  • The waters of the Tahquamenon river flow over the Upper Falls at more than 15,000 gallons per minute. Spring run-off due to snow melt can see nearly twice that volume - as is seen in this video. The falls are often nick-named "Root Beer" falls due to the color of the water. The water is that color due to the tannins of the cedar swamps which leach into the river's headwaters. It is quite the display year round. The sound here was captured at the waterfall's edge. The aerial view captured via a drone.
