Episode 2: IP-led Local Initiative to Mitigate Climate Change

The Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) is one of the innovative approaches to forest conservation. It encourages the conservation of the forests while recognizing its economic and cultural value. It is especially helpful for the protection and conservation of ancestral domains and the communities that depend on it.
Since 2017, we have been working with the Xavier Science Foundation, our grantee, to protect and conserve the forests and forest biodiversity, and restore the ecosystem services of Mt. Kalatungan through the Enhancement of Community Capacity for Sustainable Ecological Protection and Economic Development Phase Two Project (EcoSEED-2 Project). Together, we have been working with the Bantay sa Yutang Kabilin (BYK). BYK is a local initiative of forest guard volunteers, organized within the Indigenous Peoples communities of Mt. Kalatungan. They protect, conserve, and manage biodiversity and forest landscapes within their ancestral domains.
