I’m watching your tutorial on set up, but you have explained it much better than any of the other videos I have seen. Also, I’m new to stick bow hunting, but not new to Christ. I agreed, don’t complicate a new believer up, keep Christ as the focus!
Good job RC. Young beginning bowyers need to see these things an it don,t hurt the older ones to maybe learn something new. There's always a better way. A life lived for Christ is the greater way . Amen, simple, simple, simple! Keep it simple and easy for that is what it is supposed to be. Too many make it a lot harder than what it is supposed to be and that applies to salvation as well. There is no need, especially with a longbow to have to go to a pro shop for anything work wise. some make their own strings, some don't. Once you get a bow square and some don't even use one because of a practiced eye but a good simple square will last forever. You don't have to use wool if you don't have some but it works so much better, especially in wet weather. Then the next important thing for a bow is wax for the string to protect it. An awesome video for the beginner as well as some that don't realize how easy and simple it can be. Longbows are simple and awesome in so many ways. Keep em coming Brother
I've got an old Shakespeare fiberglass bow that I need to set up and get some arrows tuned for it. Your videos have inspired me to do it and have been alot of help to me to know what I need to do to get started. I am thankful I found your channel because you have a no non sense approach that I can understand. I have shot a compound ever since I was a kid and always wanted to try a trad bow and now you have inspired me to just go for it. Thanks Robert for all of your helpful videos.
Another use for dental floss. Not my idea ... friend clued me. If nock's fit on served string is bit more loose than ya prefer, wrap dental floss between nock points until nock fit is perfect. Use super glue to adhere dental floss in place. Then go shoot some arras! Thanks for taking time to illustrate how ya setup your bows.

thanks for a nice movie. you are a knowledgeable and experienced man. thank you for simplifying things that others do everything they can to make advanced and difficult. archery should be fun.
I use a brass Nock sometimes 2 stacked if serving is even on string where nocking point is or nocks are really thin but then again, I am using a Glove and I am having he crimp facing away from handle and in a teardrop shape so ends are mashed into each other. I have yet to have one eat a serving on a properly made string.

Good video. I use a couple pieces of paracord just the outside with the inner strands removed. Just put them between the string top and bottom. Doesn't pick up burrs or water like wool silencers.

Robert does your square and tape measure measurements jive with one another when measuring brace height? My square is off by 1/8”. Can’t remember if it reads long or short at this moment, but if I measure with a tape measure (the method I actually use) and then measure with a bow square, the square is off 1/8”.
@@robertcarte95 no I get that, but if you measure the brace the way you show (short side to the grip, long side towards string) it will be off 1/8”. If you clip it to the string and measure towards the grip it is accurate . I don’t think most people know that. Gotta be smarter than the tool I guess lol
You did a good job on this, Robert. I've been shooting these hill-style longbows for around 40 years, and have been making my own strings and arrows also. I like to use string material or serving to tie my nocks on with. I only use one nocking point where the arrow is above it. It's a little quicker for me getting the arrow on the string and without looking. I've noticed over the years that most longbowmen use a higher brace height than I. Bin shooting a 70-inch Hill style longbow lately, and like the BH right at 6 in. I use a simple method of measuring brace height in the field by placing my fist on the riser and sticking my thumb up. I like the string to be in the center of my thumbnail. This measurement is what used to be called "fistmill" I don't use string silencers on an American style longbow, but many do. Congratulations on acquiring a Sunset Hill longbow, they are hard to come by. Nate builds the finest Hill style long bows in the country. More than this though, I appreciate you telling the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Get wool yarn and it will shed water with a slight pop of the string.

It's the distance of the string clips. I account for it

The bow is 3 lams of bamboo with a Myrtle riser. Fine shooting bow.
