      Girrrlllll, I said the same thing! It takes true art and skill to remain composed, calm, patient, and level-headed when someone is talking about something they no nothing about or saying false things about your character. Being slow to speak is definitely a challenge that I’m actively working to master. All in all, I really loved this interview! Monique is so articulate and intelligent.

      Yes Monique I admired you for a few reasons I'm sure it is hard to make it in the business I'm sure it's hard for a woman in general to make a breakthrough without having to give up your self respect your integrity and you know what else and you're a good-looking woman so if you ever did have to give up you know what don't be hard on yourself baby we women do what we have to do in life but I think you are very good at all that you do you are a good comedian I was going to say you were a good comedian but I know you still are but you don't have to stoop to that level any longer you're now a big-time movie star and you aced that one too I love your beauty and you are a beautiful woman Inside and absolutely outside I think that sexy raspy voice that you have is amazing I'm a woman but I was only just a mom but I was a hard-working mom no child support no husbands paying child support so I went to work as a laborer construction laborer so I think I did good in what I was doing also never did make much money but I did put a roof over mine and the kids said food on their table and clothes on their back even if they did come from the Goodwills so us women we do what we have to do we are strong all of us no matter what race Creed or color we are but the ones of us that are strong we have our self-respect we have our dignity and there are just some things that we won't sell and that is our sole so you keep up the good work girl try to stay out of the racist crap let's all try to move past that what has been done has been done and it's been horrible the black race the American Indian and the Jewish people have had to suffer more than any thank God in most of the world we do not allow such inhumane treatment of any other people and our main concerns and what we need to all be concentrating on is that we never allow Humanity to stoop back into that level of inhumanity for as long as this Earth remains that's what we have to fight for equality for all people stop living in the past all of us start living in the future and to know that we will not allow that type of treatment for any race for as long as this Earth remains God bless you Monique you are absolutely beautiful

    Just listening to her explanation, you can get a feeling of sincerity. I believe her. The truth will always come to light. Her husband's explanation appears straight forward as well. Lee Daniels is not telling the whole truth; he has dressed it in an unfavorable way towards Monique because he can't admit that he was upset and handled things wrong.

    • @memberofthetribe1
      @memberofthetribe1 9 лет назад +10

      I agree with your assessment. Mr. Daniels is an amazing director that has pulled incredible performances out of people that no other director has. (Check out The Paperboy.....I was not well....) I understand that he was instrumental in getting Mo'Nique to where she is and her not acknowledging him during her acceptance speech hurt him. Having said that, he is a grown man, and claims to be a professional. This is something that should have taken place between them behind close doors. Now he's in too deep....and you can't swim out of mud.

    • @Nichelle0099
      @Nichelle0099 9 лет назад +6

      Although I gave the thumbs up to your comment, I am also swayed by the other side to the story. At 5:47, Monique made it clear she was expecting monetary compensation. The statement that they did not pay to promote movies, I feel sure, was confirmation of something Monique already knew. This business calls for a give and take. When they asked what would it take and offered her an upgrade and extra days after the event, I think it was a reasonable offer IF they were willing to include her family too. That would have been a win, win situation because the post oscar offers and checks would have been worth it.

      Mo'Nique won! She beat down one of the most powerful and wealthy trolls in the history of America. And she didn't even have to bytch slap her ass. Yeah - I'm talking to you Oprah. I wish Mo'Nique had a shot at you in the UFC Octagon. You are like the dead elephant in the middle of the road - blocking the progress of everybody who threatens you. But you've also dominated the microphone with 40+ years of nonsense. Beautiful women, smart women, Black women. Black men. You don't advocate for us - so we're rejecting you. Just like we've rejected Candace Owens and other skanks. I think it is time you listen to people - and take time to see the damage you've done. And Oprah, we'll give to your retirement if you need some cash. With your empire crumbling and all - I wanted to just mention that.

