The pandemic stopped me in my tracks. I was headed to 6 months in Eastern Europe in 2020-did not happen. My gypsy spirit feels like it is on death row. I am trying to get motivated in spite of how horrendous airport protocals were and now, during this relentless pandemic I have totally avoided airports, but my spirit is paying a high price for this entrapment. Just got back from a month in Kenya and Africa. Truer words were never spoken. Airports and the process absolutely are anxiety inducing! We tried to leave from Los Angeles airport but my EVisa was declined though we had all the paper/digital pass cleared in hand….didn’t frickin’ matter…DECLINED! Missed flight…out money…booked safari waiting 10 thousand miles away. Had to book new flight and safari guide had to bribe someone in Nairobi to fix it. New expensive COVID tests, etc…, etc….transfers, delayed flights, running from terminal to terminal, hurry up and wait. Drew I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND your anxiousness. Takes a certain kind of unique bullheadedness to accomplish what you do. Do you ever find joy in the puzzle solving part of the journey? Keep the videos coming!

I absolutely hate airports as well especially during short transfers from one flight to another. The bigger the airport, the worse if you ask me (Heathrow I am looking at you). Drew! Never be afraid to share yourself……on every level! This clip gives me a better understanding of all you go through on EVERY level to produce your content. I was in the travel industry for about 40 years and traveled extensively for business. It takes its toll. For me, the challenge is how severely claustrophobic I am. Even though I was fortunate to mostly fly first class, I had to pretty much talk to myself so I could chill out. Not afraid of flying at all….love flying…..not being able to get out at will was/is, my bag. At 66 years old now, iv3 surrendered my wings and will no longer fly.

So embrace yourself and I will you good luck for all your future endeavors. I look forward to your videos.

Hi Drew, as an Aviation Enthusiast, the best part when I travel is Airports and flying because I can just go stand by the airside and photograph planes. But the terrible parts are the delays, immigrations, questioning, and the most terrible of all, is the airport security checks. They’re so stringent and will confront you if you have multiple camera gears( as it is not allowed everywhere) and when you carry packaged food and drinks, as well. But other than that, I do love most airports, especially the huge International hubs and I don’t fear them

I completely understand your anxiety. I seem to get pulled over in security every time I go, for the most random reasons. Once for my binder, three times for a box of cards against humanity, once for a tin thing of hot coco I had. Total nightmare every time, I always dread having to go through security.

Totally agree with you man, i hate airports! Love traveling but the airport side of things does my head in! The check in's, the delays, the security checks, emptying out bags with laptop, camera, drone, batteries etc then all onto separate trays keeping an eye on my gear going through and not being mishandled or taken by someone. Hate airports!

Drew, I love your films and thank you for the efforts you've made to produce them, educate and entertain.
You spoke of your severe anxiety at the beginning of this film. Please, please, please do something to raise awareness of another way in which severe anxiety can affect us.
I attempted suicide almost a year ago, Drew. That was in September 2020, when I took a massive overdose of opioid painkillers. I was unconscious for 18 hours before spending 3 nights in hospital being treated for kidney damage and pneumonia. Suicidal thoughts have persisted in my mind since that time in a cruel, circular fashion. I am plagued by severe anxiety and the physical pains which go with it and yet I am afforded little in the way of help and support to provide respite.
I know that many others face the same as I do. Life is so cruel for me in that I spend so much time sat or laying down with little energy or will to even write and email to an old friend to ask them to spare me a thought.
Thank you for the opportunity to write a few words here. Best wishes to you on your adventures, Drew. Please consider sparing me a thought as I continue to battle away.
    Michael

I love airports personally but everything you are saying is completely relatable for people who fly a lot. And recently in Cairo the airport was hectic but due to safety reasons. Other than small fears in flying, experiencing the world and other cultures is an amazing experience and for some only a once in a lifetime chance. But I love this channel for opening up about the inside of other countries and not just what the news says about them. You got this👍

Drew! Love your videos!! Thank you so much for sharing your anxiety concerning airports. As someone that too enjoys traveling, I too really despise airports. I’ve had severe anxiety over my airport travels due to the pressure, anticipation, and security checks there. Before traveling, I always get anxiety with the TSA especially with the huge security fear. It’s even gotten extreme with the updated security checks with facial recognition cameras as it’s definitely giving me 1984 vibes. It’s also kinda like the Bourne Trilogy with the amount of surveillance enhanced among people. It’s caused me to get panic attacks which would then alert others there. It’s so frustrating dealing with airport anxiety and thank you for sharing this. Wishing you well Drew 🙌
