I wanted to give you the biggest hug at the start of this video but so glad your decluttering helped you feel least overwhelmed. I haaate doing dishes, but last month found a good tip of never going to bed with a dirty sink. It’s crap to begin with but one month on I have never had to tackle the usual built up mountain of dishes I always left myself. Filling the sink as I cook dinner and cleaning as I go has helped me so much. I love not having that huge chore in my life anymore and hoping I can keep it up. And pass it on to anyone who hates it too! ❤
this is going to be the biggest hill for me to climb this year, but I really really hope that I can make this a reality for myself!!!
Maybe I should try this...absolutely something I struggle with! I hate washing dishes, pots, pans, silverware, etc!
I also had a kindle case issue - I just got a fold over case like you. I love it but I ordered the wrong size! I couldn’t return and was ready to buy another, but ultimately I rigged a solution by removing the interior case and sticking it in with command strips 😅 Now I get to feel proud of my little diy when I read my kindle!

First of all, thank you for the dopamine hit. 😅 Secondly, how did I not know that about the kindle ads?! As a long time kindle owner I agree with the decision to keep the case for traveling when you have to put it in a bag, so the screen doesn’t get scratched. But I use mine at home without a case. Thirdly, thank you for always keeping it real.

Keep the kindle case, it is very useful if you are travelling to make sure the screen doesn't get scratched up

For the shoes, you could probably do a patch on the boots with the holes and there’s leather paint that you could use on the white shoes for a refresh.
For the kindle case, absolutely keep it for when you go out with it so it’s more protected.
I totally think the white shoes can be saved too! if the material around the sole isn't leather, would gently wiping it with a Mr Clean Magic eraser help?
@calicofloof the thing is.... it's kind of started chipping off and yellowing, so I might take part of the advice of the person above and get some paint and just touch them up in that way LOL the bottom is hard plastic so I think it would be fairly easy to find an appropriate paint for it
Literally just had that kindle dilemma of wanting to get a clear case, stickers, pop socket, etc.!! but I’m keeping the case I have because I like it and I don’t need things for aesthetic reasons so I loved seeing your thought process!

Kindle based comment: I say keep the case, it’ll be perfect to protect your kindle when travelling. Plus you’ve been enjoying “raw dogging” your Kindle so you can enjoy that. Also, I totally relate to obsessing and thinking of things your brain tells you need to buy. I couldn’t stop thinking about buying winter slippers this week, so made myself go into my wardrobe and find the ones I own and actually use those. Our brains are the best saleswomen/men!

Woooo save that money! I think what I learned with you being on a no buy but also wanting something is finding a way to make that happen without spending. That was pretty impressive that you were able to get the kindle ad free without paying! True, it’s $20 bucks but it’s purchases that amount that add up. We tell ourselves it’s that a steal! And then we just keep doing that over and over.

I use my kindle naked but just have a slim leather / felt case it slides into for travel or if I want throw it in my bag and go out so that it’s protected. BTW I’m slightly jealous of the colour of your kindle, I love it 😁

Make sure you don’t declutter things that will lead to you needing to buy more things that are necessities. I’ve noticed a lot of people in the decluttter and minimalist video making realm tend to get rid of things that they will eventually need which leads to more consumerism. And don’t buy converse they are terrible for your feet! Lol

I'm amazed how you got the ad free! I didn't even realise that could be switched later after purchase. I'm so glad you got ad free, it is so worth it. I used to lean my kindle up against things but the power button is on the bottom so would often get nudged and i would accidentally turn it off while setting it up or turning the page so I eventually bought a small phone stand to use with it.
As someone who ate gluten free for 10 years, because my family has coeliacs disease and intolderances etc, I encourage people only to cut it out fully if there is a clear medical reason why none can be ingested as otherwise you can lose the ability to digest it. It took me a year during covid to reintroduce wheat. Pretty sure that, when I cut it out as a teenager, I just had IBS due to stress but my family assumed it was wheat intolerance or coeliacs disease.
yeah I'd say I'm low gluten definitely not 100% gluten free anymore!

