#Tesla #SelfDriving #Train
When I drive my Tesla with FSD (Supervised) with even a hint of fog, the car continually says something like, "Poor visibility detected. FSD performance will be degraded." This driver was ignoring these warnings and was clearly not supervising the car. Also, the news anchor and the "expert" guest did not know this.
Since when physically driving has become a big burden?🤦🏻♂️
Since people have been getting publicity for "malfunction" teslas'.
Since people became lazy.
Since people who have to drive 45 minutes to work each day decided to note be a slave to the car for 1.5 hours of their day, about about half of their otherwise 3 or so hours of daily leisure time (outside of work, showering, eating, fixing things, etc) completely taken away from them 5 days a week.
It could also help people with certain disabilities.
Since @@akaLaBrujaRoja
Even if the fog blocked the view, I wish the gps map would have told the car that train tracks were up ahead, so the car should have at least slowed down. You wouldn't run across train tracks at 60 mph even if there was no train. This was both a sensor/camera failure but also a GPS or navigation failure. Another possibility is that somebody crashed their own Tesla just for views. When these videos go viral, the monetization on them is nice, so long as the car's insurance pays for the bumper repairs.
There's a reason why you drive cautiously in foggy weather, or better yet not drive at all depending on conditions. This is entirely a human failure. People have been driving in these conditions before cameras and GPS found their way into vehicles.
"I'm going to scroll social media while my car speeds through the fog with me inside it. Nothing could possibly go wrong with this brilliant idea."
Self driving is crazy. My car helps keep you in lane, but when it merges ahead the car pulls the wrong lane or just doesn't see the lane. They keep saying it's better than people driving. Lies always get us.
You must maintain control at all times. That's the reason it's called "supervised" self-driving.
Exactly, it's pointless
@@grandmastarflashbased on your logic, AI is pointless because it still requires human input in most cases. However, if everything is pointless, then what's the point of innovation and of you living in Earth. After all, there is someone more perfect than we are.
@IronCan88 No that doesn't follow from my logic at all, you're basically just making weird stuff up
@@grandmastarflash I use it all the time, it started out driving like a 16 year old. It's gotten much better.
Isn't it called "full self driving"?
Elmo in 2019. We will have 1 million robottaxi by 2020.
Im surprised this comment wasn’t deleted
FSD is currently in supervised beta mode. It's crazy the Tesla owner had full trust in it and let that happen.
Maybe he did it for views. A viral video with 5 million views can bring a lot of monetization money on Tiktok and RUclips.
It is a defective product.
@@kimoandrews5802, try Mercedes Level 3 and watch the videos where it can't be kept in the lane on a two-lane road with a double yellow line. 50 times the driver had to disengage the Mercedes as it crossed the yellow line each time.
@@williamrogers1219 We will not be seeing robotaxis anytime soon.
It looks like it was foggy and rainy. Seems kinda stupid to use FSD under those conditions. Sorta like driving the full speed limit on a icy road. Most people would slow down and be EXTRA alert. If we expect FSD to be able to handle ALL driving situations, it will NEVER be ready.
Basically it's a gimmick then.
This is absolutely his fault. The car tells you that you need to keep your hands on the wheel, and FSD doesn't ever speed unless you make it. This is stupid people doing stupid things. Absolutely the drivers fault and is playing victim for attention.
In a way it's fake news too. Shows 0 amount of research and journalism from the lady who's just reading words off a moving screen for a living.
Or maybe he crashed his own Tesla just for views. Who knows?
I don’t think it should be called Full Self Driving when it’s not fully autonomous. I also don’t think the technology should be on the road when it lacks safety capabilities. Elon wants to use cameras only but cameras will struggle in poor visibility situations. This capability should be shut down until it is demonstrably safer.
It already is safer statistically. Humans mess up too you know ?
Tesla’s have been doing that since 2017 people come on
Its a joke how people are saying its not tesla when their giving their money back in the uk because the tech doesnt work 😂
@@jordan8168you only see Americans driving it on wide open straight roads, I'd love to see FSD tackle the round about with roundabouts in Hemel Hempstead
@@Supraboyes😂😂 let it try the 5 in 1 roundabout or however many it has in one
@@jordan8168 i went over it today on my way home, it would be funny. i think the car would just give up and not move. lol
@@Supraboyes probably pop up with an error code or something saying autodrive malfunction or as you said just stop working, i mean elons ideas are good itd just be nice if he could perfect them before doing other things, it seems theres no r&d going on with previous tech
You should never use it in foggy conditions like you have to be alert especially limited visability
I mean, I think it's common sense to not use any sort of auto pilot or self driving capabilities when it's Foggy outside. Just saying 🤦
And if you still think you can use autopilot, you should be able to tell that the car is way too fast!
