    • @RailRide
      @RailRide 2 месяца назад

      @@TheHopelessGeek Some folks rip files from CD's (I've heard some audiophiles doing this have truly _massive_ collections on their players) and those don't come with embedded album art unlike music you get from Amazon/Bandcamp/Beatport, etc. Music files acquired this way often depend on being organized into album folders with a single "folder.jpg" serving as the artwork for each separate album.
      Personally I don't listen to albums, but a folder of individually-purchased singles set to random play, so whenever necessary I've manually inserted album art (and metadata) using a freeware Windows application called "MP3tag". I have an additional use case which may or may not apply here since I use a SanDisk Clip Sport, which will only show album art if it's 480x480 or smaller.
      Most purchased MP3's have 500x500 (with some songs having as much as 700x700) album art, so i have to use MP3tag to extract the artwork from the MP3 (you can then save it as a .jpg), resize the resulting jpg in an image editor, then use mp3tag again to re-insert the resized image (along with the original) back into the file, along with any missing metadata you can just type in. Once saved, the Clip will show the album art (subject to a couple of operational quirks).
      The player you're reviewing here may or may not have the same restriction, but if it's not mentioned in the manual, you _might_ want to play around with embedding different sizes to see what works. That is, if album art is of any importance to you (I know it was a commenter you were replying to, but I figured my info might be helpful in general)
      Something you might want to check for is whether this player can randomize (shuffle) its playback. Some (most?) generic Chinese music players only simulate random play by _occasionally_ jumping forward or backward in the track list...in the _same order_ every time you power up the device. I went with the SanDisk players since they actually randomize their playback in shuffle mode such that you cannot predict what song will play next in a given session. My experience with the generic players was during the era when they only had at most 1-2 gigs of onboard space, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the low-end units still do that today.
      ...wow, this turned out to be a lot longer comment than I planned 🤓.

    Nice. I use mostly uncompressed lossless with wired iems when I want good audio.
    Good to get facts right. Oppo were the first to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack. They made it a big publicity thing about the sleek design, improved durability etc. Apple didn't do the same until some time later. Samsung made adverts saying they would never remove the 3.5mm jack. For years I used LG phones with their fantastic ess sabre Quad DACs. Now I use a Sony Xperia with 3.5mm headphone socket and sd card. Not as good as LG for audio quality but there aren't many choices for 3.5mm headphone Jack's, sd cards and 4 years of updates.

    Since it's only 2k one can consider this, I don't really see the point of buying dedicated DAPS, when you could buy dongle dacs which offer exact the same performance.
    Phones are much better overall in all aspects, you can stream music, and also run a system wide eq on phones (only android) via wavelet, which i can guarantee will be better than any eq on any of the daps available.
    Only usecase i can think for a dap is if you're some one who doesn't want to use a smartphone for whatever reason.
