Muito bom maquinário. A torra ficou muito escura. Para um café especial, gosto da torra mais clara, para não usar açúcar na hora de beber. Esse aí provavelmente vai ficar com gosto amargo.
Hi, I have a question : I have seen many drum roasting, one thing that I am not quite certain is that does the gas flame has any health concern when the beans were burning directly under the flame ? Does it produces hydrocarbon which stick on the beans?
No. It is not a health concern but a roasting concern as on these small setups the flame can scotch the bean. Better to have solid drum like my drum roaster I use. Mine is ventilated at ends but over flame is solid stainless steel drum. Much better.
I use charge at 200c. 7c max per 30 sec to First crack at 200c at 8 minutes. Then 3c per 30 seconds max Rate of Rise to 2nd crack or about 225c at 11 minutes for a full city plus roast.
I would like to add on more comments about this setup against on other similar setup: Most drum assemblies that I found from amazon are mounted on both sides which makes it difficult to having the same setup as this. Overall, the beans looks evenly roasted (best roasted video using this type of roasting).I believe the temperature was very well controlled under the enclosed conditions and at indoor. I had viewed many other videos which are done in the backyard which will be subjecting to outside weather and wind conditions which will influence the ambient temperature as well as the temperature inside the chamber. This makes the beans are unevenly roasted. One last point is, the amount of beans are only 227g which makes it more manageable and achieving better control over the evenness of roasting.
Great review and thanks! I have a couple of questions: 1) can you share how to install the thermocouple and which thermocouple your ordered? Which thickness? 2) are you still happy with it?
It's a 12vdc motor with an switching AC adapter. You should be able to power it from a DC source if you are on a boat or RV. You can also get it with a hand crank / flywheel for full manual operation
I have been thinking about the Kaldi Wide but for only an extra 50 gram capacity I think I will save the money. I usually only roast half pound batches anyway. Can this roast a full half pound? I’m thinking yes because of the gas heat. I also like the smaller footprint of this machine.
CedarDrift Thanks! I just put it in my Amazon shopping cart along with gas and a stove. Now all I need is the extra money, probably in a couple of weeks.
Hello. Great video. I’m about to receive this roaster. Did you have to mod the temperature probe holder for your digital prob? If so would you mind sharing how? Thanks and happy roasting.
Hello, thanks for watching. Yes, I use a CDN digital thermometer, and I bought two stainless steel rings with set screws to mount the probe. Most hardware stores can find the correct ring size if you bring in your thermometer probe. Great choice for a tiny roaster. Hope that helps!
Awesome video! I'm looking at picking up this Kaldi roaster soon. Are you still liking the roaster and is the Kaldi motor still running strong? Thanks!

This is the most well setup drum roasting process, this is what I am trying to do. Thanks for the video.

How good, practical and easy to carry out
Looks like a pretty even roast. Great Lil Roaster.
Yes, no complaints so far!
Muito bom
hi, any chance u could post a link to the stainless rings or what size to order for the cdn probe? thanks
30cm K type thermocouple to my multimeter to get accurate temperature control

Can you say what's the roast profile you're using? how many degrees/minute in each stage of the roast? Thanks

Info please,
Can you power the drum motor of DC or AC only?
Sante Kotturi It appears to be an AC adapter

Yes, mine easily roasts a 1/2 pound. Sometimes I push it and add a extra 40 grams of green, and with a few mods, can handle that as well.

How long was your roast? ...or just until 420?, ...as quick or as slow as possible?
Awesome video! I'm looking at picking up this Kaldi roaster soon. Are you still liking the roaster and is the Kaldi motor still running strong? Thanks!
Thanks! Yes, I still love this roaster. No issues at all with the motor - been over a year and it works the same as the day I bought it.
Sweet! Thanks again. I'm in for one. I was looking at the gene cafe and going between this and that but man the Kaldi looks so much more fun.
Yup- you’ll have ultimate control over duration and temp with this, plus, you can do back-to-back roasts