It appears that weather conditions, and the empty Train flatbed may have confused the FSD system at train crossing.
FSD is still learning real-life driving situations as the vehicle/drivers encounter them.
He is still the driver of this car and he should be paying attention at all times. he seems to be going a bit fast, maybe the video was speeded up. Agree with a previous comment though about robotaxi's. One of the problems is technology will fail at some point. I wonder what failsafes the robotaxi's have?
These are the hiccups along the way to full self driving. Everyone should be well aware by now that this is currently a driving AID and NOT a full chauffeur yet.
Sooooo, why is it called full self driving?
Curious if there a waiver you have to accept each time you put it into self driving mode?
It's not really full self driving yet
Was he looking down on his phone? It's hard to miss those flashing red lights ahead of you, genius. 🙄
Fools Self Driving
Why did he stop so late?
In such poor weather conditions, you cannot expect a radar (auto pilot) to be able to keep track of everything. What was the driver doing when this happened?
Another person also thought his Tesla would save him while ascending a mountain pass a bit enthusiastically on a freezing day....until he crashed into the side of the mountain. And another lost his life some years back when he and the FSD failed to recognize an 18-wheeler crossing his travel path.
That's part of the learning curve of the FSD. In a few years that will be history. However since it's still on beta, you contribute to improve the model. So do not fully trust the model for now.
Yes, put self driving mode on while it’s foggy. Duh!
Tesla warns about fog and poor weather conditions
It’s actually crazy how fake that footage is. You can see the texture pack on the grass. Idk abt the after math tho
Tesla took out radars from their cars as well, it’s only camera now.
Level 4 autonomous (Waymo or Chinese) use LiDAR, radar and cameras.
It's FSD "supervised". meaning the driver must supervised the system at all time. Speeding that fast in the fog was a really bad idea.
But it's in its name FULL SELF DRIVING, I'm surprised Americans aren't filing lawsuits.
"self drive" that may work or may not is far more likely to cause than prevent accidents.
Just wait.
It is what it is. So, just fix it and improve.
Very poor safety flashing lights.
Tesla needs a Lidar. Elon did cost cutting for profits but without Lidar and other types of backup detection systems, this tech is junk.
If the probability of a fatal accident occurring in autonomous driving is one in one million, and the probability of a fatal accident occurring in manual driving is one in ten thousand, I would also choose manual driving. Because I hope my life is in my own hands instead of being determined by AI.
Falsified Self Driving, FSD
TESLA is selling Unicorn too !
Terrifying. I prefer to be in control behind the wheel.
Still level 2.
Tesla lacks LiDAR and radar (Waymo level 4) would have detected that train.
diddy😭
It would have been one more human victim of so called Full Self Driving, had not the same human take responsibility for life
Just drive normally...you know with your hands and feet...and eyes. Stop being a lazy nerd.
AMEN!!!! 💯
It’s not the first time we heard this kind of accident from Tesla nor was it the first time EV catch fire spontaneously yet people still risk their lives driving these cars.
When you learn gas cars have a 58% chance more to catch on fire
Then EV has 70%
You don't say? Perhaps TRY consciousness for a change..
Self driving shouldn’t be vision only!!!! Removing the other sensors was a a HUGE mistake
💯 this. Redundancy in safety systems (e.g. multiple different sensors) is huge. Radar (or LIDAR) sensors would've indicated to the FSD computer that the car was fast approaching some sort of object...even if the CV couldn't see the obstacle due to fog/visibility conditions, it could at least deactivate FSD & alert the driver to take over, or take another evasive action (slow/stop or pull over).
@@pcjabber Elon promised a system that would drive better than a human ever could. I believed that when there were systems there that could see things a driver can’t. The moment the radar lidar and other sensors were removed and they went vision only is when they lost me. It’s purely a cost saving measure.
@@Dwilsonmusic145 I agree! To be fair, they do have more camera angles than my eyes can see (sitting in the drivers seat, anyway)...but I'm 100% with you.
FSD should be able to detect potential obstacles even when vision-based detection isn't feasible, and the only way I see to do that is with alternate sensors that don't rely on visibility, like LIDAR/radar/ultrasonic (sonar).
Exactly. This tech needs redundancy. Google had the right idea.
Lidar, lidar, lidar.
GEBA TO GEZER ≡ DESTINY/ FATE DECREE 2 Samuel 5:25
Who? What? Geba is in Rephaim Valley in Israel and Gezer was a town near the Philistine border back then. Not a classic Bible verse but it jumped out at me during my morning reading today. This was David’s second battle in command and he won both by obeying GOD’s directions. Most of us will not fight in a war on a grand scale but we all have our personal battles, don’t we? Driving what opposes us can only be done (successfully) in JESUS CHRIST. Yes Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Hindus, Rastas, agnostics, and atheists win battles, but these are Pyrrhic and transient wins. Victories in the true GOD in JESUS CHRIST are powerful, absolute, and everlasting. It is then and only then that we drive the enemy all the way to Gezer.
