    His impressions were so spot on. You could tell rather quickly that Eddie was born to be a star. So much wit and charisma even at a really young age.

    Vintage SNL was the best. Upto mid, late 80s. 🙂

    To answer your question it wasn't a comedy that it was based after. The White Like Me skit is a satire of a very real non fiction book by John Howard Griffin. Where he had his skin darkened and traveled the south seeing the experience dark skinned people went through there. So the skit is grounded in reality in that aspect.

    Vintage SNL was the best! Jerry Seinfeld may be the most successful comedian ever, but Eddie is the most versatile, so they're equal in my book. Eddie's amazing! :D

    Black Like Me was a real nonfiction book, about how horribly a white guy was treated when passing as black. You could only reverse the jokes if there was a world where the actual discrimination were reversed.

    @Britt I'm sure you would enjoy a hilarious sketch called "Going for an English" in the British comedy sketch show, GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME. This series comprised exclusively British Asian comedians. This sketch imagines a role reversal of how a stereotypical group of white "English" people behave when ordering food in an Indian restaurant 😂

    Gene Wilder played a black man in Stair Crazy with Richard Pryor

    • @xzonia1
      @xzonia1 3 месяца назад

      And Robert Downey Jr. played a black character, Staff Sergeant Lincoln Osiris. in Tropic Thunder. It was possible back then for the comedy to go both ways. :)

    • @mainmac
      @mainmac 3 месяца назад

       @xzonia1 It's never been ok to make fun of any 'other' group (that isn't more powerful) by dressing up as characitures of them, which is what minstrel blackface is. The humor in Silver Streak & Tropic Thunder is very different, it's making fun of the characters themselves who are doing it. It's not a question of 'when' it was made, it's where the humor is directed.

    • @xzonia1
      @xzonia1 3 месяца назад +1

      @@mainmac I never said otherwise. I said the humor can go both ways. Clearly, you have to do it in a way that is actually funny for it to work, though.

    • @mainmac
      @mainmac 3 месяца назад

      @@xzonia1 definitely wasn't any different then vs now, which is what I was responding to, and 'both ways' is often misinterpreted to flipping the situation in the comedy, without a flip in the real life situation that's being played.

    • @xzonia1
      @xzonia1 3 месяца назад +1

      @@mainmac I was responding to Britt's question of if it were possible for a white guy to play black the way Eddie played white. In that sense, yes, it is possible for it to go both ways.

    Vintage SNL they were allowed to really touch the outer bounderies in comedy touch issues which were testy. There wasn't the big cancel culuture on the outer fringes of both parties of today. It used comedy to highlight the issues .

    you should watch the bill cosby skit from RAW. i know you liked wayne brady’s impression. eddie’s is way better. and if we’re talking vintage SNL, the skit with richard pryor and chevy chase is hilarious, but possibly….not politically correct? someone help me with some adjectives here 😆

    Hey I requested for you to react to ANGELICA HALE doing (JVKE) GOLDEN HOUR in your reaction Fat shaming hope you will react ..ANGELICA is now *15yrs* old and is now in Broadway Musical get rave reviews and being considered for nomination of a Tony's which is like the Oscar in the movie business..so she most likely will not have time to do many covers because of the rehearsals and stage performances..

    was there a time when white comedians could dress up as black. Yes, that was a part of the minstrel shows. Also Amos and Andy. Not ok now

    • @slkinia
      @slkinia 3 месяца назад

      The radio show Amos & Andy featured white actors doing southern black dialects, with an occasional black cast member. But the TV show Amos & Andy was the first TV show to have an all-black cast. The NAACP in its short-sightedness protested the TV show's "stereotypes" and got it canceled after a couple years.
