I am not a huge fan of the CVT but it’s not a deal breaker for me bc the exterior styling is EXCELLENT and the interior feels luxurious enough which is what I am wanting in a luxury crossover. INFINITI can’t put anything other than the CVT with their variable compression engine. They have stated that before. The VC engine is always and will always be paired with a CVT. If they get rid of the CVT then they would also have to ditch the VC engine and they just aren’t ready to do that yet.
The coupe body style is impressive however it comes with an aging gauge cluster and infotainment center along with the troublesome Jatco CVT transmission.

I have a 2015 Q50 which I’m looking to replace with something newer and with more utility. The CVT rules this out for me. Had a Nissan with a CVT once and I hated it.
The CVT tech has improved like crazy since your old Rogue. You can't even tell it's a CVT these days. Go and try it out. In this segment however I think RDX is the top dog.
The problem is not just a CVT, it’s THE CVT. That particular CVT is really really bad and in some cars it just kept on breaking down again and again. Reliability is virtually nonexistent. And also this car shares the FWD platform with the MB GLA/GLB class. Not really up to the competition as many others in this price range has a longitudinal engine setup on a RWD/AWD platform.
I love your videos and I always appreciate you both very much, thank you ! I said this in another channel and I'll say it again about Infinity because I hope they're listening...I try never to say anything negative on the internet but I do sometimes feel like Infinity is deliberately trying to go out of business with design and budgeting decisions?! The upper instrument panel and dash in that 2022 Qx55 look identical to what was around in the year 2000....when I graduated high school. That dual screen setup wouldn't have even been cool back in 2000 especially considering they look like they're from completely different suppliers, it's even worse when you see it in person. Is it just me? Also why does it have to have "Infinity"spelled out, a foot and a half long across the back hatch in addition to a giant Infinity badge right below the exposed rear windshield wiper which clearly should have been engineered underneath the spoiler?! The motor and CVT sound like a vacuum cleaner with a fluctuating current. This car is expensive and would take a lot of someone's hard-earned money especially as shown at nearly 60k!?! I highly recommend anyone look at the competition.
An absolute stunning exterior design. And Nissan cuts corners with ancient off-the-shelf tranny and interior design. This is what happens when you allow bean counters to run a company (into the ground).
I have 25,000 on my 2022 Outlander, runs great. The 2.5 engine and CVT work great, plenty of power for me. The major reason I bought this Mitsubishi was the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. So, those who are in dismay about the CVT have plenty of worry free driving time under this warranty. I am getting great gas mileage 26 city and a true 32 highway.
As impressive as this is. Zack’s use of the word ‘Premium’ is appropriate. I don’t consider cars at less than $50,000 CAN ($60 for SUVs) to be classified as ‘Luxury’ cars. A Brand should not, by default, receive a luxury status throughout it’s lineup. The 3-series, C-class, A4’s and ES’s ... are certainly upscale/premium; but faux leather, heated/cooled seats, HUDs and a German (Japanese) Premium badges are just ‘not quite’ Luxury vehicles. They are simply .... achievable, disposable and generic. True Luxury feels special (like my past 7-series) every time you look at it , drive it or arrive. I like all Brands; but the Badge alone shouldn’t dictate a luxury status - unless your Badge says Rolls Royce, Aston Martin or Bentley. Despite these points; I do very much like this new Infiniti, quite a lot, for an upscale premium model. Great review. Sorry for the rant. Thanks for the video.
That’s not true, in fact Infinity was the first luxury automaker with a SUV coupe, it called FX 30. Then years later BMW use the same format for their X5, turn it to a coupe and called it X6. Keep up the good work guys 👍🏾.
Great looking car, but Infiniti missed the execution. I had the QX50 twice as a loaner while my Red Sport was in for maintenance. Suspension is bouncy. Accelerator is not linear. Seating is uncomfortable. And, they weighed it down with large wheels. This comes from a guy who owned an EVO VIII and an un-streetable WRX. Looks, yes. The rest, no.