The only question is in my view whether the self-driving model causes less accidents than a human driver would. It would be a mistake to demand that the technology is perfect before we start using it, given the annual number of traffic deaths due to human error.
Agreed. It only needs to be better than average people to be a net gain for safety.
The problem is that most people think that they're above average drivers.
Tesla is a joke
Is it? How is this joke of a company worth 10x more than Ford?
Self driving cars are the equivalent of an 8 year old driving down the road. If people understood how radar and sonar works they would think twice before giving total to control to a computer based on ones and zeros..
Tesla use cameras and AI not sonar and radar
I've observed Tesla cars coming toward me on narrow windy country roads and not staying in their lane crossing the center yellow line. This to me is a danger to my life. Now I have to watch my car and try to guess what a Tesla will do coming toward me. This technology is NOT ready for prime time by any means.
How can you tell the Tesla going near you was actually on self driving? There's no way to tell from outside the car.
Yea that's what I want, a stupid sewing maching car.
PEOPLE CAN'T DRIVE so they let electronic do it. Are people getting dumber and dumber? They still haven't done better than a chevy V8 and no computers connected to the motor.
So this is definitely the owners fault. Upon activating Full Self Driving or Autopilot, the car not only gives you a warning to be alert and ready to take over at anytime but it also lets you know that it’s performance is affected by inclement weather like dense fog. I always turn off Full Self Driving when coming up to railroads or when it’s heavy rain or fog. It’s the driver’s responsibility to pay attention and not put their/others lives in danger.
I use FSD and when its on I consider that I am driving and FSD is just backing me up. If I get tired or distracted and make a mistake, FSD is there to prevent an accident. It never gets tired. It checks everything all the time. Driving with it off is actually pretty stupid. In almost every case like this one, it always turns out that the driver was drunk or distracted or FSD was not even on. In this case, it looks to me like the driver is clearly at fault as they were driving too fast for conditions and even so there was still plenty of time for the driver (supervisor) to take control.
Tesla cars doesn't use any kind of radar or lidar so they ability to avoid collisions under bad visibility is pure garbage. They will never be able to compete in safety in terms of self driving against cars which use those sistems as the new S-Class.
What I heard is "I wasn't paying attention"
Tesla owned here. First why are you om self driving (beta) while foggy and dark. Second is always be aware when using it, there was enough lead time for him to break.

Funny you mention seeing - I guess you didn’t read the article about Tesla buying $2,000,000 worth of Lidar sensors from Luminar this year? Where do you suppose those are going to be used? Hmm. Maybe you should do some research and use some critical thinking before commenting.

Waymo's starting to do well, with 5K paid trips per week and growing. Their approach is working much better than Tesla FSD.
And when are self driving tractor trailers supposed to be on American roads?
Smarter cars for stupider people now!
Pretty scary. I have FSD subscription on my Tesla. It is good for 95% of time . The other %5 will result in deadly crashes or expensive collision costs.
That's why you gotta pay attention folks
Actually, Tesla uses cameras to see cars and bikes, humans. it is same as person's eyes. if you dont see the train, the tesla also doesnt. Tesla uses powerful chip to translate all these to 3D. so basically tesla sees thing you see.
I used to be fully against self driving technology, but the more I drive with these idiots on the road there is no way it can be less safe.
Too many distracted drivers.
Thankfully, the attentiveness of the driver helped save him.
I trust self driving tech more than 95% of drivers.
I have been on the scene of about 15 tesla crashes, give or take, and not one was the cause of self driving tech, all operator error.
Why would you still be in self-driving mode approaching a moving train?
We all know that self-driving is STILL a work in progress and continually evolves, If I were approaching a train track, I'd have hands-on on.
What doesn't help is that there are so many videos out there, including from tesla, boasting about zero interventions
They didn't call it Beta and now Supervised for fun...it needs to be monitored and you can't turn it on without agreeing to that. This guy did it twice so he is pushing it rather than "supervising" it. His fault not Tesla's.
These guys are too brave beyond stupidity to trust this Tesla can drive itself 100%
The guys is not brave. He/she has low IQ and try to play victim. Tesla FSD would have warned continuously when it's foggy like that. And the driver should have heard the loud train noise. No matter how good a tool is, the weakest link is dumb users. Simple as that.
Yesterday tesla almost drove me to a pole...this is really bad
This looks completely fake

I wish they would remove this feature. It does not work. They know it does not work. They have known long enough to make corrective action.
