Another point for us who are getting up in age: the longer you put off variance, the more you lose and the harder it is to regain. Don’t put off movements that you suck at - in fact those are exactly where you should be concentrating. If you wait too long, you may never be able to regain proper flexibility/strength, so embrace the suck now so your life won’t suck later.

So basically in times of specialists- examples:
-science- for example medicine, neurobiologist, proctologist, internist, etc.
-sports- runners, weight lifters, olympic athlets, gymnasts and so on
So you just want to take human being and make him 'over average' in everything, but without any chances to compete with specialists? So it is like learning 15 languages and have abilities to communicate but it would be hard to talk about quantum physics, talk law, or have deep conversation about philosophy in each of them. Sry, but we live in world of specialists. I would like to see more non standard WOD's at games like bear fight with small knife (wrestling + some knife skills), then if alive transport dead bear like 1km to the stadium (perfect crossfit excercise), and lastly gut it before the sunset with time CAP. These kind of abstract examples would be better because mixing some gymnastic movements, weighlifting, running/swimming(averege skilled) isn't good too watch- also commentators are bad as fuck in correlation what is going on on the screen- guy is lifting barbell and they are excited like it would be 100m sprint with photofinish.
I don't hate CF, I enjoy it. It is gr8 FBW for avg Joes that want to go out and workout but have no clue where to start. Also it is more enjoyable than doing leg day/push day/8-12 reps you know what i mean.

If you want to be the best in the world at anything, yes, you must be a specialist at the exclusion of everything else. But you must choose ONE thing, and one thing only. In order to be prepared for anything, as well as develop world-class fitness - you know, work capacity across BROAD time and modal domains - you must vary your training.
Also, the examples of specialist you provided are CAREERS, not nature. In nature, the specialist is often punished while the generalist is rewarded. Ask a quantum physicist if they can bandage an injured arm and place it in a sling. Not likely. On the contrary, soldiers are often expected to be well-versed in combat AND field dressing wounds. If you’re going camping, it doesn’t do you much good to be an expert in 19th century literature and nothing else, but knowing how to start a fire, discern which plants are safe to eat, and navigate safely using a compass are all useful skills.
