In GT, Vegeta has clearly sobered up from his past. His rivalry with Goku has turned into more of a friendly competitive spirit than their former animosity for each other, and he’s more of a family man than he was even at the end of the Boo arc. Everything about his look, his character, and his motives have that growth plastered all over them, and to me, this made him earn Super Saiyan 4, as his first and foremost intention for it, beyond surpassing Goku, was defeating the Evil Dragons to save the Earth. His past villainy and antiheroics are so far behind him that when he looked back on his fight with Goku while under Babidi’s spell, he doesn’t even remember if he really meant it or not. That’s how little it matters to him now; that’s how little it defines who he is now. In Super, Vegeta regresses back to his gruff, cranky exterior from the original series. He’s a family man, yeah, but he’s still treating Earth activities as if they’re some annoying thing he has to adapt to, despite having lived on Earth for over a decade by Super. I’m not saying he needs to be as developed four years after Boo as his GT counterpart was 15 years after, but it-along with still wearing his old Saiyan armor-still feels like he’s stuck in the past as a character, especially with how he’s written in material like DBZ Kakarot DLC 6. Additionally, his rivalry with Goku still has that animosity without having really grown beyond the fact they’re allies now, and now that he’s just an unambiguous heroic character instead of the borderline villain he was in the Freeza and Cell arcs or the antihero he was in the Boo arc, it just feels like a generic anime rivalry. Vegeta is the poster boy of the franchise. In GT, he represents that series’ reluctant willingness to move forward, and in Super, he represents that series’ intent on simply being nothing but reheated Z.
In GT the whole reason he wants to become a Super Saiyan 4 is literally because he realizes how far behind Goku he was and became jealous of that fact. This proves my argument that an essential core aspect of Vegeta's character has always been associated with Goku. He's the one that essentially starts Vegeta on the path of being a better person. Part of that being their rivalry and I don't think him completely giving that up does his character any justice. I respect GT for at least trying to make his character more than just "Goku's Rival" but it falls flat when you realize it doesn't give him much to do. In Super he respects Goku and his work ethics all while maintaining his pride as a saiyan and even claims he needs him to help push past his limits and evolve his own way both as a fighter and a person. If you take that away you lose the whole reason why vegeta was so compelling in the first place. GT realized this late in the show and that's why they give him the whole inner conflict dilemma with him wanting to be a Super Saiyan 4 with Bulma. Because his rivalry with Goku makes him a better character by extension.
I'm rectify and prove you wrong on the super side of things. He hasn't regressed one bit. He's grown far more. He's grumpy. That's just how he is. Even in GT while being more chill, he's still his grumpy, hard-exterior self. He wears the armor as not only his pride as a saiyan but him never forgetting that. He literally has a dialouge with beerus where beerus states that Vegeta is trapped in the past (which is the start of him learning about ultra ego). In the manga, he literally wears clothes similar to his end of z counterpart almost all the time where there isn't fighting. He plays video games (despite being bad and rages at them), he watches TV, he goes out with bulma to eat, he does earthly things when there isn't fighting. In the anime (yes ik it's filler), he literally wears a suit and shows up for his wife's award ceremony. His rivalry with Goku is much less like they're enemies and more like they're actually rivals. You don't have to be friendly all the time with a rival. Look at Asta and Yuno who has the best and most healthy rivalry. They help out each other and stand up for each other, but they know when to be rivals. The same goes for super goku and vegeta. The speak like friends on beerus' planet all the time. There is no animosity. Especially during the granolah arc where he rejects Goku's help bc they're usually always fighting to protect someone. He's shown that he's redeemed (despite he himself feeling like he isn't) and can be a good person at heart. Super vegeta has been on a trajectory that he has been more intricate and developed than he's ever been before which includes GT.
I will never understand why people like GT Vegeta more than super Vegeta cuz of him being less and less of a Saiyan, when that's literally his entire character...... a prideful Saiyan, I honestly don't understand the "development" of making Vegeta a earthling, that's not development that's butcherment, Vegeta did not need to be developed into some chill earthling, the only thing he needed working on was his mentality with goku, not a complete overhaul of his entire character or what's in his blood, the fact that Goku in GT acts more Saiyan than Vegeta says enough about how badly they did Vegeta
@KeyReviewsOfficial Anime vegeta and manga vegeta are very different Same as manga goku and anime goku on dbs, trust me read them, manga goku is so much better
I see a lot of people make the same argument that Super's Vegeta "re-ignites" his need for a rivalry with Goku but I disagree. He even says it himself in the return of Frieza, he states that he needs Goku to help push himself to become stronger. At no point in Super, the manga or the anime does Vegeta return to a Z style rivalry where he desperately needs to be the best to validate himself. This culminates in a season best for him in the ToP in the anime where he quits trying to follow Goku and blazes his own trail beginning his own path to power. Something made even more apparent in the manga as you mentioned.
