My severely disabled brother has one of these. It means he doesn't need to rely so much on his careers for personal care. It's a great bit of kit as it brought him so much dignity. My brother and I laughed so much as we heard my wife from the other end of the house using it for the first time! She shrieked so loud! 😂

I've used them for literally decades. The first one I got bought was on a trip to California in 1992, the late summer after the riots. It caused a little bit a commotion at the airport when I was bringing it back to Massachusetts. After a couple of years somehow a local tv station found out about it and talked to us about doing a report, but they cancelled because Americans are embarrassed to talk about normal bodily functions. It's a caveman version by today's standards, no heated seat, but it does have a dryer. My newer one has a bidet function (the aim is a little different!), oscillating function (the water, not the seat!) wand self-cleaning, and a timer for the heated seat. They have been amazingly reliable. I still have the first one working in the half-bathroom, and it has worked perfectly for nearly a quarter century.

Reminds me of a toilet in the Frankfurt airport, in the Lufthansa business class lounge. It washed itself after it flushed. The seat actually changed shapes and it changed out the plastic cover around the ring. I took a video too because it was so amazing.

Toto, I have an INAX, but very similar. They are VERY common here in Japan. Mine also opens when you walk into the room, when you are done your business, and you stand up, it flushes. It is not a pressure sensor it senses your skin touching the seat.

I bought a toilet seat conversion made by the same company Toto. You just replace your old seat, hook up the water and plug it in. It is called a washlet. There are other good brands also. We love it! One of the best things I ever purchased. Great for people on septic that tend to use a lot of toilet paper. You need to use very little toilet paper, or zero if you are patient with the dryer. I stayed at a hotel last week and was so glad to get back to my Toto. (why do all hotels use such ruff TP?)

You can pick up a bidet (The water sprayer thing) that you attach to any standard toilet from amazon for ~40 dollars or so. I bought mine about 8 months ago, best bathroom purchase I've made this year.
And they're super easy to install, I was able to do it myself and I'm the furthest thing from a handyman, haha.

  • @chubbyninja842

You can get an after-market bidet attachment for your home toilet. That's what I have. WAY better than using rough dry paper on your back side. There's a heightened level of confidence you get when you know you're walking around with the cleanest hole in the room.

If you travel to the Middle East for the first time, be advised you may find only a small hose and nozzle by your toilet for cleaning up. Better places will also have paper, but NOT always! They don't understand how we can stand using only paper- I can't understand how they can stand drip-drying afterwards... : o
Of course, not to be too crass but this IS the culture that established the custom of "Dung hand, eating hand"...

Toto has been marketing those things for quite awhile now. Apparently they're quite popular (or at least desirable) in Japan.
Personally, I'm not sure why someone would want to take the most dependable appliance in their home and mess it up with electronics. At least the transition between a wooden box covering a hole in the ground to indoor plumbing made sense.

You can add these to an existing toilet. You do need an electrical outlet near the toilet but it uses the same plumbing. I got mine for $250 but it was a store demo last years model. Some of the brands are Brondell, Bio Bidet, iWash. Costco sells one. Google "bidet toilet seat". Cody, ya might want to put one in your wranglestar store.

I bought a bidet on amazon after spending a week in Japan. It's not the fancy one I had in my hotel, but dang it sure is nice. It installs between bowl and seat. I got the fancier one and still under $100. I'll never go back to toilet paper to clean back there. The water does a much better job.

Hello Mr Wranglerstar. I guess it is like Ma and Pa Kettle going to the big city, especially when you are used to using corn cob and newspaper out in your little house with the moon on it. OK, sorry for the cheap jab, I do know what it is like living on your land building a place to try and stay free and clear of debt, oh and I did have an outhouse. Now I live in a comfortable home debt free and one of our luxuries is the Todo toilet seat. We saw it 10 years ago in Japan, they are everywhere, even in McDs bathrooms. We liked it so much we bought one and used it till it died after 7 years of use. Tried to go without but we are hooked so bought a replacement.
There are lots of great benefits that I won’t go into since it could offend but some of the benefits - save TP (trees), warm seat on cold nights, filtered air from the bowl (smell is reduced), very useful for people that have a handicap or age has removed some of their abilities, refreshing. OK enough on that topic. I would recommend to everyone to get a Todo, the cost can be an issue - the model you showed was close to $1000.
    Thank you for your videos

I have seen a toilet even more sophisticated than this one in a private person's house in Japan in the early 90's! It had so many features among which measurement of body temp. Back then I thought gadget toilets like that would soon be seen all around the world. But I thought the same of domotica when a friend started a business in it 15 years ago. But my prediction made at that time that no one would use a key anymore to enter their front door in 20 years from then will not come true. Guess I'm not much of a trend watcher. 😉

Well ...defecating and then simply wiping a few times is terribly inadequate. Frankly, that method leaves fecal matter all over your rear end. Warm soap and water does the job but that's never taught in American culture oddly enough. If shit landed on your face would you just wipe it away with some TP or would you wash it with soap and water? Most people would wash it off. So why only wipe after doing number 2??

Reminds me of steptoe & son, they had an outside toilet and newspaper for loo roll. At Christmas they changed it to wrapping paper lol. Anyone watched it before?
