- Roy is forging a campfire wok which is great for backcountry camping and backpacking, and also for use in bushcrafting applications.
Blanks for this campfire wok and wok spoon are available at www.blacksmithingblanks.com.
We hope you enjoy this video where Roy made a homemade wok pan. We'd love to hear in the comments what other lightweight backpacking cookware you use.

At least once per video, I say, “Oh, no. He’s messed that up.”
Followed by *tap* *tap* *tap* …
“Oh. He fixed it.”
I learn something from every video.
So great to see you forge this project with the simplest of tooling to show it can be done. Thank you good sir👏👏👏
Thank you Wayne ❤️
Beautifully designed and crafted, and one of my favourite dishes, too! Mmmmm Scrambled eggs with butternut squash! Thanks for sharing this video!
Amazing Roy! These silent demo videos are really nice, but the anticipation is killer - Roy has the gift of gab, I can only imagine the pressure building as you want to talk through what you are doing!
LoL The pressure is unreal 😂
I just love the invisible rice you were cooking great job Roy!
A cooking video by Roy my year is complete ❤️
Love the new style of video mate, it works well. Intro at the start did add to the story.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
You should include the cookbook "101 Ways To Wok Your Dog"
lol
I've watched a lot of bushcraft shows of skillets and other cooking things for bushcraft , but I think what I just saw beats them all. I think I'll make one for myself. As always keep up the good work and God bless 🙏
I think socket handle skills would work good as well. And as always keep up the good work and God bless 🙏
Those are pretty sweet! Been wanting to get me one. Cheers and have a blessed day!
Great idea!
Nice, saw the campsite cooking video a few weeks ago when you used the wok and spoon to cook for the family! Definitely two things I will do, thanks Roy!
Just ordered some of these to try. I will be taking a different approach to the handle though. My friends and I all work in professional kitchens and would like a nice wok so I’ll be making fixed handles and see how they turn out. I’m hoping my holland anvil block has a big enough depression so I don’t have to make one. I might try to make an add on handle to the far side as well. Love your stuff and look forward to more orders and projects in the future.
Great to see a new video & project Roy. Those turned out very well. Hopefully we buy blanks and other things off your website some day. Hopefully they get great use out of them. When you and your family camping trips and hiking trails. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge on. Keep making. God bless.
Thank you Jared and God bless you and yours
Love it, cheers
Another great video!
Great video. I really like the find a stick to make a handle idea.
Wok-a Wok-a ! Great idea
That looks good
That awesome
Mmmm, looks good! I'll enjoy your camp fire too!
Every time I see that old timber the right side of my brain says - railroad tie, and the left side says whoa there, railroad ties have all kinds of toxic chemicals in them. Have to wait for the right stump or log to cut into a proper timber!
Funny you are picking up on that because Yes the block I'm using is a off cut of a railroad tie.. but it's straight from the Mill before it gets The chemical treatment. So both sides of your head is correct lol
Make it then cook in it Great demo!!!
Thank you had fun making it ☺️
I want to try this one. I will be ordering a blank set!
Okay! Now I'm hungry 😆
Such a meat lil tool.
Thanks for shaving
God bless!
Crawford out 🙏🔥⚒️🧙🏼♂️
Thank you Mr Crawford Sir 👍
Looks great, I will have to make one, haha
"Wood" prefer a thumbscrew to retain the handle given that the wok will have hot oil in it.
I see what you did there 😉
I love the videos. Have you made one about the building you're forging inside? Could be a nice addition to your videos.
As someone just learning and getting started I am curious what you would say I should focus on as far as skill building. I know nails are a common item, drawing out and tapering and that kind of thing. Part of why I ask is that I would love to support your channel by buying blanks from your site, but I'd like to know what I should focus on in the beginning.
Thanks.
Big Unk.
I would say small things like Christmas ornaments for giving to family nails, fire pokers , meat skewers, bottle openers , Hooks, etc...... Glad to have you as part of the channel And Craft 🙂
@@ChristCenteredIronworks thank you, I really appreciate the advice.
Nicely done, and I hadn't thought of making a wok to take backpacking. I won't, however, duplicate your recipe. Squash and eggs? Horrors! Were you out of Spam????
Thought you were slicing of up a banana for a second there.
Maybe next time 😉
Great video Roy, really smart, is it easy to clean after use, do you have to use oil to prevent rust.
Thanks 👍 Yes you need to keep them oiled and to clean All you do is heat It up and wipe it down
What type of steel did you use for the wok? Was it just plain mild steel?
This is a really nice set how did you get the slight depression in the timber dishing stump
Got a video of that on RUclips 🙂 but basically an angle grinder...
I use a chainsaw, works great.
I like the project, I thought I would like to try cooking on my camp fire at the engine shows I attend. I have no idea of what to cook🤔, but I know eggs and squash isn't going to happen🤢. 👍
LoL so much hate for the squash in this video 😂
@@ChristCenteredIronworks I think the word HATE is a little harsh, dislike is a little better to swallow🤔
CampWok? Not a combination k thought I'd see. Good idea though.
Not sure what a combination k is??
@@ChristCenteredIronworks combination k is code for "a combination I thought I'd see". And now i can't fix the typo or your comment won't make sense----
I couldn't really see the label on the jug of oil, but l assume it's cooking oil?
Yeppers just cooking oil
Are you planning to cook wabbit killed with a wock?
My first attempt was from 1/8 in. Was a hard go of it. Ill try 14 ga. Next time. Great video, but what happened to your voice? You take an oath of silence while forging?
First
This is not the 'droid you seek. And not a Wookie, either. Wok. One o.
Spoon wooks like a wittle wok. 🍳
