At 60 these bikes just look right to me. I spent my childhood on a CT70 & a friend had a 90. I think a more camp/dirt worthy version would have appeal too. Maybe in Accessories catalogue? I bought a VanVan last year and love it. The retro look got my wallet out.
Since it's not the same engine I'd really appreciate a mention about how this new super cub fares with what arguably made the original so likeable. It's reliable, the darn thing was indestructable.
Not to mention that this $3,599 price will almost double after freight, setup, dealer prep, fluid charge, air on the tires, crate dismantle, QC of QC, PDI and all the other charges I can’t think of.
It’s easy to get good deals. Most people want instant gratification. They don’t wait for sales and they finance. Come in with cash when they have a sale and you will pay sticker price or lower. Get one that is a couple years old but still brand new. Most dealers wave the set up and freight fees and knock a couple bucks for the sticker if they are getting old.
A lot of people commented about the price being high. But remember you're getting something special... A fun indestructible reliable machine that will give decades of fun😊. 'The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten :😊
you asked if you meet some one, does he ride 2 at a time so when he meets some one theyhave one to ride. A friend of mine had the 90 and it had a duel seat. If it had a bigger gas tank I would be thinking about one. Have a Ruckus but a bit on the slow side, but great for running errands on I like the flat floor for putting gas cans on to go get them filled. But would be great if the could make it in a 125 or a 150 cc. as I live in the country where every thing is 80 Kph.
Why the bike doesn’t have a socket to charge phone ? Why doesn’t have a hand guard protecting from wind ? Why doesn’t have a windshield ? Or we must look for aftermarket ?
The Super Cub is priced a bit high, but I love how it looks. I would definitely go for a demo ride and give this bike some serious consideration if I liked how it felt as much as I like how it looks. But at this time Honda has no plans to sell the Super Cub in Canada, so I guess that won't be happening.
LOL Really? You can't buy an electric bicycle for that, or even a really high quality pedal bicycle. It's 2020. Be realistic. This thing goes 50mph. Expecting it to be $1500 is a joke.
This is going to be a fantastic city commuter. The only thing that is jumping out at me at the moment is that I would like it if the plastic flaring instead of only giving the legs some mist protection wrap under the feet to give the feet mist/spray protection. I don't understand the shifting arrangement yet but I'll get there. The advertised MPG is great, I hope it comes to at least 70% of that.
Modern bikes put a lot more power on the ground than bikes of older generations. That's one of the reasons why these contemporary bikes can get such startling MPG numbers.
I love this bike. Can't wait to see the new Trail 70.....That's why you buy 2.....excellent comment. At this cheap price for a fully modern bike. Why not? ?? Go inside a modern bicycle shop nowadays. Bicycles actually cost more than this in alot of cases. GREAT JOB HONDA! !!!!
That price is of course way too high, but odd also. I live in Thailand and the Supercub, as another commenter pointed out is about $1500. What is odd is that the bikes I look at (bigger bikes mostly) cost anywhere from 30% to 100%+ more here than they do in the states--30% if it's manufactured in Thailand (like Triumph and several Honda models and others) it'll be closer to 30% above US price. If manufactured outside Thailand and imported, then 100% (or up to 400% for some luxury models). I remember the Honda 50 and Honda 90 as a kid in the US in the '60s. The price point and the ease of riding made them a big hit. I believe they couldn't call them "Supercubs" because Piper Aircraft had a souped-up, aerobatic version of the Piper Cub called the Supercub.
My wife, who is from Thailand, had a 2014 Honda wave 110i here in Scotland, it was a great bike that did 125mpg and cost £2000, now the new Cub is £3,800.
Why is the price so high? And no Passenger seat?? These are about $1500 here in Thailand, and you get a passenger seat(They probably couldn't sell a single one if it didn't)
Redic price. Meanwhile in Asia, they sell for $1500. If Honda ever wants to get serious about selling scoots in NA, they need to price them appropriately. For now, this will be the typical 2-3 year import, than Honda US will say they aren't selling enough to keep importing. Blah blah same old story 🙄
Yeah, for the price you can get a pretty good lightly used bike that can do interstate speeds - which is really a necessity for many American commuters. For most people to get one of these as a fun bike to run local errands on, it does need to be cheaper. I do think it's a cool little bike, and once they start showing up on Craigslist with 500 miles for sale at $1,800 I might be tempted.
At this time Honda isn't going to be selling them in Canada, and importing one from the US would make the already high price even more ridiculous. So that's more lost sales for them.
Robert Hastings Where did you see this? The only Optimum Environmental I can find is for a waste management facility. Plus, this discussion was about the 125, not the 110 - although I would be interested in checking out the 110 now that I'm aware of it.
My Vespa 150 Primavara fits a passenger quite nicely however I paid more for that than this little bike costs. They should offer a passenger seat option.
I really like the look but it's at least $1K too expensive. It should also have the larger seat to carry a passenger. Maybe a rack should also come standard considering there is no storage.
It will be interesting to see how these do in dealers. If I had a big garage and deeper pockets, one would surely follow me home. I think the Monkey has a better shot of doing that right now. I'm relatively young at under 40, so my retro bike desires might suggest the millennial hipster influence. Rather, it is a product of my environment. My dad was a motorcycle mechanic and his brothers and many of his friends all rode. Bikes of the 60's-70's were just regular old bikes to me. I really wish Honda would build a "Trail 125" based off this platform. That would become a "shut up and take my money" situation. Something with off road ability really appeals to me. Almost bought a Suzuki Van Van, but ended up with a Yamaha SR400 instead. We shall see what the future holds.
The SR400 is legit. I was going to say go with the TU250x over the Monkey but you've already got a main bike. I agree a trail 125 would be much more appealing than the rest. If I'm gonna be on a 125 i at least want it to have some dirt capabilty.
@Bunnyshooter 223 I love it. It is not fast, but that big single is plenty torquey and it hauls my big (fat) butt around no problem and doesn't complain too much if I need to hit the interstate for a few miles at 70 mph. Mostly, I use it for tooling around on country roads at 50-55 mph which is it's happy spot. Kick starting is no problem (my first 3 bikes had no such electric start nonsense and were carb'd). It just feels like a proper motorbike with the one cylinder pumping along. It is one of those bikes that looks terrible on paper, but it all just makes sense once you ride one.
@@pauld.b7129 The SR400 is actually my other "little" bike. I have a Yamaha Tracer GT and the SR. I used to have a Honda Africa Twin, CB1100, and a Grom. The Grom was a blast, but I got tired of not being able to cruise it comfortably at 55-60. I sold the Grom and was able to scoop up the SR for a very good price. I had been wanting a smaller, light-ish bike and it fit the bill. I actually had a Yamaha FZ09 for a few months until realizing I really wanted the Tracer GT. I traded off the Africa Twin and FZ for the Tracer. So, needless to say, I am a nut when it comes to trading, buying, and selling off bikes. Currently, I am pretty happy with my two rides.
