    I ‘love’ the fact the horse is so calm and focused on the approach and pops over so easily.. I’m going to try this with my horse. Thank you!

    I don't get why people are complaining about the speed of the approach. In the "rule book" it says a horse can jump 3'3 at a trot. So I personally think there is nothing wrong with this.

    I don't understand all these people saying that her horses approach is too slow. Listen to what she is saying....the horse is "flat" and sometimes "lazy". The whole point of the exercise is to improve this. Why would she use a horse who already has impulsion when showing an exercise to increase impulsion. Pointless if you ask me. Laura Renwick is an international showjumper therefore she must be doing something right.... irritates me when people crit Olympic riders who are clearly highly experienced. When you ride in the Olympics, your opinions will then be taken into consideration!!

      Sit tall and push your heels down, horses can sense if your nervous and I know some (Cough cough mine!) will use it to their advantage. I recently had a nasty fall jumping and I broke both arms and my collar bone in 2 places, I got back on, and just walked and trotted now I'm ok with riding again. Take it slow and don't do anything out of your comfort zone.

      As she said in the footage, it does actually. He is a very experienced horse so therefor he is used to it, yes he may have made a mistake that was uncalled for at any moment, but he will complete the task more effectively and better than a 13.2hh junior jumper, just saying.✋

    • @miazicolello1
      @miazicolello1 10 лет назад +1

      Nicola Beattie well yes no young 5 year old culd do that easily but it could still do it is my point. having an experianced one is helpful but a young one still could.

    Be a passenger. Never heard that one before. Passengers don't care what is happening, riders squeeze their leg to give the horse confidence.

    • @jamie07736631
      @jamie07736631 10 лет назад +14

      I think she meant not to interfere with the horse, the riders job is to present the horse correctly to the jump but the horses job to jump when it gets there.

    • @zoe5317
      @zoe5317 10 лет назад +3

      Jamie Blanchard
      Oh! Well if I was an instructor I wouldn't explain it like that. My instructor always says "Don't be a passenger!" But thanks for explaining.

    • @jamie07736631
      @jamie07736631 10 лет назад +3

      Persephone P I agree , i always tell my clients they are the pilot not the passenger, also agree with your legs giving confidence. In this case it's an exercise for the horse to work out for it's self, with out help or interference from the rider. In my opinion the only job we ever give the horse is the actual jump, every thing else is down to us, the approach, take off, line, rhythm, but the horses job is to jump when it gets there. Having said that, alot of top riders train and ride differently and are successful, i think some times it's best to chose what advice is best for you and your horse. x

    • @tkennedy166
      @tkennedy166 6 лет назад +2

      yes and no. When riding young you're told to release bigger so you don't pop the horse in the mouth but as you gain more experience your trainer should take you down the neck to a crest release and eventually to a soft, shoulder release. Just enough rein so the horse can have his head and neck to jump. If that makes any sense lol.

    • @hannahdukeshowjumping2056
      @hannahdukeshowjumping2056 6 лет назад

      Depends on the horse really. One of my horses (one in the profile picture) needs a lot of release because he isn’t very confident but my other horse doesn’t NEED release but I do sometimes give release if they’re bigger. Horses do sometimes jump better if you leave them to it. This horse doesn’t look like it needs a lot of release

    • @Zebra-dogs
      @Zebra-dogs 9 лет назад +17

      That is the correct speed for training and especially going into bounces. Any faster and the horse may attempt to jump multiple jumps at once.
