Great tip on knocking that sharp corner off before welding!! I usually tig fuse those, but sometimes I mig them and you're right, it's hard to run a straight bead on a knife edge like that...great tip!

At fifty-on I`m getting laid off (after 26yrs working as a 3D modeler/graphic artist)... but on the plus side it`s forcing me to do the things I`ve always wanted to do anyway. Things I didn`t otherwise have the courage to do, and never got around to learning when I had that steady check rolling in. So now I`m being forced into it, and I`ll have to hit the ground running! So maybe it`s a blessing... because its sink or swim time! Can`t imagine how much harder this would be moving forward without your channel, and I just wanted to say thanks... it`s very much appreciated! My very best to you and yours!

My LaSquare is here since yesterday. It was not so easy to get one of these here in Germany so i ordered it in the UK and it is metric, juhu juhu 👍😉 A day without welding is like a day without sun, for me !
What I like about your videos is you do everything, Oxy, mig, tig, steel, Stainless steel and Aluminum where as some others all they show you is Aluminum. That's great except most of my welding is steel or other ferrous metals. Your insight is great & I really enjoy your content.
Your a great teacher. Sometimes unless somebody shows a better way you get stuck on bad technique. This is a better way and I’ll implement it. Love your channel it’s got great content.👍
Fireball Tools squares work great for keeping square tubing in a fixed position for welding. I enjoy watching your videos. You're a great resource for knowledge and the practical application thereof. Keep em coming!

Great video again. I do this joint very often for frames. I grind a flat on the corners at 90 degrees to the outside edge before putting together on the bench. It gives you a nice little 90 degree corner to fill and grinds up lovely.👍
This is exactly the way I was taught 20 years ago, always works well. I've tried to teach this to some of the clowns I've worked with over the years, sadly some just don't seem to understand and it always showed in the finished product.
Hi Jody, when I make box section frame work I nock off thickness of box each end that way you don’t have to grind Down outside edge it leaves a little internal 90 so when you run down out side makes a good strong joint Hope that makes sense Keep up all the good work and tips love it👍 Jamie from UK

alot of times I bevel the joint prior to welding to make the beads get deeper penetration and lay flatter as well. this comes in handy on things that need the welds ground flat, since there will be less to grind
Look at that Jody!, You keep everything square with out use a square vise like i use or fireball square like JD uses. Old school! Is sometimes the best way!
I square it & tack the center of the tip, then quickly pull it back tight into my square & tack the top of the back corner & then flip & top of back corner on other side. Then run a bead down the tip, this melts in the tack that I left in the center, then around the rest in no particular order but starting away from those corner tacks & then running the bead into them to melt them in. So a bit different but I enjoyed your thought process on the subject. I use an all aluminium square so I can weld with it in place.
over the years as a on/off site welder' i was suprised how many supposed pro welders had difficulty welding box section to a good standard, i used to help out a friend with a fab' shop when large runs came in so we used to use Agency welders when needed, we soon found out the failings of this but had no option, so every welder we hired had to do a simple test consisted of a upright of 2"x2" (50x50) in our case 12" tacked to a base plate then a piece of box section 3" long tacked at right angles 2" from the top so looked like a lower case 't' test was put 4 fillets around the right angled box' you would not believe how many failed that test and those people worked in the industry ...
What this guy calls “pretty decent” are outstanding welds. Always a humble dude!
If his welds are decent mine must be horrendous!

Beginner welder here. Glad I found this video for "weld metal shrinks". Will make me put some thought into weld order from now on. Lots of great info.

I've never been able to get the hang of welding the outside corner with my everlast welder but since watching this video it has become so much easier

Oh, some of us had to learn this the hard way. So basic, quite not so obvious thing to consider and you just saved a lot of frustration.
Your videos are always great to watch you give details and you get straight to the point.

Showing MIG tacking as part of the process would be helpful. The speed you can make the tacks also impacts the squareness.

Way better option for someone who doesn't want to constantly spend more and more money before trying to make something!
We tack 4 corners then measure, as the other lads always destroy our squares, 3,4 an 5 on other things
Some good advice. I spent some time (and many not square corners) learning how to keep rhs square when welding. Cheers.