It's also wild that they want you to pay to not have ads on a device you paid for. Way to go asking them to remove them and Akash making it happen for you.
You might be able to revive the white heals with a magic eraser if you did want to keep those around. Also - I don't think a cobbler can fix those docs so I'd give them a proper funeral. They died with honor!

When I’m having a buy urge I like to write down what I want on a list so it feels validated and like I won’t forget. That way the thought can safely leave my head.
I usually do that too, but this time it just would not leave my head😭😭
Ooo that just brought back a memory from like 6 years ago, back when I had no money and very few clothes I had a huge word document with images of all the clothes and shoes I liked but couldn’t afford, it made it feel like in some way I did have them and I could look at my collection of pretty things. Might have to bring it back, I’d forgotten about that and it might stop me from buying things now
Gluten free diets are *hard*. There's no one flour to replace wheat flour, so many options and mixes. You can make excellent waffles with mostly coconut flour though! I hope you have fun using up stuff in your pantry❤ I feel inspired to do a pantry challenge now! There's some stuff in there I'd like to use up.

I’ve had a kindle for years and have never used a case. I’ve put a pop socket on it to help holding it but never had a case. They are so durable they don’t need one!! Promise! Stay strong!!
Also I’ve traveled internationally/taken it to the beach/ planes trains automobiles/ and never had an issue!

i’m sure you’ve maybe already thought of this, but since you don’t like your wardrobe and are also in a no buy year you may could take the pieces you’re the most unhappy with and take them to a local reputable (as in not a scam) clothing exchange? or you could list them in a local no buy group, and for every article of clothing you get rid of you can replace it with one thing from the no buy group as well? that way you still aren’t spending money AND you aren’t ADDING clutter (cause you’re trading 1-for-1)!
I think I've decided my little bonus challenge/project for the year will to be building a dialed in capsule wardrobe and then my goal for next year will be to slowly thrift or buy all the pieces in my newly (and deeply thought out) wardrobe !!
You can use tapioca flour to deep fry chicken!
My ears perked when you said new Zealand, my family lives there's and I'm going in Feb! Idk when you're going on your trip but I always bring more crappy clothes so I can kinda toss them if I need more weight/room in my luggage on the way home. So if you think you'd wear them on the trip but throw them away at home then bring them and junk them before you go home 😊
I'm actually going to be moving there in about 5 years!! I'm doing a lot of decluttering now to make that across-the-globe move a little easier :)
I put myself on a budget and am also having Kindle-related issues lol. I have a refurbished Kindle from 2016 and I've been so tempted to buy a new Kindle Paperwhite because it's slightly bigger and the screen is brighter. But the one I have really is fine, I just need to read with it in better lighting conditions.
girl the kindle convo - it's like you live in my brain! bought the kindle, love it, had the ads one - upgraded to the no ads and I think it was mayyybe worth it (but only if the book has a cool cover) lol. HOWEVER I did not get a case and dropped it and broke the side so now there's duct tape which is not ~~~**aesthetic**~~

A "best buy" date for kimchi makes no sense. Kimchi is a fermented product. The only thing that will happen is the flavor gets stronger and funkier. When it's "aged," it's best for kimchi fried rice!

I will sayyyyy, I wore converse in middle school. and once they all got holes in them I had the same thought- they are uncomfortable. why would I get another pair? So I didn't for 13 years. Well, this year I decided to try them to see the hype...and idk what the brand has done but they're comfier than my vans! I bought two high top pairs this year this year.
When you, Declutter, your shoes, you should put all the different kinds of shoes you have together in piles, so you can see how many you have. For example, a pile of boots, a pile of heels, a pile of flats, etc. It seems like you have a lot of boots. I try to take an inventory of my pantry, refrigerator, and freezer monthly. Probably only happens about three times a year though.😅

