I work for a local council. The hardest part about my job is deciding where to take a nap. I absolutely love it.

I work retail and I love my job. Just got promoted too. And I don't find it fullfilling either, I just appreciate the paycheck. I think that's enough. I'm exchanging my labour for company shareholders to make a profit, but I get a paycheck that keeps me and mine fed and I'm grateful for that.
I don't love that I have to have a job, but I make the most of it and go to work optimistic for the day. A bad job will suck, but a mundane one doesn't have to.

Not sure how to word my response to this but 100% agree do what gives you meaning and gives you a sense of accomplishment. I work on FOSS projects and contribute to KDE as well as working on my own game. I used to be to shame to share my thoughts and work but a few people who uplifted me gave me confidence and now I work on this stuff daily (earn about $15 a month) but I love it and the communities I 've connect with have taught me how to love myself
My dad hates his job so much that he drank until he got parkinsons. He still drinks he just finds it annoying when his legs start shaking after. My mum was telling me about how she'll probably never be able to retire and will work until the day she dies. I was doing a locksmithing apprenticeship recently and it honestly just crushed my soul after being there for a month and a half so I just quit. Now I'm looking for an electrical apprenticeship, I'll get to travel around and help people and hopefully I'll be able to make enough money to support myself and my mum so she can retire.
I actually enjoy my job. I work with great people and enjoy being on my feet operating all sorts of machines to make semiconductors of all types. I have worked jobs I despise in the past though.

I'm a social worker in community mental health and I love it. Managing vicarious trauma can be challenging but I almost always feel good about what I've achieved at the end of the day.

This notion that you must contribute, not everyone feels that way. Only people from societies where if you don't contribute, they put you on an ice floe or throw you out of the city. If your society is from a place where a man on his own can survive without the group, where it's warm and food just grows on trees, there isn't that same internal need to feel that you are helping.

Have been slingin pizza off and on for the last 6 years, sick of it the whole time. At some point last winter I decided to buckle down on my indie gamedev passion/hobby. When you are working on something you actually care about, it becomes a lot more pleasant to punch in. Even if you still gotta run up your day job, there's now that background voice in ya head saying "This is now temporary". 9 times out of 10, your dream job is staring you in the face, and is closer to reality than you think.
I've been watching the channel for years and just realised how much I've improved.

Even though I'm working at Subway and got a second job as a kitchen hand it's more than I ever got in my whole life working as someone from a third world country and its helped a lot with my social awkwardness. I don't see myself in these jobs forever but it's not a bad starting point.
Not only that but I'm in that sink or swim situation with rent and it's the most exhilarating experience I've ever had... trying to come up with solutions or finding creative ways to save money. In my home country I lived with my mother and just didn't want to do anything with my life and I barely had enough to pay for the VISA.
I'm super grateful that I managed to come to Australia because its opened up so many doors for me than if I stayed in my home country.

I’m a teacher. I love my job. Year 16 of it and it gets better every year even though American education is going down the tubes. Love love love what I get to do for a living.
I was an Exercise physiologist for 10 years and working with the 'exact same people' for that 10 years, depressed war veterans wasting everyones time. I would come home, ignore my partner and play 8 hours of games to find some dopamine.
Left the girlfriend, moved back home and 5 years later, now I'm a mechanical and space engineer working on a NASA mission :)

I like writing, I'd like to think I'm a talented writer (but I've also seen others say that who write like dogshit, and the few who do write well are narcissistic egomaniacs who consider themselves gods amongst men because they can properly use a semicolon). But looking around for writing-related work, it's discouraging how soulless it can be: sponsored content, fear-mongering via the news. Right now I work in computer science, because I wanted money, and I was good at it, but writing is my passion. It seems impossible, though, to actually be passionate about the work writing has.
I was advancing in my career and had to choose between management or tech and I opted to have as little to do with people as possible

As someone who was givin no hours after a year of working with all of my last 3 hosptality jobs as a way to get me to quit and now have no job or very little possiblity of getting another job (including being denied help from job seekers and being denied by KFC and maccas TWICE) I can agree I do hate my job and the 85% is the correct percent. I'm a heavy diesel mechanic that works currently up north. I do enjoy my job. Not because the job is great, but because I can come home to my own home. And my own family. That is what makes the dirty work worth it
I quit IT because screw that shit and now I'm working for the [REDACTED] and man I love it. It was quite the head first leap of faith, but I have found that I genuinely enjoy my new work place.
I never expected it to make such a difference to my life, working in a field where what I do feels important.
About to start a 3am gig, should be sweet, on track to actually waking up at 2 every morning... no caffeine or sugar.... this job has meaning, i get to help feed the town and get paid a decent amount to do so ^~^
I think the biggest thing that Cov did for me was make me realise just how much all my fuckwit coworkers and boss stop me from working.
When i go from struggling to get 80% work efficiency to 100% for the entire time I worked from home? Thats efficiency of doing work when I said I was working for the full 8 hours, plus all 8 hours was billable. For an entire month.
Then going back to the office. Yeah fuck that shit.
Also your commebt about changing the dfinition of what is fulfilling about work really hits home. Im an Accountant, however, the 2 years I spent escaping being an Accountant being a Delivery Driver was so fulfilling.
But didnt pay enough. So had to go back. But I spent 6 months finding the best job I could, regardless of the pay. And now I earn $30k more than Ive ever earned per year as I find more fulfillment in my job.
i work part time in fast food and genuinely dread going to work, so glad im doing tertiary next year hours away and that i can change jobs to something less soulcrushing

ha I went to uni and did architecture. It sucked here in Australia. Started a business designing skate parks and had a great job for 23yrs. Suck it losers I made it to the 15%.... Until Professional Indemnity Insurance quintupled after Covid and put me out of business.... Now I am going to start a Warhammer 40K youtube channel and semi retire....
