I think I was extremely lucky as a kid, there was a guy at our local gw that used to give me and my younger brother old terrain pieces that they either were going to be got rid of or would just be put out back for storage
Thanks for sharing my Warcry board ! I found in the street of Paris this GW board, certainly melted by sun, and decided to save it (and 'cause it was so astonishing to find this!!). Really happy with your comments! Thanks a lot!
I'm so pleased you took my warped diorama into consideration for your video. Thank you so very very much for taking the time to give your expert advice on fixing it (and possible future projects using foam). It is very well appreciated. ❤
I am looking forward to your small scale wargaming. I have started the process of doing the same thing. Converted everything from inch to CM from the board to the units and printed out 2 6k one page rule armies and printed out the board this month. Now to paint everything =) nice thing is the board if fully modular using hexes so I am using your hang it on the wall behind a poster idea. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the advice! Really cool hearing your thoughts on it. You are absolutely bang on and in hindsight I should have used them for some flatter boards to get rid of the creasing! But we live and learn!
For lava flows of a similar effect use a syringe, draw up plaster of paris and squirt it on. I found if you let it sit for a bit it thickens up if you need.
Luke, I've been watching you for a few years now and you (plus Black Magic Craft) have advised my terrain builds. Made a board a few years back which I'm proud of and I can't seem to get rid of even though it's never been used and needs some work. More important, I have seen your skill and knowledge grow over the years but you still keep it real and understand that people are on a budget. Please can you do these review videos as a regular thing,it helps us both with your advice and the exposure. Cheers mate, hope to see you at a Games Con sometime in the future.
3 levels of board, that would make a great video. You do the expert one, find someone with a little experience and a total newbie to do the other two. You can then get us to vote on the best.
Such a good video Luke, me and the missus laughed so hard..."Gelatinous Cube".I have another one to try soon but waiting till I can be bothered to pay or "make" my own pressure pot, though seeing how well my Dystopian City turned out I am proberly safer to just buy one.🤣 Really want to see the unedited version of this vid👍🏻
For the distopian resin one, there's the possibility that it can be partially saved with some high gloss polyeurethane brushed over it. Some of that looks like it might be on the sides of it. This also reminds me of back when TerranScapes used to do it...a rather fun thing for learning a lot of random things or getting ideas when it's not one of your own pieces and if it is, can give some ways to improve or fix things
The big take away for me was if you are doing multiple pours to color part A of the mix so the color is consistent through out the pour! :D Thanks for sharing! Its always fun to see what everyone is building out there
As you might expect, with McFarlane putting out 1:12 40K figures and Joy Toy 1:18 scale ones, people are starting to play Kill Teams with those. Any specific advise aimed to those brave souls?
You mentioned researching cosplay for a flexible gaming board. I had an idea years ago for a material that you could consider (I'm not professional so the cost was not feasible). Use silicone to make a mold of an already made table, spray or pour creature cast rubber, embed a fabric mesh for strength, and when it sets you'll have a durable neoprene rubber table. It's paintable with acrylic paints.
Creature Cast is not too expensive for the sizes they offer, but the silicone is what's pricey. Another benefit too is the mold is reusable for mass production.
The warping even happens with wood or plywood. Especially the cheap wide planks made from a few 1x2s edge glued. The wood expands and contracts at different rates and the glue bond breaks. Best to immediately coat it with varnish or what ever. I have yet to figure out a way to fix twisted plywood base. Adding a frame of 1x1s will at least hide the twist and the ground cover takes care of the rest of it.
the reason this happens is because you apply glue or paint or varnish to one side, but not the other. the glue/paint/varnish shrinks causing it to warp. the way to fix this is to remember - whatever you do to the top, do to the bottom.
@@dirtyhandskev True, but in the two cases I've had, I did seal the entire base plate. Next time I'll put on several coats of epoxy. The splitting of the 1x2 glued pieces was fixed by clamping the panel down and driving verrrry long screws in from the sides.
@@sabrekai8706 imo, I would just stay away from wood in general. Woodworkers use special types of joinery specifically for this reason - wood will always move and swell with temp and moisture no matter what you do to it. Also wood workers account for this with bigger tolerances or grain orientation.
You helped me build my massive flames of war table ages ago, I sent you a message on Instagram and you walked me through some flocking techniques. Getting back into the hobby and rediscovering your channel has been awesome, glad to see you're still churning out the content!
I'm starting a Gaunt's Ghosts in 15mm... it's all your fault, but then at 12 quid for a platoon I can't really complain 😄 Looking forward to seeing the mini armies video.
In the unedited video on Patreon, do you look at more builds than just these? I sent in photos and videos of a Legion table I’m building and I’d love to get your thoughts on it if you happened to look at it on video..

I actually now request that you make a model of an actual gelatinous cube eating a city :D

to be fair I thought it still looked pretty incredible, i imagine surrounded by other like pieces it would blend in better.

I can't wait for the roll up mat videos!

Learning is a series of mistakes, untill you get it right. then, wow, you got it.

Just take your toys down to the local building site after everyone goes home.

The lava looks like epoxy resin dirty pour. You can do really nice waterfall effects or the nicest fake marble flooring. Dirty pour is art in it self

They're not failures, they are lessons.
Doesn't make you feel much better when these 'lessons' happen though.
Thank you , Luke .

Really love this format of video
Excellent views of others work. I think this should be a regular feature!
Cardboard terrain is pure nostalgia
Kudos to Josh for wearing The Hellfire Club T Shirt. Legendary. He is Eddie Munson in RL.
A lot of good information in these critiques.
That's the next Godzilla opponent sorted then:)

Cracking vid mate
Hi Luke. Do you still find time to play your Bass?
Thank you for your tips, most helpful
hiya please does anyone know where to buy plastic diamond plate sheet , i see modellers use it but its a crazy price on ebay, cheers.
i think Robert should let the warp overtake his diorama. It is a good pain.
Where I can send my photos of terrain for next edition of such video(?)
