The #KiaStinger is still one of the most talked about sport sedans on the market. When Kia first introduced the #StingerGT to America, its 365 HP 3.3L twin-turbo V6 and rear-wheel drive chassis made it an instant success with enthusiasts. For 2022, The #StingerGT2 gets even better with revised styling, improved tech, and a new sport-exhaust system that adds slightly more power. We're hoping it continues to be a hit so #Kia will bring the #Stinger name back for a next generation in a few years.

Should Kia consider making the next-generation Stinger all-electric? The powertrain from the EV6 GT would be awesome in this car someday. 😬 Thanks again to Keeps for sponsoring this video! Be sure to go to www.keeps.com/redline to get 50% off your first order!

I was just thinking the same thing, an all electric Stinger would smash a Tesla. I'd even prefer if they left the shifter exactly the same, just make it electric. Don't make it ugly and give it stupid wheels, drop a big battery in the floor and GO!!

@@rickyayy I disagree. By far the "biggest upgrade for 2022" is the replacement of the 2.0L turbo 4 with the 2.5L engine in the base GT-Line Stinger and offered as standard or optional in at least 9 KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis models. For a difference in 0-60 acceleration between the GT-Line and the GT2 of as little half a second, a weight advantage of the base Stinger amounting to the weight of an NFL linebacker and a price advantage of up to $15,000, the GT-Line is a screaming bargain compared to the GT2.
BTW, Sofyan's MSRP comparisons are somewhat confusing. A GT-Line AWD version with the "Sun and Sound" package that adds a sunroof and 15 speaker sound system has an MSRP of $41,635 including destination. The AWD GT1 with the V6 engine comes in at $46,935. In addition to the engine it has several other upgrades, most notably electronically controlled suspension and torque vectoring AWD but it lacks the upgraded sound available in the GT-Line. The GT2 restores the upgraded audio and adds a number of other relatively minor upgrades over the GT1 but comes at an MSRP $56,320 with AWD and the $1300 "Scorpion" package consisting of some appearance features.
If one is trying to match the luxury features of some European rivals the GT2 may be a bargain. But the "value" choices are clearly the GT-Line and GT1 models.

As was said in the review, it is a properly fast car with the 3.3L V6 and it's extremely practical. If you need a one-car-that-does-it-all solution, like me, I think the Stinger tops that list hands down!

I have had my 2022 GT1 RWD Stinger for 4 months now and all I can say is what a car. The duality of this car makes it super appealing. If you want to have a nice chill drive it is super comfortable and if you want to hoon it its also satisfying due to its immense power. I will say almost all KIA products I have experienced all look really nice, but when you look closer the veneer can't disguise the cheap materials used. This car is the exception this has to be some of the nicest materials I have seen in any non-German car. The real metal, napa leather, and soft touch materials (almost zero gloss black thankfully) really make this a very well appointed car that will impress almost any one. Also the reliability of this car is good with no major issues to speak of. I came from a 2018 Civic Si coupe and the only things I miss from that car are the manual and the lightweight feeling. Your best bet is to go for the GT1 MSRP is $43k and I fortunately skirted the dealer mark-ups for an out the door price of $46k. Yes I would have liked to have some of the extra features that the GT2 offers, but it is not worth the extra $10k+ to me. If you are in the market for a full-sized sedan you could have a loaded out Accord, Camry, or Maxima, but why in the hell would you this car is at least twice as good as those cars. I would argue with the amount of room in the hatch this could easily beat out a small SUV in practicality. So just get over your brand/badge snobbery and go test drive this car and you will be sold on it.

It would really suck donkey dick if Kia got rid of ANOTHER sedan, their best one at that... They already scrapped the K900 and the Cadenza last year. I see absolutely no reason to give up on the Halo car already. Especially when the rest of the brand doesn't hold up to snuff to the Stinger. The Telluride is probably the only highly competent model but I feel like ditching the Stinger would hurt the brand more than help. @@leecm what were the annoyances?

