I definitely want to see you use paint pens to make that back side of the page work! You may think your page is a mess, but I LOVE it! This book is on my Amazon wish list, which my family usually peruses around Christmas time. I couldn't justify buying it for myself with all the ones I currently have, but hey, if I receive it for a gift, then I'm golden, lol! Happy Birthday month!
Happy Birthday! Mine was on the 10. 😃 I am not into colouring books but I love how your cake turned out. I think for a birthday cake it is more than ok to be so colourful.
Oh happy birthday, I know so many people born in October. Libra flocks together, haha! I hope you had a lovely day. Mine is on the 21st so another week or so.
I'm not really into colouring books (probably because I suck at adult colouring lol) but I do enjoy watching people do them, I did notice how flat looking it was when the markers were used but wow did it all come to life when the pencils made an appearance! I actually really loved that deep indigo background too, made everything pop in the end, lovely book and video! Thank you! :D
I am happy with how it turned out in the end, though for a while I was regretting my colour choices, haha! I think colouring books are so useful for learning about colour palettes, which translates into other art, so they're quite a valuable tool! But really I have just always loved colouring in, and probably always will. ❤
We stand for space cakes xD I do love the images of that book and would not paint them afraid to ruin all that gorgeous library... Lovely page and I do hope you paint mor ☺️
The hardest bit is starting a page (or indeed the book), as I think these things too - what if I ruin it? To which my answer is: cover it with paint pens and glitter! 😂
Designs like some of the more intricate ones kinda boggle my mind. I wish I come up with such things. My jaw dropped in awe when you painted the background. 😮
Once I painted that first stroke on the background, I was committed, haha! I am glad it turned out, lol. And yes she has some amazingly intricate designs! 💗
I like Johanna's illustrations, they're amazing. I'm trying to draw more things from my own everyday life. I don't do colouring in and prefer to make my own paintings and drawings in my art journals. Have you looked at 'Draw Every Little Thing" by Flora Waycott? She comes from England and is currently living here in Australia. I bought the book to help me find inspiration in my every day, ordinary life. So I could bring it into my art work. Jo's work is pretty amazing and prolific. I really love her illustrations. I'm going to see if I can find out more about her so thanks for the intro Becky. I wanted to offer a different perspective to the conversation. Love your content as always. Rachelle, Gold Coast 🐚🌊
Thank you for the book recommendation! I have added it to my wishlist - it looks interesting. I mostly do things in sketchbooks and journals too, but I do have a soft spot for colouring books for the times when I am tired or uninspired and just want to add colour and not have to think, haha! That Draw Every Little Thing looks like a nice way to get some inspiration. 🙂❤
Becky, we can't see it in RealLife, but on screen, this is a joyous, amazing, sparkly Happy Birthday picture. The whole thing just sings out, 'It's my birthday!' - balloons and all of it'. So yup, I'm agreeing with the previous comments! 😊 Edit to add: I love that ink!!! And of course, I had to go and look for it. On Amazon France, it's €11.67 while I can get in via my local art shop for €7.60! It'll have to go onto my wish list, though, as my No-Buy continues.
Final comment from me the picture turned out great! I haven’t used alcohol markers in ages, but I recall to achieve depth to my coloring I generally used three different markers for each color ie light, medium and dark for each color, and I had to switch between the three when coloring to archive depth and interest. Hope that makes sense! 😅
I do that with pencils as well - I would with markers but I don't often have a light, medium and dark so one day I will have to look for one of those big sets with lots of colour variation, but I am trying to use up some of my old pens first, haha.
That was a brave way to start the book!! 😅 I bought it after colouring in one of the freebie pages which I really liked. It’s a feel-good book so even if I only colour in a few pages it’s worth having 😊
Starting a book is always the hardest part, haha! I am really liking this particular one, I think she has drawn some amazing designs and it has a lot of variety. I hope you enjoy your book. ❤
@@BeckyTregear I actually paused your video, ran and ordered it and then came back! LOL... I already got like 4 books today, my husband will disown me! As long as I get custody of the pencils and books - LOL
I sometimes will scan in a portion of a busier piece, enlarge and print it on watercolor paper for personal painting, not resale or sharing. (Fair use in the US). Or I will draw pieces of the books larger and paint. Love the space cake.
Johanna can’t win. I remember reading some reviews for Worlds of Wonder and people complained there was too much white space, now the one review you read says this book is too complicated!!! 🤣
I know, right? One review I read said she was drawing the pictures for herself and not for her audience, and I was thinking well of course she is, and why wouldn't she do that. Trying to please an audience is instant creative death, and someone will always complain, no matter what. 😱
@@BeckyTregear I probably should have fleshed out my response a little because as brief as it is it sounds argumentative. I might just be a lover of watercolor, that is possible but I wish I could add a couple photographs here. In those tiny spaces of detailed pages pencils don’t have room to blend so the color can look flat, and pens lay down one color and look flat too. Watercolor comes to life! I know everyone has their favorite mediums. Watercolor is mine. And to me it is sad when people don’t try it and watch the magic happen, even in tiny detailed spaces! Love!
I'll never understand these adult coloring books. To my mind people would get the same busy result by just scribbling on paper then coloring in the scribble. Adult coloring books are easy to busy too be artistic
@@BeckyTregear oh I have. A kind lady have me one when I was in hospital to pass time. I hated it. To each their own, but to answer your question of is it for you my answer is a previously stated. As for the scribing; I think kids today call that neuron art or some such silliness. We called it scribbling.
I’m about to watch the video. This is the first flip through for me for this book. Thanks for sharing!
I love the picture you coloured. It's full of joy and sparkle. Have a great week, Becky.
Thank you, and you too! 😊
Oh I love her coloring book style and design, Very nice coloring book.
Yeah I really like this one! ❤

its a very colourful page 😀 the bleed through is why i prefer using only one sided pages withcolouing books
Yes, one side means a lot more options!
I like your picture. I am definitely adding this book to my wish list.
It's a good one!
You did a beautiful job, so inventive!
Thank you! In this case, necessity was the mother of invention, as I didn't like it to begin with, and needed to fix it ASAP! 😂

watercolor is great in Johanna’s books, imo. It doesn’t have to be pencils or pens.
I didn't like watercolour as much, at least on large areas of the pages. But I might try again with them. 🙂