Always love your videos, Grace. I tried asking Amazon customer service via chat, and thank you so much to lovely Brok who help me and got my ads removed for free, too!! Now my Kindle shows the LOTR book cover, rather than ads. I am stoked! I too have been thinking endlessly of my Kindle case haha, I actually have a clear case (off brand, not made by them), which I love! I think it was more like $15. Never had the name brand one, so I can't speak to the difference between them, but this one works great! My perseverating has been over the pattern I got on the back of my case. I. thought it would look like stars, and like a starry night against my black Kindle. Alas, no, it just looks like glitter rather than stars, which is nice, just not me. (The name of the pattern was literally called 'glitter', so truly, what was I thinking.) Should have returned it right away, but I was lazy and wanted to get a case on my Kindle promptly. to protect it. Now I'm wishing I had swapped it for a plain one (or diff pattern), but I have decided I shall try to focus on appreciating what I have- a great case and for a good price! If the soles of your shoes are rubber, I use a magic eraser (even the generic) to clean the soles ands sometimes even the tops of the shoes too!
i'll definitely try that but I'm not gonna hold out hope😭 honestly, if they look a little messed up for now, that's fine. I'll replace them with a new shoe eventually but I just wanna make sure I love the new shoe 100%!!

So they actually made converse comfortable now, I bought a pair and I got the wide width ones for my tamale feet and they have memory foam now and the canvas has like padding? I know I was confused lol. They are my day to day errand shoes.
Girl, I have that case and that case is great! If you need a change take it off or do an ISO post on your buy nothing site for one. 😉. Keep the old case though.

The kindle clear case and sticker conundrum is so real. I almost caved thanks to all the TikToks I saw with people decorating them. And I almost bought a sticker that said “in my kindle era” like I haven’t had a kindle for over a decade. 😂. I stayed strong though.

I haven't yet, but the white is flaking off a bit and it's a lil yellowy underneath...
The only converse that I find comfortable nowadays are the run star hike or a flatform in general... The regular ones, I could never wear them again!
I don't think I ever will either! I don't know why I wore them for so long because they always made my feet hurt!!!
Do you have/will you make a video on how to figure out what foods to avoid with eczema? I've massively cut down on lactose but I hadn't heard that gluten, sugar, tofu, etc could be bad too

When I buy a new device like a phone or Kindle, the case is part of the same purchase. I don't want to damage my brand new device for trying to save $30. If your old case doesn't fit the new model, I would also question how protective it will be.
that's fair! I always buy a case whenever I buy a new device too. I think I was just going through a lot of emotions here lol
@@gracenevitt It's good to feel our feelings! Glad you captured what many of us go through when trying to talk ourselves out of a purchase, it was very relatable! It's like the brain gets obsessed with it and spins and spins until it finds satisfaction somewhere (and often it's in caving in and purchasing). It's useful to teach ourselves we don't need to make a purchase to get rid of the thoughts, they will go away on their own if we're just patient and wait.

I have no experience with doc Martens but I think get the holes patched and wear them as work boots unless you have other appropriate work shoes you could be wearing. Also I really think you should try Courtney Carvers project 333 for your clothing. I've tried a lot of things to minimize my clothing and this one has really worked for me. Ive been using her capsule wardrobe method for 9 months now and I'm still obsessed with it.
in terms of the docs, I think they're just too dead to continue using. the amount that I use them as work shoes does not justify me keeping them for sure. and you're also not the first person that has mentioned project 333, so I feel like I should actually look into that forreal!!
@@gracenevitt you keep mentioning not feeling like your there yet with your clothes and I think its worth a try. Also these might be selfish reasons but I think it would be an entertaining video no matter the outcome like even if you end up trying it and hate it.
I'm definitely interested to give it a try!! I'll probably start in the spring/summer bc I'm always just mildly miserable in the winter, so I don't want to taint the enjoyability of the challenge by starting it off on a bad foot LOL

You can contact Customer service and say ads are inappropriate or something like that and they’ll remove them for free. Might not work the first time but just keep talking to different representatives

I'm "low gluten", but for the banana bread, I just used the king arthur one-for-one flour replacement with a regular banana bread recipe!
Did you end up finding a way to fix the doc martens or did you declutter them? Mine did the same thing and I’ve been trying to fix them myself!
I ended up just decluttering them! I used them only a few times in the past year so it definitely was not worth it to keep them for me sadly...