      +I Am VidaMari (IamVidaMari) Well I'm up just going to say in regards to your comment, the rich don't try to make others richer the rich want money for themselves now not all of them are like that but I understand the ones that are, money creates a lot of opportunities and so they want as much as they can get. And even if it does say that in the bible there is a lot stated in the bible that people ignore or feel as though they are above that. The bible says no shrimp, but plenty of people eat shrimp. So it's not about what's in the bible or making others richer I think it's them looking out for them, if Oprah sees a good movie she'll want to interview the main cast members so that people who enjoyed the movie will watch her. It's not about others it's about her, and I think that's ok, before we worry about others we should worry about ourselves in my opinion.

I myself wouldn't want other people taking money that could be mine, because money not only secures me but my future children and their children.And if you carefully think about what I've said then you will realize how much sense my comment made. Also by the tone of your comment you seem to be a well off individual when it comes to financial stability, so i would just like to say don't try to mislead people into to trusting all wealthy individuals, wether that's what you mean to do or not, you are. You yourself don't seem like a bad person thoug. Have a nice day.

She was informed that the film could lead to more stardom but maybe didn't believe that it would do so well. She put in a lot of work but was expected to put in more and that it would lead to more prestige and better films. sSo now that her show is cancelled and no money is coming in I think that if she had known she would have gone to that festival.

    Even though I understand, somewhat, where Monique is coming from, what I don't get is: Lionsgate is asking what it would take for her to come to The Cannes Film Festival - I repeat THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. It is not as though they are asking her to go a hick town somewhere overseas that no one has ever heard of, but THE Cannes Film Festival. A Festival MANY in Hollywood would give their right arm to attend and have their movie screened. And Monique saying that no one knew how big the movie would get - well an invitation from The Cannes Film Festival should be a GREAT indication of what was to come, because they do NOT invite just anyone. Whether her obligation towards the movie had been met, going to the Film Festival should have been considered an honor, not an obligation. A huge chance missed.

    I don't think they played the right card on this one. Sometimes, you have to go above and beyond your "contractual agreement", to achieve the success you desire. She might not have gotten "paid" for the trip to France in monetary terms, but she had the upper hand on negotiating the terms of getting a suite for her family, food vouchers, transportation, and maybe a nannie for the kids. Like it or not, Winfrey and Perry are some very powerful people...that you don't want to snub. Cause who's crying now?

      ***** Only time will tell. I think Mo'Nique boldness in making this issue public can cause this to go one or two ways. People will call Lee out for his cattiness or the more probable choice is he will hold a grudge against her until he realizes it's pointless to hold grudges. I hope they both can learn to forgive sooner rather than later.

    She told the same story in every interview . She never switch her storyline. That hurt came from a deep place inside of her. When you speak the truth against powerful people , they always trynna make you look crazy but the truth always comes out. They may not take her words for it but I’m sure someone else will air the same issue. I’m with her on this . She had too long of a career in this business to get disrespected in that sense.

    It sounds to me like Monique was still trying to work her other jobs to continue making money to support her family. The $50,000.00 that she was paid to make the movie could hardly last the average working person one year. In that sense I am not sure I blame her. You have to do whatever it takes to keep money coming in. In her case it was her talk show and her comedy tour that was bringing in the money. Monique is not considered an A lister so she cannot afford to work for free and I don't think I blame her.

      I know I'm about 5 years late on this but...I dont see why she couldn't have gone for a 2-3 days (take the hubby and kids too). Get the upgraded to a suite and first class airfare and just get it over with. Surely she could've taken 2-3 days off from her tour to go to Cannes and promote the film. Maybe I'm naive but I dont see the harm in doing that. She would've gone if they'd paid her (which is against their policy. If she's not willing to play by the 'rules' then she simply has to be willing to accept the consequences. It's just that simple... Just my 2 cents

      @@juanitabarnes996 burnout. She is doing a late night show and a tour as well. What Lionsgate was requesting was above their original request (us promotion). Also this would have been many months after film was done. Fact is Lionsgate were asking a favour, not a contractual obligation (hence they werent going to pay, and didn't sue for breach of contract). And monique basically said no favour for free. Also, it roild have been multiple countries, not just canne, France. Lionsgate/oprah/Perry/Daniels f#cked up by being underprepared, and blamed monique.

