    Fantastic! Finally someone that gives good information on how to. I looked forever. I don’t know why your channel was WAY at the bottom, it should be at top!!! Thanks you!!! I’m trying to join 2 separate car parts together to make one. One is a 1987 mustang mirror to a 2014 mustang mirror. Need the mount from the 87 and the mirror assembly from the 14. Should I reinforce it somehow with metal? Maybe rods? Or? I doubt you’ll see this comment since the video is 9 years old. But it’s worth a shot.

    learned from this video, wanted to say I appreciated it, working on a small project. couldnt find this video for a little, dont know whats going on with youtube, but tried to reference this vid for other people. this 14 minute vid has taught me more about glassing then ive learned from anyone in the 12+ years ive been playing with it. gonna take on a project (other than the kick panels im making) in the near future and will be applying the stuff ive learned!

    Great skills my friend! You can definitely tell on camera which is the best...
    Question for you
    I have to repair some damage to a truck hood. No holes, just many cracks. Im going to line everthing back up, and grind down the areas around the cracks, maybe 3"-5" on either side of the cracks. Would you recommend i use the chopped mat, or the mesh?
    Im leaning towards the mat, but would appreciate your input!
    Also, how many layers? Obviously im going to do both sides of the hood, but the top side will be finished in filler, primer, then painted.
    Thank you kindly!

    I was wondering if you could offer me some advice please.
    I am a novice and am looking to make a rear parcel shelf for a Lancia Delta HF.

    It will need to be about 5mm thick when finished.

    Thanks a ton for making these videos. I learned a ton from these and the resin quality ones, as I've been recommended all sorts of ways that just didn't make sense.
    I was wondering, what would be the best way to retain the detail when glassing a six foot tall foam column with grooves spiraling along to the top? The grooves are wide, but I don't want to lose that detail with poor application.
    Should I focus on sections and really press in the grooves after spreading the resin?

I thinking of making the initial construction out of cardboard (decent weight)..anysuggestions especially on maintaining 2 ply around curves etc as i was originally thinking of laying shreds? what would i use on top of the cardboard first or could i go directly with resin then fibre glass? kind regards & many thanks in advance

    Hey Glasser, I just started watching your series tonight and I just wanted to say that I think these videos are awesome. Thank you for showing us how it's done!I have a question though. In one of your other videos (Making Shapes1-11:34) when you are laying cloth you use some torn or shredded strips on the surface. What is the difference when doing that compared to the bad ply example here, is it just that it's the mould and not a final part so you want it nice and heavy duty or another reason?

    Cameo was great!! SO are you basically saying that you should use as little resin to soak through the Glass? I have always been interested in Fiberglass, but have never done it...
    Along those lines I want to know how to mold something out of foam, then use it to make a mold that I can create fiberglass parts from.... Do you have a video yet that details that? I have gone through your channel but didn't see anything..

He also sells rolls of glass on ebay

  • @kalaiten
    @kalaiten 10 лет назад

    Since I only have so much time before the resin hardens in the cup, should I focus on smaller sections and sand down the overlapping edges later on?
    Also, I want to retain the really crisp grooves and sharp lines of the piece, so should I lay down a mat of glass, brush the resin on, and then work quickly to smooth out the crevices to make sure they don't lose their depth and crisp lines if the mat hardens flat before I can really work in the details. (I hope I was able to phrase that well.)

    I'm new to fiberglassing and I certainly want to do it correct. Thank you for your videos they really help. I'm also wondering about mother molds, can I use clay as a master mold or do I have to use something else less porous?

    • @GasserGlass
      @GasserGlass 10 лет назад

      Less porous is the best chance to use for the PLUG or The BUCK .... You can use clay but it has to be smoothed and waxed and PVA'ed before a fiberglass mold can be made from it.

    Another informative video, getting a list of supplies already have a few rollers and visited fiberglass site.com, so far I have on my wishlist, 1 gallon styrene gelcoat, 5 yards of 1.5 and 2oz chopped strand mat, and some polyester resin, how does that look for a starter kit? After it hardened it looked pretty much like your good pieces. Then we laid another coat of resin, not to strenghten it but to make it smooth and to have a layer to sand flat instead of sanding in the fiberglass layers. That doesn't hurt right?

      Question for the master of fiberglass. If I layed down one to two layers of fiberglass, but then had to step away, can I add two more layers later the next day even though the first coat fully cured, or is that not recommended?

    • @GasserGlass
      @GasserGlass 9 лет назад

      As long as the resin used that has cured is NOT WAXED resin....if there is No Wax In It, then you can wait a week between layers if you like....if the resin has WAX in it, then you have to sand or grind each hard layer of fiberglass before adding more fiberglass and resin

    • @JCraftvfx
      @JCraftvfx 8 лет назад

      +GasserGlass another question for ya. Can a part be slightly bent/warped after it's hardened with a heat gun or something? I've got two separate parts I need to line up but there's a centimeter difference between them.

    • @GasserGlass
      @GasserGlass 8 лет назад

      +Jason Craft YES..... you can wait a week or even a year to lay on more fiberglass.....However, this works with only NON WAXED RESIN....... if the resin you first used has WAX in it, then you must sand the already hardened resin before adding more fiberglass......Great Question....... Some resin has wax in it, as WAX resin cures, the wax will come to the surface to coat the part so it wont remain tacky...... Cured NON waxed resin will remain tacky for days, weeks and even months, even though it fully cured......I use NON waxed resin on car and bike parts, I'm going to paint the rough side anyway

    • @GasserGlass
      @GasserGlass 10 лет назад +1

      t hammer:..... YOU DON'T...you don't use any fiberglass to make an INSIDE or Outside 90 degree bend the is not round....What you do is.....Use chopped matte fiberglass and make rip the edge to make it Fuzzy for lack of the right word...butt the fuzzy edge of the matte , butted up to the 90 degree and come from the other direction with a separate piece of Fuzzy edge matte so the the Two Fuzzy Edges MEET at the 90 degree....it will then lay down in the 90 degree edge..... Depends on what the part is clearly?!?!
    Vacuum molds are really good for doing the outer layer of Carbon Fiber but on a regular fiberglass part its better the you an open face mold.
    Vacuum bagging is LABOR intensive and set up take forever.... I can make 5 parts in the time it takes to make one bagged part.

    • @GasserGlass
      @GasserGlass 8 лет назад +1

      +cherfieldm ******* NO VARNISH at all PERIOD!!! ...... ANY kind of fiberglass can be used, I prefer Epoxy or Polyester risen for my fiberglass..... A HEAVY Woven Cloth of a few layers will also give more safety in case the engine explodes.......Varnish is semi flammable when dry....if flame hits it, it WILL go up in fire...... Fiberglass and Resin will take much much longer to cath on fire.....you can use flame retardant additives in your resin as well to keep a longer burn time.....That's what we use in Funny Car Bodies

    • @oswaldcobblepot764

    @450hp202turbo .... FIRST you must test the poly with ACETONE...Wet a rag with ACETONE and rub it on the UN-finished fiber side of the boat hull.... if it gets tacky, you can use Polyester Resin...if it does not get tacky, you must use Epoxy Resin.... Without holding it in my hand, this is the best advice I can give you.