Not for me at that price. From what I've learned from your videos, I could get the best trim Mazda CX-5 (and I don't care how anyone pronounces it!) for about $35,000 US or, if I want a premium badge, a similarly loaded Audi Q5 for about $50,000 US. But getting close to $60,000 US for what looks like an outdated model has no appeal.
Yeah, I love this design, but hate CVTs, but I can understand coz changing anything requires lots of invested capital. They probably figured they could save that capital and keep the price lower in hopes to sell people on design and a much lower price than Europeans who are experts at charging you more for shaving off a part of the rear end.
Would be interested in seeing how the VC Turbo engine performs with a proper automatic transmission. I drove the QX50 in 2019 and the CVT really seemed to hold it back.
It's mid-2024 and I still love the exterior styling of the QX55. For those who have owned this vehicle how reliable is it? Any maintenance issues or other information for prospective buyers? Thanks!
The Infiniti QX55 should definitely have a torque converted automatic transmission. That would wake the powertrain up. The VC turbo engine is unique and I bet it works really good. Overall I like the QX55. Like you two have said already, it needs some interior tweaks to make it more modern, and bring it up to the date with the rest of its competitors. The resolution in the backup camera is grainy and lacking contrast. The head unit for the infotainment also lacks sharpness, and the graphics are from 2013. The processing speed also looked leggy. The blacklevels in the display almost looked nonexistent. All in all the QX55 is fresh on the outside and stale on the inside. Nissan is on a role lately updating their lineup. It's time to start pumping some money into Infiniti again, or else consumers will continue to overlook this brand. Good review you two! 👍
@@andreaspencer9813 I've seen all the auto review channels. I know that you two are some of the best I've come across. You two know what's up! 💪 I like the way you two deliver your material. It's excellent consumer Information for those who are considering a new vehicle, or for those who just want to be informed about a particular brand and model.
I just got out of a car with a CVT (CH-R) and into one with a regular automatic (Mazda 3). And though I love my Mazda, I kind of like the CVT better in highway driving. The transmission in the CH-R would kick down quickly, and I think holding the ratios without upshifting feels better for acceleration. I think CVT’s get a bad rap because typically they’re paired with economy engines. Give them more power and tune them right, and I think they’re fine.
Excellent review, both of You. I like Infiniti brand, they are very likable. But I never would own one, they are too exotic in my place. Unfortunately, Nissan withdrew Infiniti from the European market ( Western Europe, at least ) 1--3 years ago ( no new sales ) ! :(
Nissan is really missing the mark and they have the engines to make their cars more exciting and performance oriented. The QX55 can easily be offered with the QX60 powertrain for a Red Sport 300 model. In that smaller SUV it'd at least make 300+ Hp. They also should do a sport version of the QX60 as well with the Q60 Red Sports turbo V6 💯
Is this enough to get you excited about Infiniti?
No unfortunately not. I don't think a luxury brand should have a CVT.
After owning a 2016 Honda CRV, I'll pass on any car that has a CVT!
No
I'm sad they discontinued the QX30. For those that didn't know, it was a bargain GLA.
How long before we see a recall on the vc engine? Nah, this is unnecessary tech. Just use a battery if you want better power and economy.

I'm always amazed that the Stelvio is not part of your comparison models...it should!!
May I just say, video after video, Andrea is killing it! What a great partner for Zack! Reminds me of Zack's old days of co-hosting with Lacy and Dagmar, but Andrea is the real-life partner and is the BEST! In my opinion, Zack truly shines when he is doing back and forth with a co-host, may it be with Brian Chow or in this case, Andrea (who better to work with than with your life partner!). C'mon, non-subscribers! Let's support this Channel so that more will be able to experience the well-rounded car reviews of this wonderful couple! Keep up the great content coming, you two!
Wow, you are right, Andrea is the only partner I need. Simply the best!
@@Motormouth... Sweet!
Wow, thank you so much, we really appreciate your kind words. So glad you like what we are doing. :)
Leatherette on a 46k car? 2.0L turbo? Ugly top screen? C V T??? Yeah Infinity sucks. Hopefully they'll have a lineup overhaul like Nissan did.
Could the reason Nissan has left Infinity models to rot is because they are financially in trouble?
Another exceptional video!
