- 35mm Film Photography Did I Fail Again!
#filmphotography #35mm #photography
I bought an old Nikon F60 (not working) because it came with a decent 35-80mm lens. I thought I would use this lens on my working F60 and go out and vlog another 35mm film exercise.
Things naturally go wrong!

I still have my Nikon N2000 / F3-HP .
Costs about 50 cents a print , plus the cost of the film ...
At those costs it makes film photography viable- and I bet you can keep going with it too 👍📷
@@TudorSmithPhotography Teaches me to get things right the first time .
In the past I could shoot a whole roll of film just to toss all of it .
Yep I was like that through my teens and 20s when I used to shoot film.
Every time you open the door it resets the film counter. I looked at my 35mm shots from 2022, I was averaging about 10 good shots out of 36. I now have shot over 100 rolls of film in 2 years and I get my first 36 out of 36 perfect shots back last week. I still make so many mistakes, I also still look at the back of the camera after I shoot a photo then remember it's not a DSLR. Try finding a Nikon fm3a or Pentax KX both are fully manual cameras and you learn about setting the exposure triangle fast. A half frame camera is another idea for you to try, you get 72 shots from a roll of 36
Ah so that was the issue eh? Because I don’t do film that often I’m out of practice with the camera. I inadvertently opened the door 3 times before my shoot so I must have caused the camera to have hiccups. No wonder it wound on eh?
The problem with film camera is that (using it) costs actual money.
1. Buy film (cost money)
2. Develop film (cost money)

Post processing. What fucking post processing? There is no photoshop or adobe lightroom. Denoising? What fucking denoising?
There you go. it cost more and you cannot do post processing.
Yep and that’s why I don’t shoot film that often.
Are you sure that there is no post processing? Every lab can scan the negatives at high resolution or you can do it at home if you got a dslr. Then, you got a raw file that can be edited in photoshop and lightroom very easy and relatively extensive. Or, even in the darkroom, those images from film can be ‘edited’ before they are printed. Yeah, everything costs money but at end, you’ll have some prints in your hand in reflect with digital/phone photos that stay on local storage for ever
Excellent photos... I was very impressed by the colour of the digital prints? I think the colour on film is better than untouched digital ones.
Thanks for something different....
Thank you Mark!
I love the video and your explanations- let’s hope you get thousands of subscribers.
Unfortunately I’m digital only but do slow down and take my time. I’m mainly a street and people photographer.
I loved the photo of the Art Deco pier
Thank you. 1000's of subscribers. That would be nice 🙏 I must admit I'm not really into film but it really does make you slow down and think. It's often too easy to easy to just take quick snaps. Maybe I'll do a similar exercise using digital but really take my time in composing the images. The results may surprise me!
It definitely wasn't a fail. Some of your pictures I would say are right up there with some of your best. And the saturated colours of the Kodak gold really worked with the sunset and moody sky. I'm sorry I missed out meeting up. Typical that I was on a night shoot.
I hope you do keep up the film photography every once in a while. I know it can be annoying at times, like the 12 shot problem you had. But sometimes it makes it more interesting than just firing off 100 shots on a digital camera.
Did you see what I mean about sunsets this way? Folkestone and Dover are for sunrise, and Herne bay/Whitstable are for sunsets.
Keep up the good work Mr Smith 👍🏻😁
Yeah that sun was amazing. When I was videoing myself I was bathed in red!!!
I fancy another shoot with film but with black and white. Might be urban or street photography though. Let’s meet up soon and do it 👍
I have one of my first cameras, a Zenith, under the bed in its case. Would I get it out and use it? No, I like modern cameras. I may do a video on it as I've still got all the old pictures. Thanks for sharing your fun with a film camera; you got some great pictures.
I’ve seen videos of people who only shoot film. There are others who mix and match (maybe to keep their hand in?) and yet others who only shoot digital. I must admit I think I’ll only use film if either specifically asked to or to accept a challenge or something. Bob Dylan sang that Times are a changing. I’m pretty sure time are changed!!!
my film camera hasnt taken a photo since 1987, i do get it out the bag every now and then to work it without film, i do have 2 kodak 200's in the bag which are 5 years old, this was when i was going to use it but never did, maybe this was the inspiration i needed :)
Nice to see you still have the old kit. Perhaps it’s time to give it a spin 👍📷
You mast be very new to photography?? you not that young ypu mast know what a film camera is !! One more thing what is the oint of shooting film if you not printing it on paper ??
No, yes and I agree.
Film is great, is why I shoot it so much, it makes you think about composition and a tip for manual focus is pop aperture wide open ie f2 f3.5 whatever lens allows, then do your focus and then adjust aperture back to what you need for the photo use f8 F16.
Yeah you’re a good advocate for film photography Jack! 👍📷
A camera like the Nikon F60 keeps the aperture wide open until the shutter release is pressed. This applies to almost every AF camera and lens pairing.
Not a fail at all in my eyes , they were all great shots and where you were was very scenic ,hope you managed to fix the film counter on the camera 📷😀
Thanks Vicky. You can’t go far wrong taking pictures by the sea - sometimes 🤣
Apparently opening the door (as I did) resets the counter.
Glad you found out the problem
Great shots caught on film. 👌🏻
I think I ought to go up into the loft and dig out my Canon A1 and lenses, not been used for a few years. Shocking admission 😭
Will you though? Take the old camera down? It might be worth a go eh?
@@TudorSmithPhotography Whoa you've set me a challenge, I'm gonna have to do it now 🤣📷
I've always liked 35mm prints. I'm old school. Nice photos.
I must admit I was pleased with the results and having a tangible product is somehow quite pleasing 👍📷
Great shots 👍
Many thanks!
And you picked that camera up for £18.00?
I did. It didn’t come with a lens though. See one of my previous videos.

@@TudorSmithPhotography yeah, you bought the lens with other camera that had a fault. Still £43 for a camera like that. I must have a peek on eBay. I like taking photographs, but don't think my Kodak Easyshare or Motorola phone are the best quality. But this shows what can be bought and for not much money.
It’s definitely taking a look on eBay. Some folk sell cameras as a job lot too!
I actually felt entertained and educated at the same time Tudor! Loved some of the photo's with sun light, reflections and the compositions. you just made me give you a round of applause for such a good exercise in photography film. Thought composition and position seem the key elements whether film or digital.... Loved it thank you.
Thanks Dave. I’ll take my bow now 🤣 Being restricted to the number of exposure available really makes one think before clicking 👍