Dbs is better. While GT vegeta became very laidback, He didn’t do enough in GT for him to be a better character imo, hes just a chill guy. Dbs vegeta just wants to be the best version of himself in his own way. People say he’s still chasing Goku, but vegeta has shown multiple times his rivalry with Goku is for personal development, not competition. I think people have this altered view of GT vegeta being more developed, but I think people feel this way because he had more laidback moments than fights in GT because he’s barely there. Dbs vegeta has just as many if not more moments showing how developed he is now, but he’s actually useful to the plot. His reaction to Nappa in GT is just like his reaction to Paragus and broly in DBS. I also think the version of GT people watched plays a role, as that line about being good isn’t in the JP version.
People keep associating GT Vegetas chillness as character development, but I just don't see it, the arrogance the attitude the Saiyan pride that's what made Vegeta who he was and all of them are just completely missing from GT I don't call that development. The only "development" Vegeta needed was for him to not be toxic about surpassing Goku, and super does a great job of this even having Vegeta admit that competing with Goku makes him a better person and fighter, and that he NEEDS goku in his life, that's a STRONG contrast from his mentality from mid z. People also think just because Vegeta admitted that Goku was better than him, that would automatically mean Vegeta would stop trying to surprise him, when Vegeta never said that he would stop. All that changed was Vegeta's mentality about doing it and Vegeta now respect for Goku instead of blind hatred, in super It's more of a friendly competition for small bragging rights/bettering each other than surpassing goku out of hatred because he feels it's not right for Goku to be stronger than him based off of a irrelevant Saiyan ranking system and his status of being a prince
Vegeta in Super has much more depth, nuance, and overall motivation behind his character that leaves him with much more potential for growth. In GT he already reached that peak for his growth and as a result there's really nothing else going for him as a character. Hell GT barely does anything with him to reconfirm that fact. With that being said these are clearly 2 different Vegetas from 2 different points of time in the series. One literally fresh from Z and the other years after Z so of they'll be different but similar in alot of ways
I gotta give it to GT. A lot of your points against GT besides screen time came from the fact that a lot of Vegeta’s development ‘already happened’ during the 15 year timeskip between the Buu Saga and GT, and we see the end result rather than the process. Also, his development is much better in the Subbed version than the English dub
Personally I give it to Super. GT does have the advantage of Vegeta being on earth for much longer than Super Vegeta. That does have an effect on why he’s different from Super nor would I expect them to be the same. We have yet to reach the End of Z for Super. GT doesn’t get nearly enough screen to Vegeta so his few appearances don’t show too much of it. With Super there are sequences that could be done better, especially early on with super. However with the latter half of Super you get to see some nice moments in both the anime and the manga for Super
Yeah Vegeta literally denying to go to beerus's planet to train with Goku because he didn't want to leave bulma while she was still pregnant just speaks for itself, goku even taunted him about coming back stronger than him but Vegeta just didn't care. Vegeta taking trunks to the park like he said he would back in z is also a nice touch, went out and spent a little time with the family, although he was grumpy about it, I wouldn't expect anything else from Vegeta. People keep associating GT Vegetas chillness as character development, but I just don't see it, the arrogance the attitude the Saiyan pride that's what made Vegeta who he was and all of them are just completely missing from GT I don't call that development. @ I attribute Vegeta’s chill to the fact that the earth was peaceful in GT for 15 years. He’s had a ton of time to mellow out as nothing has really been a threat to him. Super did not have those 15 years of peace since the Buu saga so Vegeta is going to be different, plus just less time has taken place since the Buu saga anyways
GT Vegeta is so much better, Super regressed his character arc in Z and made his final speech loose meaning. GT Vegeta continues on with Vegeta accepting Goku is better while still striving to best him but without that resentment. His arc is more believable in GT while in Super its as if he completly forgot his final speech. I get they needed him to have some form of character development but undoing the sentiment behind his final speech was not it
"GT Vegeta continues on with Vegeta accepting Goku's better while still striving to best him but without the resentment" um... this is literally supers vegeta too...... Hell this sounds less like GT Vegeta, if anything gt vegeta during fights has always pretended to have things handled then gets triggered when somebody mentions gokus name💀💀💀 "his arc is more believable in GT while in super it's as if he completely forgot his speech" No???? in what way does supers Vegeta completely ignore his development from z??? just because he said Goku was better than him does it mean he was or SHOULD stop competing with him, now you're just giving meaning to something that was never EVEN said. All that changed was how Vegeta went about it, z Vegeta had a toxic mentality of surpassing Goku meanwhy supers version has him has a more healthy mentality about going about it Vegeta even says in super that he does it to improve himself because he recognizes Goku makes him a better fighter and person overall
@Tyrineal finally, something said it. I like how in GT, he's finally made a full transition to being an earthling, wearing normal clothes, spending time with his kid, he's accepted goku as #1 and is now doing his own thing, living his life, not whining about fusing with goku but being the one to suggest fusing. He might not have done much in GT, I'll still stan GT vegeta over super vegeta
