Export / Import specific graphic files, does it transfer other files for things like animation, physics, audio?
I'll check out the earlier video on Omniverse...

On the topic of Unity making a connector for Omniverse, I recommend the video 'Exploring USD: The HTML for 3D Virtual World [S42112] on the NVIDIA GTC conference website (it's not on RUclips yet, and I posted this comment earlier, but YT must forbid external links). At 21 minutes in, Unity's chief architect Natalya Tatarchuk is calling for deeper cross-platform support in USD (including in NVIDIA's implementation?), even including being able to drag-and-drop a character (and even animation curves and LODs, etc.) across platforms. So maybe there's hope. Maybe one day I will be able to bring a ZIVA character into Unreal via Omniverse.

Omg the GTC panel was so crazy

      I watched the GTC keynote...
On the one hand, I was extremely depressed about the amount of game development stuff announced (granted, GDC is going on after all).
On the other hand... DAMN NVIDIA have their fingers in a LOT of pies. Like literally everything... self driving cars, shipping logistics, cancer detecting microscopes, city management... everything.

I'm super late to this, but this is essentially a nice to have. It connects all your apps. Forget their create app for a second, the local USD server lets you connect applications for live editing from one app to another. (With some oddball behavior here and there.) That is Omniverse's primary functionality.
If you have no immediate use case as an Indie dev, then don't even worry about this, but for some indie folks like me, who use multiple pieces of software, or for people in teams, this thing is a free godsend. (Yes, NVIDIA wants you to use their GPU to run that "Create" app, but just forget about that for a moment to realize what learning USD can buy you.)
Honestly, just learning about USD outside of Omniverse is useful all its own. You can build a low poly world in Blender, with models and textures and whatnot, and then export it via USD to Unreal, modify it there for some reason and then export the level via USD to Unity for some reason.

Nvidia has a step by step dummy proof set of instructions with video for getting Omniverse up and going including the Nucleaus stuff which even though I don't think I have a Developer account I was able to setup. Also you can Host on Local Mahcine as well (say if you're working on a fork) and then host a session to share that fork with the person you're collaberating with making the Local Machine Drive (Omniverse Drive) priceless. There's so much that Nvidia have added that I did not know about until I got a Developers E-mail (I get them from seeking interest just in Omniverse) and looked into the updated videos. It's gotten a lot going. The Appp Creation has been out for a while; might have been Beta but it was available to me when I put the system on my machine. I am designing an "App" but it's a very niche use case and might get solved with an update to another one of their built in apps ...better for me because I'm at a brick wall currently. The Machinima is / has been my main focus going forward but it doesn't negate the need to create assets for these worlds. Similar to Game Dev in a LOT of ways. Cheers! Stay Healthy and Stay Sane!

  • @emo10001
    @emo10001 2 года назад +1

Been working with this (lightly) for a little bit. Audio2Face is pretty nice. Also very interested in Machinima (pronounced "mah-ki-ni-mah" btw lol...its a portmanteau of "cinema" and the latin phrase "deus ex machina" which means "god out of the machine".... ruclips.net/video/BjfOjpEczk0/видео.html ) .
Regardless...this is very cool stuff for game dev and 3d animation dev.

They're all absolutely, embarrassingly horrible, but as of this writing Unreal sucks less.
I think too many people work in games because of passion or because of the big bucks (in the case of AAA), so there's way more tolerance for warts in the tooling than we probably should have. Vendors in other areas of software tooling would be embarrassed if their products had as many issues as what we deal with - or would be competed out of the market very quickly. In recent years things are *starting* to get better but there's still a long way to go… until we hopefully have something with the performance and visuals of UE5, the package management of Unity, the build output size of Godot, and that doesn't crash in the middle of your dev session, at the bare minimum. Preferably open source.

Just starting out in development, I'm liking Unigine. Setting up a detailed object with only one texture while still giving it a normal map look was easier in Unigine than Unreal and looked far better. I also had a bug were Unreal was adding shading along the seams, making them look obvious and ugly. The object simply looked beautiful in Unigine. I've also seen a long history of Unreal adding so many features that they often went unfinished. I'm no expert, though. It's just easy for fandom of Unreal and its endless features to overpower simple common sense issues. Unigine may have a good future, but it's only beginning to be a game engine.

Ha, Scene tab, Game tab, Blender tab :D
I think youtube keeps eating my reply. Probably because of the link to the Unity package page.
Third try, no link this time. Have you tried Unity MeshSync? I haven't tried it yet but it looks interesting. Live link between modeling/animation software and Unity. There's a gif on the Unity package page that shows scrubbing the timeline in Maya, I think, and it animates in Unity. There's a plugin for Blender and several other programs as well.
Hopefully my comment will stick this time. If not, I guess I'm speaking to nothing. :P

How does NVIDIA's Omniverse compare with Unreal Engine 5 for cinematic projects? Are there any advanced Omniverse tutorials for creating cinematics with Omniverse Create? I've spent the past few days searching, and I can't find anything.
