I LOVED THIS VIDEO SO MUCH I FEEL SO HONOREDDDD i’m sorry my way ruined your mojo but i’m glad it gave you perspective!! I learned a little something too… i fall into those exact same patterns and i need more discipline too. maybe i’ll do a mirror of this on my channel, i hadn’t thought about it before 🤔

I’m learning Arabic rn, and a listening activity I do is playing vocab videos on youtube (e.g. 100 words for everyday life) and writing down how I think the word is spelled. That way, I can work on distinguishing similar sounds and can also connect words I might have heard but haven’t fully committed to memory.

This video was so interesting. I’m a HUGE fan of Elysse and have often wondered how she’s acquired such high levels with her languages with a routine so chill. Witchcraft is the answer I suppose because I’m very much like you. If I don’t check off the boxes (flash cards, mandatory listening, italki etc) early in the day, it prob won’t get done. I think what didn’t help you was being so new in Bulgarian. Had it not been for that you could’ve thrown a movie or playlist on in the language and called it studying like I do 😂

Loll that’s me with French. I’m like - Yh it’s fine I’ve watched a 10-15 min RUclips video today 🫠🫠 (tbf tho French isn’t my priority hahahah but I’d still love to have a bit more discipline so I could improve instead of just maintain ish)
      Edit: typo

tbh I don’t know where I’d be rn without the language learning community on RUclips 👀💦 I loved this video a lot!

It's always fun to switch up learning methods for a little while. I used to study with songs more often... this makes me want to reintroduce that activity into my study regimen!

I personally don't enjoy translating songs at a beginner level. It makes it feel like I'm studying every time I listen to those songs. Even after ten years. I've found that listening to A LOT of music in a specific language helps me remember vocabulary and improve my listening comprehension without even having to try. With my latest target language I just listened to whatever music I like. As my general level got higher I naturally got better at understanding songs without it feeling like studying. Now that I'm at an intermediate level I like looking at the lyrics on spotify if I do have trouble understanding some things. It feels a lot better at an intermediate level.

Is because you make emotional associations with the songs, That's very effective
      Keep up the good work

My language learning methods couldn’t be farther away from Elysse’s. Still, I love watching her videos (especially because I know she speaks my native language beautifully- the language being Portuguese) and your channel is also one of my favorites when it comes to language learning. This was a really fun idea that I think I should try some time. After all, it’s still learning and improving in the target language. Great video 👏👏
Suggestion: t Matt vs Japan (Refold method). Would be interested to see you take the challenge.

This was so fun to watch!!! Have you ever tried transcribing audio as a listening exercise? I find it really helpful personally, and also super engrossing/more structured.

I've been meaning to try it!! I've had to transcribe a lot in my native language and haaate doing it so I've put it off lol but I feel like I'll enjoy it as a language exercise!

Please do Iclal next, she's a Turkish polyglot. I feel like she learns languages to a relatively good level in a shorter span of time than one would imagine so it'd be good to analyse and apply some of her methods i think. She also usually speaks at a faster pace which I find fascinating and has often been told by natives that her pronunciation is really good.

Nice concept and a great way to really test what does or doesn't work in your own learning. I think it's really easy to get stale and stuck with our ways of learning, ignoring when we need to shake things up a bit. Will definitely give the song translation a go!

I have been listening to a song I really like in French. I'm beginning to be able to understand some of it but I like the idea of translating it into English (a little at a time) French has been my focus language this year but next year I also would like to start learning Polish and Hebrew. Thanks for a great video!

  • @FrankKimono744

I learn whole sentences saying them aloud. 5 days - 300 repetitions per day at least. Later I don't need to translate. I know the meaning of words straight away like in my native language. And also I remember the meaning longer than by learning separate words. This method is called: chunking. It was a real game changer in my learning process and communication skills in English and other languages.😊
