    A close family member is a "nutritionist" yet she is overweight, I cringe when we eat there--breaking all my personal rules, and her husband is morbidly obese. I am age 71, a runner, trim and fit, and use Cleveland Clinics Functional Medicine Department for real, actionable advice and care. Thank God they exist.

      Could be why my grandparents lived well into their 90’s and not a health issue at all. Never was on any prescription drugs OR OTC meds. They ate bacon and eggs every morning. Had butter on their veggies. But they didn’t eat sugary junk

    When I was very young I saw a picture of my great grandmother, who was morbidly obese and no longer living. I was horrified and scared this would be my destiny as I got older. Thank goodness I have since learned that does not have to be true!

      I knew a family at our church… the mom, dad and both daughters were both morbidly obese. Their son was fit and a healthy weight. Folks would say that he was blessed to not have his parents fat gene. Well, I observed their food choices at our churches pot luck suppers. He didn’t hit the dessert table, nor did he go back for seconds and thirds on foods. But his siblings and parents did. 🤪

    I'm in my 70s and my son introduced me last year to intermittent fasting and I have learned to love it! I never could diet successfully. But this process has taught me to eat wisely and healthier.
    I've lost my cravings and blood sugar dives! I'm eating less than half of what I did before! And the weight is slowly coming off. But I feel so much better with much less pain and stiffness!

    I went on to O blood group diet - no carbs, no sugar, no dairy. And started 5 km walks, core exercises, cold showers, deep breathing. My excema cleared, plus my acid reflux, bursitis, ulcer, headaches, arthritis and constant bladder infections. My 44 year old son said, "You now remind me of my mother when i was a young teenager." I'm 70.

    I was gaining a lot of weight after a hysterectomy at 38 years old gaining more than 10 pounds a year! I found out last year l, age 51, that I probably had low thyroid and the doctor told me to lose weight by exercising more and low calorie intake. Results: no weight loss, even on very low calories! Total lie! I didn’t have high sugar, but high cholesterol.
    I sought out an Integrated Medicine doctor, who put me on a no carbohydrate, no sugar diet, and I have lost 35 pounds in 10 weeks! Alot of fat was in the breasts and stomach. Eating lots of vegetables and a medium protein at each meal has done it! I was worried about being hungry all the time, like all the other times I would diet. However I found out it as my body turning carbs into sugar snd it overloaded my system. Your video is great snd you should talk more on how our American carbohydrates are processed and the way our bodies store them as fat.
    We were taught to eat s balanced meal of a portion of starch (potatoes, rice or pasta), with a protein ( meat) and vegetables in the plate. Why did this not work as a good meal for Americans?

    I have talked to some friends about how it isn’t so much the quantity of calories that count but the quality for weight loss. I’m like it’s better to eat the avocado and go over calories than to eat ice cream and stay under. But it falls on deaf ears, they just want to ice cream and then complain when the scale doesn’t move. 🙄

    • @AnnTsungMD
      @AnnTsungMD Год назад

      You're absolutely right! The quality of calories plays a significant role in overall health and weight management. Opting for nutrient-dense foods like avocados provides more sustained energy and supports weight loss efforts. It can be frustrating when others prioritize indulgent treats over long-term health goals.

    I come from a long line of overweight/obese women.
    Years ago I watched an episode of Montel Williams reuniting a young set of triplets who had been separated at birth. Two were with their natural mother and one was with his adoptive mother. I guess they were 10-12 years old at the time.
    The natural mother was slim and the adoptive mother was overweight. The children being raised by the slim natural mother were slim and the third triplet being raised by the overweight adoptive mother was also overweight.
    This brought home to me that I didn't inherit obesity from my mother but rather I inherited her poor eating habits!
    It took me a few years but I have lost 150 pounds eating a low carb high healthy fat real food diet (with) intermittent fasting).
    So I'd like to thank you, Dr. Hyman, and share this with you;

I could calculate Kcals and design diets for every disease or protocol. And I made As in those classes, which just means I as paying attention. "You can't exercise yourself out of a bad diet" You also cant supplement your way out of a bad diet!! Food quality matters! Im 48 feel like im 20 eating a meat based diet, ZERO health issues, but genetically am predispostioned for obesity, diabetes, hypertension.... genetics are an excuse!

      I agree re can't out train a bad diet etc. However, genetics can really screw you which they have in my case where I'm prone to stomach fat which I can't seem to shift despite eating pretty healthy and exercising a helluva lot. That said, I'm realising I just need to try harder to achieve the same goal. Oh can't compare yourself to other ppl as we are all so different. Took me years to realise this.

      I’m pretty fit. My dad is 90 and he’s lean and fit for his age. My neighbor who eats crap and blames genetics said to me, “must be nice to have a thin parent and get those good genes”. I laughed because I was adopted. Both my birth parents were fat/obese. My birth father had a heart attack at age 55…. Dr told him he needed to lose weight or his next heart attack would be fatal. He did in fact lose 100 pounds. My birth mom was 5’2” and wore a size 16/18. She was in the obese category. She was always unhealthy. Died at age 64 from cancer. She smoked also. I don’t follow in their footsteps. I learned good eating habits from my adopted parents. They were/are health nuts.

      We are all individuals, biochemically unique. I would have to make a career out of eating citrus in order to get the vitamin C I need from my diet! And a lot of other foods.

      Selfish? People eat what they want to eat. My 77 year old mother is living a successful fasting and clean eating lifestyle with low natural carbs and is slim and trim and functioning better post-stroke than she did before the stroke. She LIVES WITH her OBESE, DIABETIC HUSBAND who has NO INTEREST in the books she reads or nutrition info or in learning how to fast, and their primary care physician is PRO-FASTING so he'd have all the doctor's support he'd need to do this safely and effectively! NOTHING DOING.
      So is she not doing enough just by living in the same house as he is? He's a MESS.
      You can make it your mission to save people, but people have to want to save themselves. There's plenty out there already. I found it and healed my histamine intolerance with Drs Hyman, Ekberg, and Pelz.
