I was so blessed to have my step dad Iceman. I loved him so much. Words can not explain how much I miss him. He died when I was around 13. I was so hurt cause he was my daddy. He raised me. He saw my first step and one thing I'll never forget, is one time I ask can I call him dad but he said no cause he didn't want to disrespect my real dad but at that time I didn't care for my biological father. He always lied to us. Telling us he was going to do this and that but never did and my mom and iceman would be so hurt for us. I know this comments gonna get lost in the other hundreds of comments but my mom was single and my dad married another woman after cheating on my mom with her and my little sister and I always felt like step children. My sister especially. I was a little older like 13, 14 at the time so I didn’t care as much. But my sister was like 3, and 4 until now. Now I’m 21 and shes 12. My stepmom for holidays would always buy her kids really nice electronics and games and nice new clothes. My sister would get a coloring book and my step moms maternal daughters hand me downs. My stepmom always made my sister and step sister share their birthday bc it was in the same month. This wasn’t to save money, my dad makes good money. They did it just because. My step sister could invite as many kids as she wanted, and my sister was allowed to invite one friend even tho she had more than that. Little actions they constantly did made my sister feel very divided from the others and it’s sad when adults feel the need to make it known who’s kid is who’s.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I give so many kudos to you!!! Not only being able to treat a child that is not biologically yours but love that child the same as any child you actually birthed says A LOT about you. My father met my 2 oldest sisters when they were 5 and 8 and when they were 7 and 10 my sister was born and then 2 years later I was born (biologically my fathers both of us) and I never saw or felt like my father treated myself and my sister any differently than my oldest sisters but as we all got older both of them had said that never once did they feel like they weren’t his daughters. My father walked both of them down the isle, even while their bio dad was still alive && around, they have said numerous times that my father was more of a father to them then their actual father. Even now as my oldest sisters are in their mid-late 30s they still have a close relationship. Now that I’ve gone on and on about that my point of it all is that I think it takes a very special person to come into a child’s life and there be no difference in the love you have between children, I get people adopt and they love those kids just as much as the could/do their own so I deff do not want to take that away from anyone!! I’ve also seen how bad it can be when the non bio parent treats their own differently and you’re 100% right! Children deserve to feel loved and wanted and not like they aren’t as good or enough for anyone. That first 6mins made me not only like you even more but have that much more respect for you

And it is hurtful bc his kids hate him and moved away from him bc he is so controlling and manipulative and he raised us to be better than them and have manners and shit but they always seem to come 1st. And there’s nothing I can do about it. I am so happy that my step dad took care of my sister and I like we were his daughters. All of his siblings call us our nieces pretty much everyone in our small town knows us as his baby girls and not to mess with us and when it came to my sisters funeral they all showed up and supported us even though my mom and step dad broke up 6 years ago.

That's what I love the most about my dad's family. He isn't either of my brothers biological dad but they were so young when he met my mom n he helped raise them and even after my parents divorce when I was 11 to this day to my dad and his family my brothers are still his sons are still their grandsons/nephews/cousins.

About 5 years ago, my mom dated this guy and he was pretty cool. Gave me gifts when he came to our house, always spending time with me, and overall treating me well. Then, about a year into their relationship, he started to change. Started arguments with my mom, accused her of cheating whenever she's around another guy, and just being toxic with her. Around this time, whenever I would hang out with him, he would bring up my mom's "cheating" and start to badmouth her. So, Whenever he left to go back to his house, I would go to my mom and parrot what he said. Immediately, she left him since she was already done with the relationship.