    • @leecm
      @leecm 2 года назад

@@porfiriato84 Mainly just a little of little things that all added up to sully the overall experience.
In order from most to least annoying (google these and you'll find that they're common complaints)
      1. Transmission drag: When coming to a stop, it is basically *impossible* to coast or brake to a stop smoothly. The transmission downshifts in a way that it causes jerky deceleration that has no relation to how hard you are pressing the brake pedal. Very frustrating and really gave me buyers remorse within 500 miles of driving. The issue is most pronounced in Sport mode but it exists in all driving modes.
      2. Interior ticks, creaks, and rattles: Door and sunroof seals ticking/creaking constantly. This may bother me more than others because I value a quiet cabin.
I don't necessarily mind engine noise, but interior/seal creaks and rattles just really are unacceptable for a $50k+ car (don't pay that much for one of these, btw. They can be had for $45k or less using lease buyouts).
      3. "Surgy" cruise control: I have never had a car that had a cruise control that always felt like it was coming on and off throttle to maintain a constant speed.
If you get on the interstate and put the Stinger on cruise, you will notice that it is constantly "surging" to maintain its speed. All other cars I've had have just kept the speed. Really made me feel like the refinement wasn't there.
      4. Tech: I generally loved the 360 degree camera and the while I dislike the surginess of the cruise, I did really enjoy the adaptive cruise feature. With that said, the adaptive cruise wasn't perfect. If I was on the interstate and someone merged really closely to me (assholes trying to squeeze between two cars at high speeds) the Stinger would break very strongly almost to the point where it was unsafe.
Aside from that, the parking sensors or front collision sensors (can't remember which) would randomly start going off when sitting behind a car traffic lights.
The sound system was not very great. I know that Sofyan said it was good in this review, but unless Kia changed something between MY19 and MY22, I disagree with him. The sound system in my 06 Lexus IS250 was superior to the Stinger.
      5. Dealership experience: Kia dealerships are simply inferior to the premium dealers. Kia corporate came through and helped solve any complaint I have, but I had a couple of bad-to-subpar experiences with the dealers themselves.
      6. Power: The car is quick from a stop. From 0-60 you'll love it. With that said, it is NOT a fast car from a roll. And if you are driving over 60mph and you step on it to pass someone, you'll be surprised just how little torque and power there is.
      7. Subpar fuel economy: To reach the fuel estimates you would need to drive in eco mode like a granny.
      8. Small gas tank: The fact that it drinks gas AND has a small gas tank means you will need to refill often.
      9. Direct injection concerns: Because it has only direct injection (and no port injection) you will have to install oil catch cans. If you don't, you will have carbon buildup. This isn't necessarily a Stinger only problem, but it is something to know.
I'm probably forgetting a few things, but that is the gist of it.

On your 0-60 runs on this and all of your other test vehicles, it would be nice if you would do at least one 0-60 run without brake-torque and without launch control. Just old school letting off the brakes and punching the gas pedal. It would be great to know what the results would be if someone just suddenly punched the gas to the floor from a stop without any preparation. Just one run like that on each review would be appreciated.

Bought my 2019 GT2, same color combo, over 2 years ago. I'm still very satisfied with my purchase. It's not perfect in every way, but it's very fun to walk up to and to drive, especially on twisty back roads. A lot of German for a not so German price. Just enough utility as well. It is a head turner and gets tons of comments and compliments tough I wasn't buying it for that reason. The dealership experience isn't great (coming from a premium label car), but not a deal breaker. It's nice to drive something different than most other cars out there. I do feel bad for those who are paying retail (or more) now. Kia was cutting huge deals when I purchased given the low sales numbers. Not sure what I would trade this in for eventually given the style, power, and price. I do hope they keep making and improving this car, but rumor is it's going away. All electric Stinger? Not sure I could adjust to that. Give us one more generation of gas, make it sound better and put out 450+ hp and I would likely buy another one!

Quick note about the car audio for potential buyers - the Harmon Kardon system in the Stinger is not exceptional. It's good enough, at best. It's barely class competitive. Turning the volume up will quickly reveal the harshness from the cheap speakers. Many Stinger owners are swapping out speakers or going full custom system. Disconnecting the dash (center) speaker helps a little, it's a crappy 4" speaker that the HK system sends a lot of the vocals to depending on what sound effect settings you have enabled.

Have you have you heard of anyone questioning Kia about not offering wireless CarPlay with the bigger screens? Some of their decision making gives me pause. That’s something that should be included. One reason to use their navigation over the phone navigation is to take advantage of the heads up display. With that said I think they should allow casting of CarPlay to the heads up display. In 2020 the Stinger GT2 was their most expensive (flagship) vehicle yet it didn’t offer an integrated remote starter, the updated navigation screen from the Kia Soul,, LKA level 2 or the Kia app compatibility. Maybe that should’ve been a sign that the Stinger was more of a project vehicle than a long term offering.

In my opinion, practically speaking, the Type S would be wonderful to drive on a daily basis and has more than enough power to have some fun if you want to punch it. People get too caught up on the whole 0-60 thing. That isn’t really practical at all unless your only concern is peak performance.

I had Posted on your other review of this that i like the refresh but rather have the previous models taillights. I saw one out of town at night and didnt care for the taillight design.

Sofyan, Didn't see any mention of handling impressions. Would have liked to hear your thoughts of the Stinger vs TLX-Type S.
