You've been dating your mobster-turned-bartender ex-con girlfriend for a while. One night, when you're sleeping over at her place, you awaken in the middle of the night to find her wide awake, staring despondently out the window. She tells you to go back to sleep, but how can you leave her alone when she's got that pained, empty look in her eyes?

Nightshade's notes: Back by popular demand! There were so many requests for a sequel to the former mafioso bartender audio that I went back to Timeraft to see if they had any inspiration for a part 2 - and I'm so glad I did, because I love how real and raw this script is. I hope you all love the continuation of the story as much as I do. It was a real pleasure to be able to perform this.

She's had a rough life. Any way I can make her happier is good. And I really like how, despite the older woman tag, she never tries to talk down to the listener, or infantilize him. It feels good to see their relationship depicted this way.

Honestly, I agree, too! That's something I love about the character and the script. Mutual respect is important in any relationship, I think, and if being older makes one party feel superior to the other, then... well, it's probably not good to be in a relationship with a person whose opinion you don't respect, you know? But this feels like a real, healthy relationship. One of the many reasons I loved performing this script. ❤️ Thank you for the great comment!
I honestly cant really explain how much I love this character. This is the "girl with a sadness in her eyes you only see in 19th century art" thing yes, but even the little things.
The earnest way she puts together the sentences. You even mention vehicle models, and she implys dreams of a large family. The naming of specific places we've never heard of but seem so familiar. It's quaint and very real. I like it a lot.
The realistic portrayal of an unlikely relationship like this is honestly and weirdly enough one of the most creative audios I’ve heard on the platform. Very well done. If another part is planned, I think the rift between her and her father should be tackled.
I would've never broken up with her if I'd known she was in the mafia. TY

Serious props to you and Timeraft! The original was excellent in its own right, but this is even better. Which is what should be expected from skilled writing and acting - new iterations flesh out the character more, pulling the details of their nature more into focus as the character's development unfolds (Hollywood, please take notes, I'm so tired of stiff character arcs).
Top tier role embodiment, as usual, Nightshade! You truly excel at communicating the layers and waves of emotions characters are experiencing.
Also, serious shoutout for the attention to the struggles of ex-cons trying to make it with the deck stacked against them.

Love this character, she has a lot of soul.
This was an absolute masterpiece in writing and VA work. The love and meticulous detail poured into every detail in the script is astounding and I love the eloquence in the writing. The words flow like poetry and is oh so pleasing to listen to. The sheer joy in the speaker's voice from having what is in her mind the perfect relationship is contrasted so well by the melancholy and realization that this may just be a dream and all that comes through in the stellar voice work on display here.
Words can't express how impressed I am listening to this. Great work from all the parties involved!

That aside, Timeraft just pulled all the stops for this one. The characterization, the prose, the emotion were all dialed up to 11. They're just a master of their craft. And your performance was wonderful as ever. You managed to convey that melancholic weight to all the speaker's words with such gravitas that I felt transported to this scenario. I really felt like I wanted to comfort her, reassure her... And that ending 👀👀 the way you whispered "time is on your side. I'll always be here" was equally sweet and emotive. 😭💜

I’m going to have to look at Timeraft’s scripts, this is hitting most of my favorite tropes and traits in a story
Timeraft has such a wide range of ability, from serious and emotional to silly and fun, but I've found there's always an underlying depth to their characters and situations. I absolutely adore their scripts, and I highly recommend that everyone check them out. You'll definitely see me doing more of them in the future.

Something I’ve said to people I love before, there is no “deserve”. We all deserve better and worse at the same time. The only thing that matters is what you want and what you need. You only get a finite number of moments between here and death, and if you can find a way to spend as many of them happy as possible then you’re living well.
That's a good point. And we are never an accurate judge of our own mistakes, I think, especially in retrospect. Learning from them so as not to make them again is one thing, but trying to punish yourself? It's just a bad idea. Each person in this world needs to take care of themself, I think. We can never judge what we "deserve", because as you say, deserving is not a real thing. Thank you for saying so 🩷

I love mature individuals. And I'm not talking about age.
I really like this series. And I really like her.
And I could imagine myself with someone like her. Maybe someone like her is the only one I could ever imagine being with. Why? Because she is real. This is a real relationship for the sake of relationships, and not for the sake of a beautiful wrapper.
It really made me feel emotions. Timeraft has written a great script again. And you have breathed life into it again. Thank you both for these wonderful feelings.

