Agamator, you truly are a chess historian, filling a void in the chess community. Your videos aren’t only entertaining, but full of bits and pieces of information that have been forgotten over time, while at the same time providing excellent analysis! You have the best chess channel on RUclips!
So instead of talking about how Capablanca didn’t care for opening theory, you used a quote about how he didn’t care for opening theory. Very cheeky, Agad.
After such an hard day at work and an horrible hour waiting for the bus to get home while it is so cold and rainy, it sure feels good to turn on RUclips and the first video in the main page is this one. Thank you, agadmator.
Mieses was there as a journalist. A photograph exists where he signed under his name. The German paper that shows your picture says, that they made mistakes in identifying the players.

This game sort of opened my eyes to the fact that Capablanca is also human. He played a couple inaccuracies in this game that could've lead to a difficult game for him. Up until this point in the other games he's played it's felt like he was a human engine.
@Saulius Savelis a simpleton nobody calling capablanca weak lol good joke . fyi even modern computers that have analyzed capablancas games consider him among the strongest of all time. look it up buffoon
@@arnoldo8642 Exactly. Some people Like Saulius Savelis, should engage their brain before commenting about chess geniuses. No one suggests that Capablanca was a perfect chess player but as you pointed out, engine analysis supports the belief that he was one of the best ever, if not the best. Weak would be the very last adjective I would use to describe Capablanca.
great story! it's amazing that so many pieces could be traded just to win a pawn. your insights into the games and alternate lines are just fantastic as always.

Question on the position after b4 at 9:21: what about the exchange sacrifice on a3? After Bxa3 and Rxa3 still two white pawns on b4 and e3 are hanging. I continued to play the position on the board and felt black is clearly better and likely winning. What does „the engine“ say? I do not have one...

The IA chess entities lacks of this issue. It's one of the advantages above engines, generally speaking.
@@RolfyOlbap I looked at that study... def. shows black has a checkmate even if the best moves are played. The PGN resulting in a draw doesn't play the best moves.
@@alienwarex51i3 That's not true. If Black doesn't take the bishop on move one(kxa4), black will even loose. Stockfish shows that too. On the other hand if black goes kb5, white can go for the big fortress. White just has to check the king with his pawns. On the final postion white is down two rocks and two bishops, but the pawns make a fortress.
in the lasker schlechter match the conditions where insanely in laskers favor, due to schlechters kindness. schlechter had to lead by 2 points to win the match, and even if he won lasker would still be worldchampion until schlechter would win a rematch. so in the 10th match with a score of 5:4 for lasker, schlechter had to go for a win if he wanted to even draw the match. Mieses hosted the tournament from San sebastian in 1911, but didnt participate. Schlechter did participate and took 6th place. he was know as the draw-king. i got this from a book i am currently reading, "the grandmasters of chess" from 1974.
Maybe I'm wrong but I assume that black can play pawn B6 for C5 next to try for double attacks on E3 (Bishop & Rook) and later on A3 (Bishop & B5 pawn or even other Rook from B8). Or not moving the Rook and try to push pawn to D4 (triple attack on E3).

looks like they took one person out from the photograph 2 videos ago, which this drawing seems to be modeled after, and moved marshall down from the railing into the bottom left corner.
For what i've read, schlechter and lasker agreed that for the challenger to become world champiom in their match, he would need a two-point margin. That is why he had to take risks in their last game.
Hey is there a message board where I could post a game I had and this guy talked trash and I took him on a king walk before he eventually resigned and I don't know who to share it with
Is there no chance to open up the queen side with rook c8, b6, c5? I might have kept going but of course I am no gentleman and no match for Capablanca or anyone of repute. Thank you as always for the content. If my idea to continue the game in terrible (as I only have terrible ideas) please let me know why.Cheers
0:40 schlechter needed win against lasker because if the final score was 5:5 or even 4,5:5,5 lasker would remain his champion's title.before the last match score was 5:4 in favor of schlechter and he had to win that game.if game was drawn, the final score would be 5,5:4,5 in favor of schlechter but champion would be still lasker.i think that was very unfair 😐
I am not sure that is correct. Lasker sent Capa 17 conditions for a match when Capa challenged him. They included a drawn match if the score was 1-0, 2-1 or 3-2. The match was also limited to 30 games. Lasker and Schlechter were supposed to play 30 games, but only raised the money for 10. So, one possibility overlooked is Schlechter had to win by 2 to become champion outright. If he won by one point, he won the title but would have to play another 30 game match (Lasker could raise the money as people would bet on him to win), so Schlechter went for the win in game 10 to win the title outright, got a winning position, and lost.
I cannot believe how antipositional Capablanca played in this game. First that Qxb6 move giving black the semi open a-file and then that f4 move giving up the e4 sqauare which was easily accessible to black's knight.
Heart of a champion. Schlechter always want a fair figth. Mby he felt it was a fluke or to easy win against lasker (not that it was) and felt like he wants a game to be proud of and mby he wanted to earn it in the best way.
What is my knowledge about the Schlechter-Lasker Worldchampionship is that the agreement was yes, he needed only one more win to be world champion, but in case of only 1 win more the price-money would have been split. In any other case the winner takes all. So Schlechter being rather poor tried to take the whole price.
