BJJ works better in the ground, while KALI's full potential in combat fighting is harmful in stand-up. If a KALI expert is brought down to the ground by a BJJ expert, most likely or probable, BJJ will have the advantage, supposing that this is an encounter without weapons. The question is, do you think KALI experts will allow reaching the ground without hurting the BJJ experts first? In a street fight, I think both will think of each survival and will do, and use both the best of what they have considering they are both experts and must be ready all the time for a possible encounter. In summary, KALI will eliminate BJJ before a BJJ can do its thing in a street brawl. Only my 2 cents.
to be honest this guy is not half as good as those real Kali masters. BJJ is really effective, and can pacify kali practitioner if the fight goes on the ground but if the fight goes hand to hand combat BJJ is no way can beat kali.
As a longtime, 20 year practitioner/instructor of Kali (Kombatan Arnis) - this is a great video. Isolating the arm with a two on one Americana/Kimura is a very effective way to control it. That said, your best defense against a knife is... another knife. In Kali, the highest level of the art is Armed versus unarmed. Even as an instructor, I do not want to be dealing with no knife or defensive weapon against a defensive weapon. You WILL get cut. At that point you are simply being more strategic about where you will get cut and how much that will impact your effectiveness. The fact is you don't want to be in a knife fight. You probably don't want to be on the ground either with a live blade deployed. It's far easier to stay safe standing than it is to be engaged up close. That said, grappling is a crucial component of Arnis - I supplemented mine with Judo. In the Philippines they use dumog. Either way, this was a great video and very realistic for possible problems and solutions for a given situation.

I noticed that he did not kick or disable the kali guy's throat as he get up.. i always saw in kali to hit the vital parts even if/when the opponent is down. The purpose is to give you more time to get away or discourage the opponent to follow
