    This style manufactured '66-'77. One of my biggest regrets is getting rid of the vintage Broncos I had 20+ years ago. Basically had three parts trucks and one good one which I enjoyed off-road. The best one I had was a '73 which was the first year they offered power steering and brakes if I remember correctly. Still had drum brakes all around though. Vintage Bronco and James Duff websites are great sources for anyone wishing to restore or resto-mod one of these on a much more economical budget than ICON. It really hit me hard when about 15 years after letting them all go, I saw one about 70% restored at a car show with a price tag of $35,000. I used to see some of these that had Mustang uni-bodies mounted on the vintage 4x4 Bronco frame. The wheel base was close enough to get away with it. Hands down...the funnest truck I've ever owned. The '78 and '79 Broncos were full size but also very nice. In the '80's they began going downhill like the rest of Ford's trucks. The Bronco II, slightly smaller than vintage style and introduced in '83, was no comparison. Long gone are the days when trucks easily lasted 20-30 years because of their simplicity and stout design.

    This Bronco took me back to 1967. Dad had a 289 V8 67 used as a service truck for the service station. We used to hook-up a trailered wrecker for towing and a plow for snow removal. The brakes were non existent, the steering use to wonder, couldn't keep a straight line and it was very noisy at hwy speed maybe it was the BIG lug army Jeep style tires. By the mid 70's it was infected with so much rust it was parted it for the drive train. But honestly I loved it, but mind you at 16 as long that you could drive something you were happy. Thanks for flash-back. Cheers.

    *When I was 17 back in 1979 I got a job at the local full service gas station, 'Dave Johnson's Phillips 66'. I worked 6 days a week, saved every penny I could for a year, then went hunting for a Ford, Bronco! I found a '74 with a 302-cid that had just been painted and bought her for $3,500... yes, I got screwed! lol... Anyway, she was bright orange, my friends called her 'The Circus Clown Car' lol, but I loved her! I'd give almost anything to have another one, lots of great memories in that Bronco!*

    I'm a Jeeper from way back. What most of the commenters don't understand is that this Bronco is a museum piece. It is a work of art rebuilt by craftsmen who love cars. It is not intended to be driven, much less to be driven off road, it is intended to be preserved to show our grandkids that Detroit Iron makes the world's greatest automobiles. Men like Mr. Leno choose to preserve history through love and devotion invested in something that was designed to last and was not something planned to be obsolete in 3 years. Craftsman restoring America's history with pride precision paid for by a man who could choose to piss his money away on inconsequential pursuits is worthy of respect. At a minimum Mr. Leno's legacy will be a garage full of history that future generations can study and admire. Most of the Hollywood stars will have nothing of substance to show future generations. Keep restoring America's history Mr. Leno, you make us proud.

      @KlunkerRider 8 лет назад +4

      +cybertree Agreed, reading alot of the other comments its clear most posters simply do not understand the level of modifications Icon makes to the car. These are very capable custom made off roaders but most people cannot get past the price tag, but if you consider how much people invest in building custom off road vehicles that is about on par once you factor labor costs of having someone build it for you. If you know what you are doing you could build something like this for about half the costs but it would also take alot of time tools and a proper garage committed to build it, something not all of us have the option for. I would buy one of these in a minute if I was able too.

      If you have a family the downfall of these older carry all's was the lack of back doors, made it difficult to get kids in and out of the back seat...other than that they were great all around vehicles...at least to those who knew how to actually drive them and not send them upside down on their tops LOL.

    I like it. I agree the price is CRAZY. But ground up redesign. Everything is thought out. This would last a million years. Nice. Jesus. Everything is so expensive these days. Wow. You might as well build one of your own. Take 5 years to do it. ha ha.

      Agreed, it's super cool, but even if I had the money for it, I'd be too scared to use it for what it's for at that price. You could just drop a modern V8 and transmission in a old HiLux or something and have just as much fun for less than a tenth of the price without being terrified of tree branches and mud.

      Matthew Sharpe I wouldn't put gas in a hilux, but a bronco, blazer, jeep scout or power wagon upgrade and resto? That's cool stuff. I did a jeep resto /upgrade for much less.

      When you factor in the cost of all the parts to build this, the price goes through the roof. Dynatac prorock 60 read axle is like $8-10K the front axle is about $3-4k the Atlas transfer case is about $2500 The brakes are probably $4K. The engine is like 15K (without mods) Just from looking at it, I can see no expense was spared. From the parts, custom fab, and all the other add on s it's easy to see how the price goes way up. Keep in mind the guy who builds them has to make a little money to pay the employees, biz expenses, and put food on his table.

    • @Beer_Dad1975
      @Beer_Dad1975 10 лет назад

      hooleyboy Yes, I definitely think it's worth the money from a quality point of view - I just can't ever imagine being comfortable enough with something so expensive that I could actually use it for what it's good at... then again I'm just a middle class schlob, so I've no idea how it feels to be rich enough to actually own something like this - maybe I'd get over the value of it.

      You have to realize, its basically a new truck with very limited production numbers. Ton's of those parts are machined one by one instead of factory plastic or stamped parts which are way easier to make. When you take into account the motor alone is 20k, and the quality work, and the fact that it essentially only shares the basic frame and body work of the bronco. Everything else is new!

    • @1DEADBEEF1
      @1DEADBEEF1 7 лет назад +1

      Matt Close nonsense, parts are cnc'd so they can chooch them out anytime they want, they are not made one by one on a Bridgeport... also last time i checked the coyote v8 was not 20 grand l, more like 5 or 6....

    • @mattclose1439
      @mattclose1439 7 лет назад +2

    • @bull24471_va

      +deadgameguns Yea but your looking at what went into building the Bronco. Dana 60 rearend, Ford Mustang 50 400 hp, Atlas 2 stick transfer case. Finding a bronco not eat up with cancer or already been body modded .^^ to 80's Bronco's are had to fine anymore plus the detail to make them as true to there roots is costly. With that said yea $150 k is steep for me as well I much rather buy me a house with a big Garage and do a YJ or TJ Jeep for about $40k

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 6 лет назад +3

      None of that stuff adds up to $150-200k worth of parts. You could do all this yourself for far less. Your just paying for someone's labor buying vehicles that are already built like this.

      And be really silly.
      Who in their right mind would pay that money to off-road in this?
      It can be done a lot more stylishly, proficiently and cheaply.
      Doesn't look like its worth 150k and i bet it isnt even actually worth near that.

    • @georgev5766
      @georgev5766 8 лет назад +1

      ***** I could agree with this comment. People will always buy things just bc they can afford it. But Im not paying that much money for a car that does the same thing as a 30k jeep wrangler. Trust me, you will have more fun with an offroad beater than a 150k bronco.

  • @PingHorror
    @PingHorror 10 лет назад +12

    150-200 thousand. Better off buying a 2k Jeep and putting 30k into it in Fab and Parts and you would get more travel and better off roading potential. Cool but Over priced.

    That was a really nice Bronco, I used to own a 1976 bronco when I was 16, this is where I learned how to fix things, I used to jump it, insane hill climbs... I broke many inner axles and axle housings, that dana44 had weal inner U joints and bearings, the only thing I couldn't break was the transfer case, this guy uses all of the best parts, dana 60 rear axles, lockers... I like Jay's lead foot,lol
