This 36-minute video lesson explores an in-depth look at the Menuet in D Minor BWV Anh. 132 from Clavierbüchlein der Anna Magdalena Bach (Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach). The second Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach was compiled by J.S. Bach and published in 1725. Areas of focus in this tutorial include developing a beautiful touch and tone, creating an artistic approach to the piece from the first day of study, melodic shaping, interpretation (including varying interpretation on the repeats), long lines, ornamentation (including several options for creating contrast through ornamentation on the repeats), baroque stylistic elements, and many other concepts to help you become as efficient as possible in your practice sessions.

In singing we were taught to sing the repeats slightly differently as well: dynamics, emphasis, sometimes slightly different phrasing; that is, if we take a quick "catch breath" the first time at the end of a phrase, a slightly longer pause between that phrase and the next one might be in order on the repeat. If we sang the section forte the first time, mezzo piano might be appropriate the second time.
In Bach, we can often play strongly the first time through, then repeat softly for contrast. Adding ornaments the second time is certainly in keeping with Baroque ideals, as long as they are carefully chosen and in good taste.

Great video-Josh offers many options for ornamentation.
Search for J.S. Bach's Ornament Table at pennuto or squarespace. The slide (Schleifer in German- see below.
CLASSY PITCH - J.S.Bach's Ornamentation Table- see that video where idem is discussed at no. 6. Josh suggests an idem as one possibility for an ornament at end of the piece- 3rd beat pickup to the last measure. This is a great piece.
The slide (Schleifer in German, Coulé in French, a musical ornament often found in baroque musical works, but used during many different periods. Itinstructs the performer to begin two or three scale steps below the marked note and "slide" upward-that is, move stepwise diatonically between the initial and final notes

Thank you Josh for another motivating, energizing tutorial! You mention a couple of books with tables of ornamentations, but I could not quite catch the names. Can you add them please? 🙏

Si estuviera subtitulado también en español me suscribiria. Parece interesante, pero una pena limitar el universal lenguaje de la música por la rigidez de un concreto idioma y su torre de babel. Se trata solo de subtitular. Poco es eso
