I thought it was a fantastic interview Ray. Hamaguchi is definitely a rock star and you're right, his passion and deep knowledge of the game comes through every time he does an interview. I think what makes the most sense to me is that yes, it is a remake but I think of the Remake saga like Blade Runner: The Director's Cut or The Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions. It's the ultimate and final version of what the developers' intent in telling this story.
Nobody ever mentions this But i really hope Zack's parents and Zack get a nice moment together in Rebirth becauae his parents were so worried and missed him in OG7 I think it would be nice to see them embrace
This is what it's all about, Ray! Hell yeah! At this point where we all are and what has been confirmed, this is definitely a retelling. Officially this is a remake and not a sequel. I actually like it this way because it allows the staff to set the grounds for what ever they want to do, while at the same time some players can theorize through the roof. Regardless of what the staff members say, to me it does feel like there is at least some grand lore connection to this full universe. But that's the magic of theory, personal interpretation. Maybe when I want it to be one story I can connect it, when I don't want that, I can say they are separate stories. Whether we're wrong or right, it's all really fun. I look forward to seeing all the different theories that come out with this whole story over the years. What ever surprises we get, or what ever does or doesn't happen in this game, how can anyone not have fun with this masterpiece? As always rock on!

It's 100% a sequel. He couldn't answer the question about the multiverse and then confirmed that crisis core is a separate world. The flashbacks they all had in Remake including ones from Advent children proved this along with Aerith knowing exactly what is going on.

I can't believe he actually came out with the "Revengeance" subtitle pitch for the third game lmao. In regards to the save data transfer, i think they are just talking about the couple summons you get in Rebirth for having completed save files for Remake and the intermission DLC My first Final Fantasy that I actually owned and played through all the way was Final Fantasy VII. I was introduced to the series via a friend who had the recently released FF XII as well as Advent Children. So no doubt FF would become my favorite. The second one I played all the way through was Final Fantasy XIII. It still holds fond memories in my heart, but I've had a hard time giving it another go, almost 15 years later.
Spot on take Ray! Most definitely remaking/reimagining the game. A FF7 made in modern times with concepts/lore that didn't exist at the creation of OG. They're picking, choosing, and tweaking elements from the compilation and making a cohesive story within the OG's framework.....but it's not part of the compilation. It is its own continuity of FF7. As you said, simply remaking FF7

that's not a "conventional" remake though... if such a thing exists... adding stuff and changing the order of events has so much more impact that I don't think you can call it the same story, just because the names are the same... Remake - is making the same thing again but better.... but if you have Zack live and meet Cloud again, Clouds arc isn't the same. as it stands in the remake - Clouds PAST is still what OG was so he's the same character but the Cloud that Zack carries won't be Cloud from FF7 if he wakes up. much like how Luke in the sequel trilogy acted like Jake skywalker.... Mind you, I am looking forward to this new trilogy - andI understand that they are making the impacts and events carry out for the players as they did for players in 97 for OG - by making changes. but that's at best a Spiritual remake and not an actual remake as they've been done in the industry.

I saw a report on editing videos where they ask one question and block answer to that but ask a different question, take that answer and replace the cut one with it. Really shady stuff. Crisis Core showed that a guy built the bar in Sector 7 and planned to sell it off, even hire a girl with long legs, wink-wink. Tho if it DOES become a chain, they best have an explanation. Maybe word spread about the bar's popularity and others tried to cash in. VII was my first Final Fantasy game, it introduce me to the series. I went to visit my dad and he was in the middle of escaping Shinra H.Q. After beating Hojo's Sample/Specimen H0512, he had to go to the 66th Floor elevator on the but he instead tried backtracking the way he came up from the lobby. Shinra guards in the surveillance room on the 60th Floor where he had to sneak past blocked him. I was watching him and I was just hooked. I made the mistake of insisting we get FF8 because I thought the sequel was set in the same world. Boy, was I surprised. I enjoyed 8 but I still preferred 7. That's why I missed out on 9. I gave X a chance because it was the first with actual voice-over and I got hooked. It was basically the same yet opposite of 7. I played X-2 and while it was fun it's drastically different from X. That's why my top 3 FF games, (excluding sequels, spin-offs and remakes) are #1: FF7, #2: FFX and #3: FF8. They're the only 3 titles I've played.
I have so much to say about FF7R trilogy - but the most important thing is - it's an ADAPTATION not a "remake". in order to remake it in modern game terms there are things lost in translation. multiple entries etc. so the adaptation is switching up scenes to keep each entry thematically consistent and coherent. such as - starting Rebirth with the nibelheim flashback there needs to be a resolve for it... but if they indeed only go to ancient city - they can't resolve it in any fashion along the lines of the original. they can't resolve Clouds ENTIRE identity arc and the other coherent spot to end on in terms of that storythread is Clouds despair and giving up to sephiroth, leaving the party.. but that's an hour later than ancient city at north crater.... so wtf are they doing? they're not recreating nor remaking it - they're ADAPTING FF7 OG into a modern game trilogy and as such things are going to be lost and added. just how LOTR trilogy on films lost things to the books, the performances and CG added a lot to the experience as well. it's going to be interesting to see if they can still do, especially Clouds identity, justice thorugh this adaptation.... right now, I'm worried but hopeful.... because what they are clearly doing is changing up Sephiroth ... and his influence on Cloud... maybe Nibelheim after cosmo canyon is a much bigger deal in Rebirth than original - maybe Gongaga is so much more and not skippable first way through...