    And I say might because as Monique said earlier in this interview at the end of the day Hollywood isn't about to make fat black females stars. While Gabby's career has thrived has she an Academy award nominated* actress starred in another film, matter of fact Jennifer Hudson is an Academy Award WINNING actress where is her major blockbuster movie as the lead.

    Wow!!! Monique is admitting to blowing off Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry, and Oprah Winfrey. Ironically, they are three of the most powerful black people in Hollywood today who are hiring the most black actors and actresses. Sounds like Tyler and Oprah were practically begging her to look out for them, Lee, the movie and her career and not focus on the check so much and she said no. Sidney and Monique shot themselves in the foot b/c I believe so many actresses would've killed to have been in that position. So many life lessons in this story.

    All I have to say is Mo take lessons from Iyanla Vanzat. Remember what happened when she developed a big ego and thought she was being short changed by Oprah? She fell flat on her face. On the other hand look at what happened to Dr Phil. He appears to be very egotistical, however he was patient enough to wait for years for Oprah to give him his own show. Even then, he didn't feel entitled. I feel like Monique is making the same mistake Iyanla did. She thinks she's big enough to make it on her own. Swallow your pride, do shit for free, get paid shit, etc. She honestly has no one to blame for her current position in Hollywood but herself. I understand why she thinks that she was contractually done but the movie wasn't even out yet.The reason why she made 50 grand for the movie was because it was a low budget movie. no one thought that it would be a big film even with Monique, Mariah, Oprah on it. Nothing wrong with the price.but singers (and yes I understand they are completely different) have a song/album coming out and they go to great lengths to go promote it in the US as well as overseas. All of this is out of their pocket in some way whether they are being paid for it or it is recouped via contract.imagine if Mariah, Oprah, Gab, Lee, and everyone involved in the movie decided to decline promoting overseas. would the movie be as Oscar buzzed as it had been? In my opinion them going and promoting it was the reason how she got her awards. you cant just go make a movie and decide not to promote it. contractually or not. Like they said, winning would make her movie price go up. basically I see it like Hey you made 50k on this, you did some grunt ass work, but I gotchu, I'm a writer, I make films, I'll call you and you'll get paid. It's something that she wanted to get into; breakout and be a big film actress.

      Ricia Love She wasn't paying anything the studio pays for all that. Plus if you heard her she said they were willing to upgrade her hotel and let her stay a couple extra days... Instead of asking for money she should have asked for extra ticket for the rest of the fam. lol

      I don't think she was wrong for asking to be paid in money instead of a hotel room...who says to you, I want you to leave your paying gigs to go work for me overseas and I will pay you with a few extra days on the Hotel room...WTF?

      @Loveigh Ladey yesss, and she's at her grandmother's funeral, asking questions in a radio interview! She couldn't take off 3 days to devote her time to the family for passing of her grandmother, wow!
      But yet she's questioning Monique and Sidney integrity!

    Lee Daniels said "We do not pay for promotions." That is fine for me. We can call the payments something else so long as I get my money. Right?

    After listening to this Monique seems difficult as hell. Any other actor would jump at the chance to go to Cannes and she just straight refused to go. She screwed herself over. This was the first movie of this caliber she had ever done. She should've jumped through whatever hoops they wanted her to go through until she found herself in a position of power where she could do whatever and ask for whatever she wanted. She overplayed her hand and lost.

    I’m a white boy and I feel for Monique. I add “white boy” because you don’t have to be of a certain race to feel for somebody. She talks from the heart. She speaks her peace. She’s straight up, right to your face, how I like it and doesn’t care who she offends. She’s real. If more people were like her in the business, it would be a better world to live in but unfortunately a lot of people have sold themselves to the devil. Monique’s story remains the same .

      Now we see the conversation about inequality coming back up💡 Strikes for months and a black actress breaking down during her interview💡 I've always supported Monique because I grew up watching her💡 She deserved to be paid what legends get💰💰💰
