- Finally got a moment - several moments, spread over several days - to discuss my playthrough of #ConquestOfCamelot ... the game is beautiful, amazing, complex story, and the music is astounding... can you guess what part of the game I strongly disliked, however? Find out in the commentary!
As for the combat system, the Saracen is attacking with a series of four blows. Four variations. The first three blows are a signal to what his fourth move will be. On the fourth he leaves himself wide open and if you do the appropriate attack, high or low, you can defeat him fairly quickly. It's kind of a Barbarian Axe system, says the guy who designed it...
Ah, so there _is_ a pattern to the attack that Saracen makes! Good to know! And naturally, knowing who you are, and you taking the time to check out the video, has me very floored and very honored, good sir. I have also pinned your comment!
@@LetsPlaySierraGames Christy re-used my little system in Conquest of the Longbow, my only contrib to that game... but credited...
This was one of the games I owned for my old PC. I spent a LOT of time playing it, and succeeded in finishing it. Great nostalgia! Thank you for your video, great work.
I loved this game back in the day! I've been enjoy replaying these games and recording them, sharing thoughts on them! Like you said, great nostalgia! Especially some of these games that I haven't played on repeat. (KQ, LSL, PQ, I have replayed so many times I have most of those pretty much committed to memory) - but some of these other games I had that never got re-release collections (to make looking up the copy protection sprinkled throughout the game, less troublesome) I've not played as often. So playing this again - while some parts I remembered there were others I clearly didn't (like that damn frozen lake...)
Alright, been waiting on this one. Never seen the game all the way through, and this seems like the perfect way to do it.
The game is truly fun. There's just one part I wasn't a big fan of (the arcade sequences - namely the boar fight, is annoying - but it's the ice... the ice that was unnecessarily long)...
At 16:50 you mention the overhead map being confusing. I remember being slightly confused too when I first played it as a kid, but for me it was more that I was unfamiliar with the mechanics of the interface rather than being confused by the locations. The treasurer and Merlin are in two separate towers. In total, the castle has 5 towers and Merlin is located in the 5th back-most one. Presumably, there must be a hallway underneath the treasury linking the main castle to Merlin’s detached apartment. If you pause the video at 3:56, you can see the castle from behind. Merlin’s apartment is in the shorter detached tower off to the left with the low roof. If you pause at 1:43, Merlin’s tower is the one behind the castle with the low roof to the far right.
Yes! Imagine, first time playing the game - and the way they have Merlin's area not so obvious... And not being able to figure out what you may have missed. It's only because I'd played CoC eons ago, that I remembered Merlin gives us something... So I knew Merlin was SOMEWHERE in the castle, I just couldn't remember HOW to get to him. So yeah, the general overlay of the map was definitely a little confusing in that regard. And I can see as a kid, the mechanics being wonky too. It's different than most Sierra games in that it has quite a bit of arcade sequences too (where you can't save, like the boars, the black knight, etc!) So it was a tougher game (although, easy compared to Codename: Iceman!)
I haven't played this game or heard of it before, but it seems quite nice. I'm amused at the name. They called it conquest, probably to have "quest" in there, since there is no conquering going on. Would "King Arthur's quest" have been a bit too much?
I really enjoyed the commentary you did. I think walkthroughs are still a thing, but I'm not sure. Your videos are already useful for people trying to play the game and getting stuck on puzzles, I think.
King Arthur's Quest would have probably been too close to King's Quest. Undoubtedly they went with Conquest to have 'Quest' somewhere in the title. Seemed to be the theme - except for Leisure Suit Larry, back then for Sierra. Though they'd eventually step away from that with things like Freddy Pharkas... come to think of it, both by Al Lowe! Heh. Perhaps Conquest is in references to conquering the damn arcade sequences... lol
And thank you for the wonderful compliment about the videos!
1:37:18 Crossing the ice isn’t too hard if you use the rose. When you first pick up the rose, Gwenhyver mentions the Message of the Rose notated in the Liber ex Doctrina (it’s copy protection). If you type LOVE IS MY SHIELD on the ice, it creates a whirlwind of rose petals that form a protective barrier and prevents you from falling through. As long as you keep clicking the mouse on the whirlwind as it moves, you’ll make it across the ice fairly quickly and painlessly. I think the crystal heart was thrown in as a backup option if you didn’t get the rose or if you use it too early.
Ah! See this is good to know! I couldn't figure out what the rose was for. I just thought it was symbolic that Lancelot has it in the beginning and the end (clearly a gift from her). I hadn't looked at a walk through yet to see what the rose does. This is pretty cool. May need to load a save game near that blasted lake just to try this!
I tried playing thru this several years ago, but i got stuck on the fight in the old arena. Eventually gave up. It was ok, but had some annoying arcade bits, not as good as Longbow.
This final fight (ruclips.net/video/h3rV1giJW5g/видео.html)? If so, make sure to consume the apple you're given - it helps with strength. Douglas Herring's comment may help you (I took a few tries and got it) - but apparently there's a pattern he mentions: ruclips.net/video/h3rV1giJW5g/видео.html&lc=UgxWZ0WwxUCAb04HXMh4AaABAg&ab_channel=LetsPlaySierraGames (it's also the pinned comment on here).
