DO NOT JACK UP A CAR THIS WAY - This is not the proper way to jack up a car. You may not care about yourself or your car, but please don't be a bad example for others and post a video on it without warning others. You do not want your jack holding up one side of the car. You should've used one of the 'spare' jacks stands for that side the jack is on and then you lower the car on both jack stands. You don't use a jack to support the weight of the car, it's only to lift it up so you can place a jack stand under it. I've seen jacks slip and move on uneven surfaces. While they didn't fail or make the car fall, it can cause the car to suddenly jerk and the movements and could lead to a car falling off. Also if you only jack up the the front only, please put wood blocks behind the rear wheels.
I've had cars fall off Jack's on level. I've had Jack's give up their pressure while the cars up. Always thanked whoever that I wasn't under it. I always always always have blocks under lift points, dont even trust jack stands.
Very Informative, Good Job. One thing you did not do on the Brake Pad change out is to check the Ebrakes and make sure they worked. Maybe even turn on the ignition/engine and make sure no warning lights came on.....Also on the front brakes, if you open the bleed valves when compressing the piston it is easier to compress the piston.....but you will need a small plastic hose which fits over the nipple for recovering the brake fluid, or let it bleed all over the ground which gets very messy and as your aware brake fluid is very corrosive. Again very informative and thank you.
Thanks PK, you made very good points. I kept it to the basics so that a novice can take care of this with basic tools, car is very easy to work on for sure.
I wouldn't use that filter. STP is made by Champion Labs, and that particular one is an Ecore design. Ecore design uses cheap parts and the filter element has fiber caps instead of metal and a plastic cone in the middle. I use Wix/Dana, Napa (Made by Wix/Dana) or Purolator. Go to this link to learn more about filters: www.minimopar.net/oilfilters/index.html Also I installed a Fumoto drain valve on all my cars and truck. No wrenches, just open the valve. Additionally the Fumoto valves I have are equipped with elbos so the oil can be diverted straight down.
fyi if something were to happen to your engine, THEY DO ANALYZE the oil to make sure its proper weight and will deny any warranty work related to that issue, I bought the extended warranty because I knew i was gonna rack up a crap ton of miles (already hitting 14k in 6 months) something else of note I thoroughly went through the warranty, you must get the oil changed every 6k miles, (My MAINTENANCE MINDER said only 50% at 5500 miles) so I do not follow the maintenance minder until my warranty is up, every 5500 to 6000 miles I do an oil change!!!
They'd have to prove that my slightly different weight caused the issue, which would be VERY hard to prove. The only difference is that my oil has a larger temperature range than than 0w-20 oil, especially at higher temperatures. Since I was doing a track day on a hot day, the oil will keep its viscosity, and therefore oil pressure will stay nominal. The only negative is that there is EXTRA lubrication, which protects the engine better, but reduces miles per gallon. I'm not too concerned with MPG, so I'm ok with this :).
I am only putting this up here because in your video you talked about using a different eight oil and I want anybody watching to be informed about their warranty
that's fair, I did put a link to Honda recommended oil in the description, just to be sure. Maybe I should make a little video talking about oil weights.
@@FlyinGato I’ve had my ‘16 Civic for 5 1/2 years now, do my own oil changes (as a result of Jiffy Lube mess-ups). That underbody shield removal and replacement, I’ve just taken it as a part of the oil change process. And it’s not difficult to do, it’s just a PITA sometimes. 🤷🏻♂️
Elias, how do I get the information in the middle digital screen to show me the oil life? How do I switch the information from the miles to oil life? Please and thank you 🙏
Ahh, I hear ya. Well, it just seems like 40weight might be a little too much for 20 speced engine. Perhaps not and it doesn't mind that euro spec Mobil 1 at all. Let us know how it feels with this oil. Is that the first time you put in anything different from 0w20?
+Sergey Parshin I used 0w-20 the first time I changed the oil, 0w-40 was because I knew the track will be super hot, as temperatures get cooler I'll likely go back to 0w-20, as that will likely get me better MPG as it's a lighter oil.
STP isn't the worst, Fram is the worst, but in lab tests, as long as you change the oil every 10k miles, even the FRAM filter does fine, so I wasn't too worried ☺️️☺️️
my 2017 Si likes to mix gas and oil as if its a 2 stroke. after 3k miles from oil change...its way high off the max oil level in the dipstick AND ITS DRIPPY and smells more like premium 91 octane than oil !!. I dunno how this engine will last..(probably after my warranty ends) theres little viscosity in the oil so I have to change it every 3k miles. The dealer is of course in denial. My Si is stock and i dont race and abuse it. AND I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA not Alaska. Goodluck on your Earthdream engines guys..I think Honda drop the ball on this 1.5 T engilne
Thanks!! I will as I see the need to upgrade. Next DIY video will be replacing the pads, but I am thinking of making this more of a track weapon, so Hondata or Ktuner, exhaust/intake, better tires, dedicated track rims, better driver's seat, etc... coming in the future
ugh. that aluminum aero cover...you're right. Honda needs to put more thought into it. How about one very large 1/4-turn cover that uncovers the drain bolt and filter and can be removed without tools? How about one large cover that slides into place and clicks into tabs like the battery cover on my mouse?

