for some reason im completely obsessed by f2 kit car, might be the sound, might be the twitchy behaviour or the liverys of the xsara and the megan might even be the fact that on asphalt these cars could reliably put on a fight with wrc cars of that era. I'm completely in love. The 90s were the best era to be a car enthusiast, i'm sure of it now.
What an era. Mad that there are so few cars like this competing in the UK today. While a factory F2 car is very expensive to run, France is full of F2-inspired F2000 cars, yet there are hardly any F2-inspired cars in the UK.
So glad you've bought such a treasure trove of footage. Deeply nerdy but please keep the footage in 4:3, the tight crop into the footage is really distracting. Anything from late 90's hillrally if you have any would be excellent as very little footage still out there.
Twice? Once at Chatsworth moments after Gwyndaf and Davies flipped their Escort (destroying an A pillar as I recall - lucky guys!) and once in the Isle of Man.
I am lucky to have seen most of these in action - you always could tell that a driver was trying hard by the note of them glorious NA engines literally screaming- Turbo with anti lag is just naff - What an era !
So is all this British Championship footage, you have the rights too available to buy anywhere? Like whole seasons? I still have the Duke dvd British Rally Championship 1972-2000 and that has a lot of great stuff on there.
It isn't, as it's not in an edited format right now, it is the raw footage from the cameras (some of which were used in the DVD / Videos of the time of course) but we bought this so that it could be shown, and we will be continuing to release plenty of unseen footage :)
Fantastic collection of footage. Semi related, but does perhaps anyone know which specific rally Alister McRae drove his F2 Nissan Sunny and beat most of (if not all) of the group A field? It was some truly excellent driving though I can't remember which rally it was.
Man i love these. They sound incredible, look aggressive and fast but still like roadcars.. Why cant we have things like this now? The Megane is so sexy
It took part in the 2 wheel drive 2 liter naturally aspirated FIA F2 championship ( 2 liter world cup ) in 1998 and 1999 and almost won the cup in 1999, driven by Swedish driver Kenneth Eriksson and Colin Mcraes younger brother : Alister McRae , they also drove the unsuccessful 4 wheel drive Hyundai Accent WRC in 2000 and 2001.
They are left hand drive because most were built for the international market, more countries drive left hand drive so it makes more sense. We didn't include all of the Kit Cars in here, we mostly concentrated on the 2.0 ones, but there will be a further Kit Car video that has the other cars in and S1600 etc
Mid to late 70's was mirrored by the mid to late 90's. Why did the MSA destroy what had built up, with the reintroduction of WRC machinery? Rallying went down like a brick in 2001 and has never recovered
It started life as a class for cars up to 2000cc and usually with FWD, the Kit Car bit came a little later when manufacturers were allowed to modify the cars even further, ie a 'Kit' to make the cars better
The ‘Kit Car’ regulations were introduced by FIA to allow manufacturers to take essentially shopping cars rallying and be strong and fast but cost a lot less (but still expensive) than the the WRC cars. Everything from a Fiat Cinquecento to a Golf GTi had a kit derivative. A range of parts could be swapped out to more suitable components, track increased (hence wide arches) rear spoilers (although they were more for looks than effect) Some manufacturers were happy with just using a few of the options like an LSD at first but they all got sucked in at the end. It’s sad this class of car is not still the top National Class, too many average drivers in very capable cars in small events these days. FIA as usual sold out.
The Maxi Megane was something else 🔥
That Mégane in the opening sequence was my favourite car as a kid. Loved it ❤
it had a very appealing color scheme and design of the car was nice too
Got to be some of the most exciting sounding rally cars in rallying - absolutely love the sounds of a high revving NA Four Cylinder
90s was the golden era of British rallying imo
it was the golden era of many things
No solo británicos
As Dutch I only can agree.

More F2 and Kit Cars please.
Sure we can find some more Kit Cars :)
Great times. The ibiza with Gwyndaf behind the wheel is so iconic
What an era - so glad I managed to get out and see these live.......

Thank you so much for posting this video. Those are unforgetable rally cars which rally fans miss. Especially the sounds are legendary.
Wish we saw more of that k11 micra, that thing looks and sounds amazing
Fabulous! I’d almost forgotten how brutal these things were! Brings back a lot of good memories!
There may not be a ton of power, but man, nothing beats 8 to 9,000 screaming RPMs coming in hot into a hard corner echoing throughout the forest!
It’s 1998, Saturday afternoon, PlayStation is my first console and I’m playing Colin McRae Rally 😅 Great vibes.
This brings back memories out on the stages as a kid watching these and having posters on my wall
The best era of British rallying by far! So many manufacturers involved. The noise!
awesome video wish Duke would re-realiese more of the 1990s British rally championship reviews onto DVD
What a treat! I wish there was more inboard around from these days.
these cars reminds me of my childhood with ps1, thank you
Probably the Best British Championship since the 70's
Fantastic. To me this is the best era ever of the British Rally championship. Anyone still think FWD is boring after watching this? 😅
Glorious footage.
Time to play Rally Championship 2000 again
Brilliant ❤
Excellent again! What’s next? 2.0 WRC or S1600? 😁
Well next Saturday is the 40th anniversary of the Metro 6R4, so that has to be one for sure! In between now and then, who knows ;)

Marvelous
The real golden era of motorsport ❤
Super Touring for the special stage

Had road going version of the megane. Was top spec 2.0 sport. Blew gearbox up within a month, built like they are made of butter
Never knew the Megane had traction control
Wide body Megane👌
Golf 3 running strong!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Now THIS is ASMR 🤩
Tapio Laukkanen and Renault Megane 😊😊😊
Can I hear traction control??
That Megané seems to have it?
Remember Robbie Head barrell rolling the Mégane
He also smash his Clio
@@granitebhoy830 Robbie was awesome, don't think I ever seen him brake
Robbie debuted the Megane Coupe in Donegal - Most beautiful rally car ever built bar none. And Robbie could make her talk !

Thanks for the classification, it's still great to see this footage in clip form, reminds me just how great the British Championship used to be.

Rally of Wales 1995?
How much did these kit cars cost ?

The Astra has to be the best surly😂
Not a biased opinion of course? ;)
that pulsar looks sexy asf
Rien qu une Renault je serait tout le temps sur circuit sa sur un laguna maxi 😂 ❤
I didn´t know the Huyndai Coupe rally car existed, I thought it was only in V-Rally 2
It was the car that saved Hyundai and stopped them being considered a joke.

Hyundai... i still to this day cant get images of crap Hyundais like this 1 out my head
what is a 'kit' car? why are they called like this?
can you buy them in a hobby store and build them at home yourself? :P
no, seriously, why?