Once again, you and I have similar thoughts. I said something very similar to Timeraft when I read the final script. It feels like a real relationship. That's a really hard thing to portray in a 15-20 minute audio, and probably even more so with two characters that have such different backgrounds, but I definitely feel like these two are a real couple. She's real, and flawed, and her struggle is relatable. And I'm so glad I had the opportunity to bring her to life.

This was an incerdibly nice surprise, wasn't expecting a sequel to this one but very glad to get it. Was actually incredibly paranoid at first because I read the title when I was half asleep and thought we'd broken up with her 😢 soooooo glad that was just me being tired. Amazing work as always, I love the emotion you manage to bring and I also just really like this character as a whole. I really hope we can help her to heal and realize we don't need things just her, and hopefully we can make her happy forever. 👍
I know, the title is confusing, I apologize for that! I still can't think of a better way to put it, though! Former mafia girlfriend still sounds like it could be talking about a former girlfriend, and I don't want to add a lot of words and make the title too long and unwieldy. That talk of her fantasies was already nice. But it wasn't her wildest fantasy of getting married that got me. It was when she specifically mentioned the idea of her dad forgiving her enough to be there on her most special day that did.
"We can't have that Instagram-perfect life." Perfection is unrealistic - and, worse, it's often boring - anyway.
And that final reminder that she perceives time and the future differently than the listener because she's lived long enough to see her own future much more than the listener...it makes me wonder how this will go.
But if they're going to weddings and sharing a bed...I can hope for both of them, too.

You're not wrong. If a friend of mine told me they were dating sometime who used to be in the mafia, I'd have some concerns for them. But I guess I do also like to think that people should be given the chance to change, repent their mistakes, and live an honest life.

Oh, I see what you're saying. I don't *think* this character really has that kind of enemy. She was in prison for a long time, lost any power she may have once earned. She's not a threat to anybody and not close to any of her old contacts. But I could understand not wanting to take the risk.

Oh yes, I like older women.
Ever have a feeling that wakes you out of a sound sleep? I did. I blinked. I yawned. I reached out...but she wasn't there. I'm an active sleeper, so I guess I rolled far enough that she'd been just out of reach. She was sitting up, the moonlight playing across her features. She really was beautiful...even though she argued with me every time I told her. Bleary eyed and half asleep, I must have been something of a comic image to her as I pawed around in search of her warmth. Her gentle smile never quite reached her eyes, sadly. It didn't happen often, but now and again she'd sit like this, watching the night sky. She had history, and that history had created dark, still places within her. I did what I could, in my own ham-handed way, to break her out of her dark studies when they came along. Most of the time I was successful...Hell, I think the first time we went dancing she smiled and laughed more in an hour than than she had in the whole time I'd known her. I'd never seen her in a dress before- just dark pants, dark shirts- but she looked like a million bucks when we walked into the dance hall. Hair just so, makeup perfect, and heels that helped show off a great set of legs. I think some people recognised her; we got a good table with a minimum of grief. She laughed when I told her I didn't have a clue how to dance the way other couples were swirling across the wide floor. "C'mon buster", she said, not batting an eye. "Dancing is easy." Turns out, with her it was. I was on top of the world, with a princess on my arm as we danced the night away. Now here we are, months later. Every day with her the sun is brighter, i swear. But the nights? Sometimes the nights weigh on her. So I do what I seem to have a real knack for: I listen. I hold her while she tells me her fears and worries, her hopes and dreams. I let her wear herself out, venting those negative thoughts until she finally smiles softly, shakes her head and tells me I gotta be dumb to be with her. A guy I work with said the same thing once.......Once. I figured I'd get fired for slugging the big mook, but the foreman heard him say it and stepped in. He was just as big as the other guy, and that Marine Corps tattoo on his forearm wasn't just for show. He jabbed the guy in the belly with his clipboard as he talked, backing him across the dock to a different truck that needed loading. "Ain't no guy on this shift gonna talk about no other guy's girl, or so help me he'll be hittin' the bricks. Savvy?" Needless to say I didn't tell her about it, but somehow I got a feeling she knew....but I digress. She was begining to relax, my touch soothing her. I lay there a while, listening to her soft breathing as she drifted back into sleep. Something she said stuck in my head then. A white dress and a big church wedding? Hmm. This bears thinking on.