+rxvexe exe I always put wood blocks behind the rear wheels, and I always drop the car on the jack stands, I leave the jack there as a fail safe

Just use ramps, set parking brake and brace the rear tires.

Has this car been reliable? I just bought one yesterday
Lol you asking after you bought the car
@@debrisgt1625 yup haha
@@juliorubalcava95 I bought a 2016 Civic when it was brand new. It now has 130K miles. All I’ve done is routine maintenance. It still runs smooth. 😊
Bro your drain plug screw blue line shall centre to the yellow line. You shouldn’t over tight the screw. Careful with that.
i only use Honda oil filters and also put some oil in the filter to avoid a dry start up
good idea, I've been doing these oil changes on my cars for 15 years now with no issues as well
what size is the crush washer? M14?
I read tons of people talking about the oil dilution issue. But it seems never talked about in actual oil change videos ?

That engine has very tight tolerances and is designed for a 20 weight oil. 40 weight is way too thick and will void your warranty.
The panel shows that you have 10% oil life left as 10,000 miles the car runs. So, how much miles will you decide to change engine oil?
I recommend as soon as you see 10% left, change the oil
Appreciate this video. Thank you!!
Glad I could help!

no they don't have to prove its a direct cause, if it fails and you violated the terms of the warranty in any way they can deny it, ask any lawyer

Prime the oil filter with oil next time it won’t spill out it will only absorb
totljag1 how?
just pour oil in the filter !
After my 2nd oil change, the belly pan came off while I was driving down the road lol. I basically said "f*ck it" and threw it in the trash!
+Import Car Enthusiast I don't blame you at all, it's kind of useless.
What is the oil capacity with new filter?
That black piece the Philip head is connected to what is that part called? Mines rip off and needs to replace
The front black underbody panel?
FlyinGato yea do you know the part number
I always do my own oil change
Any oil dilution
I suppose you could just cut a hole in the metal cover for better access and still keep most of the protection in place.
yea, we'll see. For now I'll just deal with the pan

I kinda like how Kia and Hyundai did their underbody shields…they have cut-outs for the drain plug and the oil filter. Makes oil changes simpler.

there's a button inside your console you can press to cycle through, if I remember correctly.

HAHA, glad you liked that!!
FlyinGato i did bro!! go video tho dude!!! it was really helpful
Your using a very low efficiency oil filter. That filter is meant only for 3k miles on it. Wouldn’t be the best for synthetic oil
+Andy Rod oh I knew that, I had planned to change it often anyway
Ramps are easier
next time try loosening the oil cap on the valve cover before you get underneath for better flow. you can even remove the dipstick as well
+Vincent Martinez I actually like reduced flow in the beginning, less chance of oil splashing
well done gato mroe of these vids pls :)

where is the middle jack up spot? I just feel the plastic part .
Hey bud, good question, you inspired me to make a video. ruclips.net/video/Z2q_qm-thrk/видео.html
FlyinGato thanks bro! I am using the 2 sides to jack it up unfortunately. Jack it up one by one haha. I'm about to lower my 2016 civic soon
what springs will you use?
FlyinGato D2 Racing haha. 2" drop haha :)
+RAINY APPLE I'm looking at getting a one inch drop, maybe the eibach sport? We shall see...
So you pour 0w-40 into an engine that calls for 0w-20??? 🤦♂️
it's for better heat management
FlyinGato but because it is a thicker oil, isn't it harder for that 0W-40 to get into every nook and cranny designed to work with 0W-20?
How does 40 affect the turbo vs 20?
Higher heat resistance, slightly worse gas mileage
Lolol the revs
5w30 works best !
Someone grew up without a dad...
No I still have my dad 😁😁