Thank you so much Chuck! :)
Thank you, really glad to hear you are enjoying our videos.
Very sleek looking good stuff u2 ..
Thank you very much!
The current QX50 is a complete redesign that came out in 2018 as a 2019.
Where has infiniti been? Haven't seen the new ones on the road for a long time!
IF there is ample power, then CVTs are actually fine. You get to speed (or well above) long before the CVT sluggish whine starts.
Awesome review! Looks like summer there, beautiful dress Drea. Not crazy about the CVT. Why?
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
What are the limitations of the CVT? What is the purpose of the CVT?
An absolute stunning exterior design. And Nissan cuts corners with ancient off-the-shelf tranny and interior design. This is what happens when you allow bean counters to run a company (into the ground).
I have 25,000 on my 2022 Outlander, runs great. The 2.5 engine and CVT work great, plenty of power for me. The major reason I bought this Mitsubishi was the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. So, those who are in dismay about the CVT have plenty of worry free driving time under this warranty. I am getting great gas mileage 26 city and a true 32 highway.
Zac nailed it...CVT does not belong in this or any premium car...Great video!
Yes, it's 2022 for God's sake still no update to the interior!! Talk about dropping the ball 😳
Andrea, you stated you got a lot of looks driving the vehicle. I don't think they were looking at the car---just sayin
I think it will sell very well. I have seen several already in the Palm Springs area. They look great.
Thanks for the video.
favorite couple car reviewer❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! :)
That’s not true, in fact Infinity was the first luxury automaker with a SUV coupe, it called FX 30.
Then years later BMW use the same format for their X5, turn it to a coupe and called it X6.
Keep up the good work guys 👍🏾.
Infiniti invented the crossover coupe segment, you are right. Thanks for watching!
You had me stopped dead in my tracks at CVT.
Wait, leatherette seats!!!???? This is a luxury brand vehicle. It's more expensive than the QX50 and it has leatherette?????
WTF??
People talk about nissans/infinitis but people keep buying them😬! I’ve already seen a few of these on the roads.
Beautiful car tho
Yeah, I love this design, but hate CVTs, but I can understand coz changing anything requires lots of invested capital. They probably figured they could save that capital and keep the price lower in hopes to sell people on design and a much lower price than Europeans who are experts at charging you more for shaving off a part of the rear end.
Would be interested in seeing how the VC Turbo engine performs with a proper automatic transmission. I drove the QX50 in 2019 and the CVT really seemed to hold it back.
Nissan Pathfinder Mainland China localized version has this engine but mated to a ZF 9 Speed Traditional Automatic.
Thanks for sharing, you make some great points and thanks for watching!

@@ryanclark9415 So happy to hear this! Thank you.
looks great, but same as QX50. Hope the new QX60 can improve more.
I rather take the new mdx at 57k or the Lexus rx350 both will have better resale value and better tech.👍🏻
GV70! Waiting for you two to review that beauty!
Next week!
To be honest if it had a black grille, it would look good.
Awesome review guys! Nice vehicle but too pricey for me but if they included hybrid, it will sell well. Cheers! 👍🏻👊🏻
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it.
@@andreaspencer9813 I am honestly enjoy it. 😃
LoooooL
Excellent review, both of You. I like Infiniti brand, they are very likable. But I never would own one, they are too exotic in my place. Unfortunately, Nissan withdrew Infiniti from the European market ( Western Europe, at least ) 1--3 years ago ( no new sales ) ! :(
Thank you for sharing and glad you enjoyed the review.
I would take RDX over all other four options. It is better in all categories inmho
Great review & nice dress Andrea
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it.
Beautiful Vehicle Beautiful interior Dump the CVT
InFiniti is a great Brand very reliable
Nissan is really missing the mark and they have the engines to make their cars more exciting and performance oriented. The QX55 can easily be offered with the QX60 powertrain for a Red Sport 300 model. In that smaller SUV it'd at least make 300+ Hp. They also should do a sport version of the QX60 as well with the Q60 Red Sports turbo V6 💯
Impressed by the hedges.
Love the exterior but that interior is a direct carryover from the 2014 q50 paired with that cvt WTH Infiniti.🤮
