    I really really liked your video. I have been researching gloxinia and your video was the first to answer my questions about dormancy. Thank you!

      Thank you. The gloxinia are not doing so well this year. The got some aphids that I couldn't shake off so I cut them back. We'll see if they rally!

    Beautiful! I had the experience of no tubers on tuberous begonias year before last and realized right away that they probably would not make it through the winter, and they didn't, but I had taken cuttings and rooted them myself through winter and those developed corms the following year and this year they bloomed. I have since bought more and will find out shortly when the frost arrives if they have corms. Thanks for covering these plants I have grown some before but never bothered with really taking care of them past the flowering stage.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  9 лет назад

      +Jackie Binkley Isn't it annoying about the lack of corms. But I see that you thought ahead. Gloxinia can also be propagated from leaf cuttings but the leaves were too far gone last year when I realised what was going on. Thanks for sharing.

    I always loved these flowers whenever I saw them in my garden centre but I was wondering if they ever re bloom. Thanks so much for making this video and let us know about them. Are they similar to begonias as well ? I have African violets and they are easy to rebloom so may be I can try one of these beauties next time when I saw them in the garden centre! thanks for sharing!

      +MaryG Orchids Hi Mary. Well I am glad if I have encouraged you to try some gloxinia. They are fabulous flowers and I suppose they are like begonias in the sense that you can store the tubers dry and then start them off again in spring.

    Hi Rachel, I have been growing Florist Gloxinia Sinningia S for about 15 years now. Planted it from tubers. Propagated it many times by the leaf. Gave many away as gifts and even though I said it is not dead it was discarded. Later on I forgot to propagate my plants for me and one year most did not come back. I had many colors but forgot there names. I had purple with white border, white with purple border, red with white border, white with red border. Pinks of many different kinds also. And then separate single colors. These all had very large flowers. I live in NY and at this time can't find the tubers or plants. Incorrect let me explain what I mean. Some Gloxinia plants come from seed and are not perennial plants and I was told the Florist Gloxinia Sinningia from tubers are the perennial plants. My problem is I have been looking for them for some years now and not be be found. I do not know why or where to turn? Would anyone have any idea as to where I can get them. I have even contacted the Sinningia society in NY and no luck. I do have a few left but not all the colors I once had. I must have the correct light. For some reason my Gloxinia did not rest this winter as it usually does and it is Feb. 24th now and cold, but not as cold as many winters. Do not know what to expect. Excuse me only a few went dormant and a few I see shoots now but not all. Remember do not water the leaf of them. If someone has information as to where I can buy tubers for these large gloxinia I would be interested. Excuse me I did find a few but it did not grow to large flowers only med. size ones. Thanks for the time to read this. Barbara

      +Barb Land It is inspiring to read of your great love for gloxinia. They are such a beautiful plant. I'm afraid I cannot advise on where to buy them in US.
      My gloxinia also refused to rest this winter. Poor things must be exhausted :)

    Hey there Rachel, ( I've got what was once a single plant has multiplied into three) mine had a short cold and dry winter rest about one month and 1/2 now it's back into growth? Is this okay? It's got blooms coming just in time for Xmas/New Years so it better be !!! :)

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  8 лет назад

      +Garrett Spring I think if the plant wants to wake up early, you must facilitate it. If not, you're asking for trouble. So I reckon you're doing well, Garrett!

    arent they different?like delphinium and consolida which people call consolida as delphinium
    I love the name gloxinia than siningia

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  8 лет назад

      +Alan Chan Well, both gloxinia and sinningia exist as genera. I thought that what is known as 'florist gloxinia' has now been reclassified as sinningia.
