Why does the ball drop on New Year's Eve?

Have you ever been counting down on New Year’s Eve and wondered why you’re watching a ball slowly drop on a track? Well, it’s actually a great story. Years ago, time balls were navigators' way of knowing where they were and finding their way to where they wanted to be. So, now the time ball on New Year’s Eve is our tradition to reflect on where we are, dream of where we want to be, and set our course. Happy new year!