Didn't vegeta ask to fuse in the super manga? I think people miss that the whining about Fusion is a joke. Like how people say Frieza fought broly for an hour. Them messing up fusion was a joke, Frieza wasn't actually fighting Broly for an hour. If you lighten up, it's easy to see that super vegeta is just a younger GT vegeta. The more super goes, the more vegeta becomes the GT version
Dude let Frieza blow up Earth. Still has that Cell Saga mindset. Super Vegeta is just a flanderized version of himself. Dude allows the guy who killed him and the majority of his species to roam freely. All of his development in the Buu Saga is basically gone. Still chasing Goku's coattails. Attempting to force ultra instinct. Forcing an evolution of blue that's not even relevant anymore. Most of all, he trains with Yardrats. I can justify training with Gods and deities, but he is literally riding Goku's coattails. I can say Moro arc did him some good, but outside of that. Super Vegeta is just early Buu Saga Vegeta before turning Majin. No clue why people act like GT Vegeta being an earthling is bad. That is literally his home, is he supposed to go around hating everything after a decade still? Anyways, GT Vegeta is in his element on Earth. The dynamic he has wirh the Son family is not ever seen in Super. Goten is akin to a nephew at this point. He's a family man as always. And the funniest thing, Baby Vegeta is pure sign of his growth. Vegeta has developed so much he can't be the villain unless he's not in control of himself. Not to mention, Baby took his body because its the strongest in the universe. The same Baby that survived an encounter with Goku. And people are straight up making false facts. Vegeta wasn't jealous of SSJ4. He was literally proud of Goku in both instances of seeing it. Now let's go over Vegeta attempting to convince Omega Shenron that he is infact going down a bad route. A route he acknowledges he went on and was swayed by none other than Goku. Super Vegeta would be too jealous to give Goku his props on anything. Lastly, Vegeta wastes no time in rushing Goku to fuse. While Goku enjoys watching the Saiyan kids fight. Vegeta wants to fuse immediately. Super Vegeta would still make fights he can win in an instant drag on just to see his opponent's full power. GT Vegeta said it best, a Saiyan with the pride of an Earthling. Or an Earthling with the pride of a Saiyan. He's in competition with Goku to be Earth's greatest hero. GT Vegeta clears in character. In a much shorter series at that.
Vegeta barely did anything in GT besides get taken over by Baby. Super wins by default because at least Vegeta got screentime. Anybody in GT not named Goku might as well not be there.
I'm definitely not a Vegeta fan, he actually annoys me most of the time, but that doesn't happen with him in GT, so I prefer that version way more. After all, he is more mature and stopped chasing Kakarotto, as he should have, after that line against Boo.
@@SCUDGANGIt was him who suggested that they move to Planet Tuffle to escape Earth’s destruction; an OLD saiyan habit for his NEW home and saving everyone’s lives. He stood his ground to fight Super 17, even if it meant his death and stated that while Goku is gone, he is the protector of Earth. This is his new home and he would give his life for it. He embraced both his saiyan side and the life he has built on earth by not only wearing Earthling clothing instead of his usual armor but also is a better father to both of his kids and going out to do normal father things. He came to Goku’s rescue when he was gonna blow himself up, knowing it wouldn’t work and didn’t work in the last arc, recommended fusion to beat Omega Shenron and put his life on the line while Goku was getting the spirit bomb ready At the end, he tells Pan to treasure Goku’s destroyed Gi which was development for not only Future Pan but also Goku Jr. Just bc he’s a co-star doesn’t mean he was better written when he still hasn’t embraced Earth as his home completely as shown by his clothing, cares about his kids but barely shows it, his respect for Goku has gone down bc they regressed him and he’s only progressed as a warrior but not as a person which the Buu saga tried to do.

I say this, on manga, vegeta was the one to ask goku to fuse with him in black arc, and how he doing and grow as a character more to show
Ahh I didn't know that. I've only read the Moro and Granolah arcs
@KeyReviewsOfficial
Anime vegeta and manga vegeta are very different
Same as manga goku and anime goku on dbs, trust me read them, manga goku is so much better
@ultrainstinctgokuhope7442 agreed there so much different

Great topic that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately, since Daima came out🤔 Amazing assessment, my guy💯

GT Vegeta was barely in it. Super made Vegeta the co-lead. Not really a contest.

Vegeta in gt didn’t have development he was just there
Ultimately Vegeta NEVER gets justice
😭😭
super vegeta way better yall tripping vegeta aint don nothing in gt
Please keep up
wym?
Please we should collab on a video
I'm definitely not a Vegeta fan, he actually annoys me most of the time, but that doesn't happen with him in GT, so I prefer that version way more. After all, he is more mature and stopped chasing Kakarotto, as he should have, after that line against Boo.
That's fair
Highly disagree.
GT did Vegeta better character development.
Vegeta didn't even do anything he was possessed by baby most of the time😂😂😂
@@SCUDGANGIt was him who suggested that they move to Planet Tuffle to escape Earth’s destruction; an OLD saiyan habit for his NEW home and saving everyone’s lives.
He came to Goku’s rescue when he was gonna blow himself up, knowing it wouldn’t work and didn’t work in the last arc, recommended fusion to beat Omega Shenron and put his life on the line while Goku was getting the spirit bomb ready
At the end, he tells Pan to treasure Goku’s destroyed Gi which was development for not only Future Pan but also Goku Jr.
