Because in the United States May 5 is celebrated more than in Mexico, because after Mexico won the battle of Puebla, the French dismissed General Lorenzes, planned a counterattack with generals who were trained with Napoleon and put a beating and entered Mexico City leaving Juarez in dismay for the United States, but with the resistance in Mexico the union armies finally defeated the Confederates without the help of the French who wanted the reestablishment of slavery, and were able to win The civil war is why in the US it is celebrated more than in Mexico on May 5

4:10 you are right that st Patrick’s day is more “celebrated” (party wise) in the US than Ireland but interesting enough….over the past couple decades it’s becoming very celebrated (party-wise) in Ireland too. It is likely the result of the popularity of st Patrick’s day partying in the US reaching Ireland through the ever increasing sharing of cultures online and through travel.
This happens all the time. Korean BBQ ribs are actually from California made by Korean immigrants but is now somewhat popular in South Korea as “LA Ribs”.
Or how about this one…corn dogs are from the US, introduced to South Korea, modified by Koreans then reintroduced to the US as Korean corn dogs which are a growing and popular food in the US.

5 de Mayo is celebrated so much in the US because it's an acceptable holiday for the Mexicans in the US, having some historical signifcance, but not too important to be weird to celebrate, for instance celebrating another country's indepedence day would be weird.

  • @DavidCoxDallas

little known fact which tells why this battle is important to US. the extra trouble France faced in Mexico also put a damper on Napoleon 3's plans to arm Confederate States in their war of independence from USA.
with Americans abject historical illiteracy, this isn't why cinco de mayo is celebrated - just why its significant to US history.

@@jesusm2159 That's true in Spanish, but not in English. In English those are called the Americas.

Saludos. Feliz cinco de mayo!
