I just did this, thanks for the how to! On mine at least, I was able to ease the braided copper wire over the nub of the relay, and thereby remove the moving contact piece without cutting the wire. Hope it works now :)
Great video. I was about to order a now soloniod until I watched this video. I had no idea you could open it. Popped it open, noticed some gunk had built up on the contacts, cleaned them up, popped it all back in. Problem solved. Thank you so much
You don't need to unsolder the braided copper relay wire. It can be slipped up over the top of the relay allowing the relay contact plate to be removed. It's a bit tight but it will just make it. I cleaned the contact with some 320 grit emery cloth and some "Deoxit" contact cleaner. Works like a champ....
Thanks dude! You helped me through a nice pain in the neck solving. Used sand paper to grind to clean. I might still order a new one though. Have a good one!
Had the same problem on vw mk4 golf. Cleaned contacts with wd40 equivalent and old toothbrush on relay nearest to end of circuit board. Works fine now. Thanks for video inspiration.
i add a new relay on wires next to 377 module. a reley with 2 position, it must shorter correctly when power is off and when coil is on. my problem was self working wipers.
Thanks for taking the time with this video, my wipers decided that it was time to pull this foolishness on my way home from work yesterday (I live in Oregon and we are also a mostly "on" position place) I'm curious why you pulled the conductor and replaced it with a new one from that transformer? Was it an open or? I'm not sure if I'm going to just pull & clean things up (I've some great contact solvent for cleaning line printer relays) or just swap it. Thanks again, Brian
Smart guy! this has just started with mine so this will be really useful to try fix it. What did you clean it with out of interest? electrical contact cleaner?
Hi there, thanks for watching. It was awkward to get in at. I just scraped away with carbon on the contact with a screwdriver. If I knew where I could actually buy that single relay separately (as opposed to buying the whole unit), I would have soldered off the old one and replaced it completely.
Hey Man, my windshield wipers on my Golf 4 TDI only work on the medium and high setting, but not on the low setting. When I turn it to low it wipes once then stops completely, medium and high settings work normally. Any guesses? Could it be the relay
Hey Dan, difficult to say. Just remember that the "relay" unit is actually an electronic circuit with two relays, transistors, capacitors.. etc so there are a number possible symptoms when it fails. To cause the problem I had, the second relay failed. And I'm not sure what happens if the first relay fails. I would do two things if it were mine. 1: check the voltage at the input pins of the wipermotor when it "stops completely" 2: take out the relay (like I did in the video) and see if the contacts on the relays look okay. The relays can be tested separately with a 12v battery. Good luck
JonathanAnon Thanks, I‘ll do that and order a new one off eBay if its faulty. Theyre like 20 bucks and considering the fact that the medium and high settings work perfectly, Im pretty sure its not the motor. Thanks!
Hey Hugo, I wanted to prove that it WAS the relay, before replacing switches or other bits. And then I found out that it was an easy fix, I just fixed it. It's still working today. And I live in Ireland, so the relay in is the ON position for most of the year anyway .. :-)

yes that worked for me, no need to resolder

You don’t have to remove any plastics. Just stick your head down to the pedals and you’ll see it
Right!
You're missing a panel if this is the case.
Hi. Nice video. I have a lupo 2000 and my back wiper is doesn't stop. Similar problem as yours. Do you think it can be the same relay? Thanks
Is the relay in 2011 Jetta in the same area and numbered the same? Cool vid. Wish I knew that much about cars
Thank you for saving me money ,great video .
Does mk5 rabbit use the same fuse for the wiper?
pls where is the location for realy rear wiper vw golf 5 and the front wiper

Vital Computing I used your trick but just ordered a relay off eBay for £4 and swapped it. Works fine again!
Nice vid but it would hav been nice if u could hav pointed at exactly what u wz explaining thnx
dude.. you just saved me €80. :)
I have the same problem, but my wipermotor is also really really slow and it laggs/get stuck on the window, should I try this?
Thanks your 👍
thanks I will have to do mine
For me did not work. Whipers will not stop even if i repeared the burned relay contact. Why?
Did you clean the contacts?
its burn. non correct circuit when relay is off. you must solder a new relay. example on cables

Just thinking Dan, how does the wiper switch feel. Maybe try moving that around in the low position. A bad wiper switch could cause the same fault.
Why not just replace the relay? Are they expensive?

i use 12v relay on wires next to 377 module. must be 2 position relay (short when on and off). i had bad circuit when relay off and wipers work self.
