I'll be completely honest right now after many years playing starcraft 2 and playing Age 2 when I was a kid, I'm very blessed to be able to play this game, I don't get toxicity coming from Dota 2 teammates and it refreshes my brain organizing my villagers through the resources Age of Empires 4 is a GREAT game!
I think the first impression of the game for newbies is way too difficult and it-s not just the game is complex. With the campaign they should teach us the game a lot more. Right now they only explain the very very basic stuff, but things so important as hotkeys and create groups easily doesn-t exist really. For example, I have been playing the game since release I just found out that if you press quickly twice the group you created, the camara focus on those units, that was huge. But stuffs like send a villager to do several jobs should be a thing that the game explain to you. If you have to do your own research to discover so many basic stuff drive away a lot of people. They should teach and encourage to use hotkeys and all that stuff bc otherwise you think you-re pretty bad and the issue was just you didn-t know how to use hotkeys. And focus more on the counter units should be a must as well... They only teach you archer beats spearman, spearman beats horseman, and horseman beats archers, but I think they don-t say a thing about armour units and crossbows, sieges....

And in any moment they could improve their tutorials or campaign tutorials by teaching how to use the hotkeys, order several things at the same time, create and use properly the units groups, an actual counterunits tutorial, siege... The hotkeys are essential, and we take them for granted but a lot of newbies dont even know they exist , that-s a huge problem. Or they just know they exist somewhere but they dont use them because they dont really know how to really work or how to change them and its pretty understandable since they are like even hidden in the menu, its such an important thing and there-s a lot of people playing the game with out using them. Those people probably will end up dropping the game. Yes, hotkeys and queue action for villigers and stuff ive took from other rts so i didnt feel it. But i do get that without them it is really hard to play it right. When i was a kid the hotkeys and shift actions were huge breakthrough

I love AOE4 so much. Have put 1500+ hours into it. But I recently stopped playing because the lower levels (plat/diamond) are overwhelmed with cheaters. Even FFA nomad which is supposed to be a fun mode has so many maphackers (and if they're not maphacking, people donating kings ruins the game). I have reported dozens of players for maphacking online at the custom support page and while they do ban, it's always only a week, even in multiple offenses, so it's not worth my time getting video and submitting. Last time I played I had three straight games (1 ranked 1v1 and two FFAs) with obvious maphackers. I called it quits after that. Just so deflating to play for 30 minutes or hour only to find afterwards the game was never on even footing. As far as watchability, even though I'm not playing, I do still enjoy watching high level gameplay and tourneys. I think at the high level it's very watchable (way more so than AOE2, AOM, or Stormgate).
Tbh I'm not even going to watch this because of the demotivating topic. I'm a new at the game and I'm loving it!!! There maybe a issue of anboarding new players but i got to say. It's sooooo much fun I'm loving aoe4!

Imo, the viewership problem is very noticable because an already a small target group of people (that like to watch hours of long strategic matches, same as classical chess for example) is fragmented to multiple similar titles. AoE1, AoE2, AoE3, AoE4, AoM all share the same type of players and viewers.
Why are people saying smurfing is a big problem? There’s a lot of factors that can lead to landslide victories. Sometimes I destroy someone sometimes I’m destroyed. It just happens sometimes. If you’re on a win streak you will go against higher levels. It’s pretty simple
because people can dodge to get matched with players of lower rank to inflate their elo/rank. easy solution is for the game to hide who your opponent is in the matchmaking menu. this is a standard feature in all RTS games yet is missing in aoe4. yes, you win and lose, and most people don't care about rank, but frequently losing to dodgers isn't fun when already having to deal with smurfs, cheaters, and cheesy tactics.
I think Red Bull under performed cause they did not put the dates on Twitter till right before hand. Usually, they put the start date up months in advance, but I did not notice it till a couple days before
Beasty could you tell the devs that the Xbox version with keyboard and mouse is kind of a mess. I have warned them a lot of times but they dont ever listen. The main problem is that you cant build anything by using just the keyboard, for example by pressing twice Q you cant build a house. You have to do a previous step with the mouse selecting a command. There are 3 commands when you select a villager: 1. the first one is for moves (attack, stop, search for shelter... and to age up). 2. to economic buildings. 3. for the military buildings. So its different to the PC version and way too much slow since every time you wanna build anything you just cant press twice keys and go on, you have to do that step with the mouse and in the long run thats so annoying... Besides, there are other problems like there are a lot of hotkeys that doesnt work properly, like the market or the monastery. Other hotkeys when you change them on the menu they stop working. And other hotkeys that exist on the PC version, they doesnt exist on the Xbox version. Please warn them, may be they listen to you

I like this game is great, IMHO this game needs a balance, defender is always in advantage. S tiers civs are based on early farms that's all. Farms must cost a lot like 200 wood 😅

Man I have almost 2k hours in this game and I’m pretty certain I’ve never encountered a cheater or map hacker. This is a massively over exaggerated problem. Smurfing is also… not a significant problem. I have a Smurf account and played a total of 3 ranked games before I was against a player who was better than me. In quick match it was probably 8 or 10 games.

Nili even announced himself as the new Tournament Coordinator that he accepts pitches for all Age games. As for N4C, Nili said he started planning it months before AoE 4's release thus didn't know the state of the game at launch. Nili did end his full time streaming career not because of AoE 2 v 4 but rather because he set himself the goal to be a Top 16 player that can regulary compete in tournaments, which he obviously did not.

That AOE2 is significantly bigger and more popular despite it´s old graphics just shows how much AOE4 blew it. I WISH Aoe4 was a good game with cool immersive campaigns and fun to watch micro. But it is not.
I see that AoE2 has a very dedicated, almost cult like fan base, but have yet to hear anyone explain why AoE2 is better in a meaningful way. I asked one friend of friends directly and his answer was very forgettable, something like, "its more fun"

That AOE2 is significantly bigger and more popular despite it´s old graphics just shows how much AOE4 blew it. I WISH Aoe4 was a good game with cool immersive campaigns and fun to watch micro. But it is not.
Everytime I play Aoe2 it starts lagging after massive amount of units get built, just simply unplayable and unfun
The game is not significantly bigger its the e-sport. And i hope you can answer the question why thats the case for your own
I see that AoE2 has a very dedicated, almost cult like fan base, but have yet to hear anyone explain why AoE2 is better in a meaningful way. I asked one friend of friends directly and his answer was very forgettable, something like, "its more fun"
I cant watch aoe2, i really hate the arrow dodge, i find it super borring. It just reminds of been a kid, and the ai doing it, and thinking no way you do that irl.