My stepdad was very abusive while I was growing up. He also blatantly played favorites with my brother and sister. He has apologized, but the abuse I endured from age 5-19, caused way too much trauma.
My mom never intervened, but my abuela did and fought to get me out of that situation until her death.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I give so many kudos to you!!! Not only being able to treat a child that is not biologically yours but love that child the same as any child you actually birthed says A LOT about you. My father met my 2 oldest sisters when they were 5 and 8 and when they were 7 and 10 my sister was born and then 2 years later I was born (biologically my fathers both of us) and I never saw or felt like my father treated myself and my sister any differently than my oldest sisters but as we all got older both of them had said that never once did they feel like they weren’t his daughters. My father walked both of them down the isle, even while their bio dad was still alive && around, they have said numerous times that my father was more of a father to them then their actual father. Even now as my oldest sisters are in their mid-late 30s they still have a close relationship. Now that I’ve gone on and on about that my point of it all is that I think it takes a very special person to come into a child’s life and there be no difference in the love you have between children, I get people adopt and they love those kids just as much as the could/do their own so I deff do not want to take that away from anyone!! I’ve also seen how bad it can be when the non bio parent treats their own differently and you’re 100% right! Children deserve to feel loved and wanted and not like they aren’t as good or enough for anyone. That first 6mins made me not only like you even more but have that much more respect for you
I always was vocal about men I didn't like , and I always ended up being right about them being assholes ,but being a child nobody takes you seriously or really respects your opinions your taught to just shut up in a way and it sucks it builds resentment towards the parent in the long run because it feels like you arent respected or loved enough I'm 22 now and honestly if people took me seriouly when I was younger I would have enjoyed my childhood alot more.🤷♀️
My mom was engaged to a guy who made all our lives HARD. He was horrible, ignorant, petty, and disrespectful. The instant he got into trouble guess who went to court to testify against him for justice and karma? ME.✋🏻 We can live in peace and feel safe now that he's gone. Beyond grateful.

I’m forever a step child along with my 2 sisters and no matter how much we try or do my step dad’s real kids ALWAYS come 1st. And it is hurtful bc his kids hate him and moved away from him bc he is so controlling and manipulative and he raised us to be better than them and have manners and shit but they always seem to come 1st. And there’s nothing I can do about it. We come first to my mom and that’s the only thing that matters to us but sometimes she doesn’t say shit when he is scolding us and feels like she puts him before us. And that is why I’m in the active duty military bc I just can’t stand to live with them or even be on the same city/ state as them unless I’m visiting.

during the story i was thinking the whole thing about him not wanting his iron to be burned was really annoying but maybe he was just protective about his stuff or he had OCD but when he started talking to your brother crazy and being horrible to a child that was really messed up and outta line. he got what he deserved.
I am so happy that my step dad took care of my sister and I like we were his daughters. All of his siblings call us our nieces pretty much everyone in our small town knows us as his baby girls and not to mess with us and when it came to my sisters funeral they all showed up and supported us even though my mom and step dad broke up 6 years ago.
It takes a special person to love somebody else's child. I love the fact that you said you don't use the phrase "step child, parent". Growing up I remember being treated differently by the woman my dad would date or whatever I showed them where the door was; (I am a real daddy's girl.) on the other hand my mothers husband loves us like his own. That's what I love the most about my dad's family. He isn't either of my brothers biological dad but they were so young when he met my mom n he helped raise them and even after my parents divorce when I was 11 to this day to my dad and his family my brothers are still his sons are still their grandsons/nephews/cousins.

About 5 years ago, my mom dated this guy and he was pretty cool. Gave me gifts when he came to our house, always spending time with me, and overall treating me well. Then, about a year into their relationship, he started to change. Started arguments with my mom, accused her of cheating whenever she's around another guy, and just being toxic with her. Around this time, whenever I would hang out with him, he would bring up my mom's "cheating" and start to badmouth her. So, Whenever he left to go back to his house, I would go to my mom and parrot what he said. Immediately, she left him since she was already done with the relationship.

It’s true.... being just the STEP CHILD is bs ... my parents were married for 18 years and my dad cheated on her and got with my step mom.... and my step mom put on a good front until she got to comfortable. She would always get her kids nice things and us barley anything . She would even take them shopping but keep it a secret . She is a alcoholic and one day she deadass tried fighting me when my dad was out of town at my great grandma’s funeral 😒 my dad still hasn’t left her so I moved out . Because man no one deserves to be treated like less (at the time I was 16 and my sister was 14... her kids were 15 and 17)and to feel like there’s competition with people that live with you sucks especially when there all girls .... the sad part is my dad was main one bringing in money . But he would never do anything for us and more for his other family 😐... but it does get better once your on your own doing your own thing . That’s when you really start living..Everything YOU’VE worked for has such a deeper meaning to you because you did it yourself and that has to be the best feeling ever.
