Main theme is 1 alienation of women 2subordinate position of women in relationship as well as society and 3 disapproval of patriarchal traditions by making women self-aware and develop patience, resilience and optimism. By metaphorically comparing women to cats, she encourages women to look to cats as a model for how to behave when wronged or jilted by romantic partners. And in the larger context it can be used in the context of society.
Here she says that Cats come back/return to their owners when cats want something. This behaviour of cat will help women to learn patience and wait for their lovers to come back. She basically advices women not to surrender to the social norms and be patient and strong. The lover, the society will neglect her and then come back like nothing happened. In society, in any relationship women is dominated by others and she suffers because of this. So the women should be strong and patient to handle this. So the poet encourages women to cultivate detachment in relationships.
