Cambodian town of Sihanoukville scarred by Chinese influence

Cambodia is increasingly looking away from the West and more towards China as it seeks partners in its economic development. Nowhere is this more evident than in the southern seaside town of Sihanoukville. Once famed for its beautiful beaches, the town has been dramatically changed by massive construction projects including many hotels and casinos. Much of the change comes as a result of the growing influence of Chinese nationals, who have reshaped the town and surrounding province with their investment and very presence. While some locals have benefited from the Chinese influx, many others say they are being left behind.

2016, this town was nice and peaceful and beautiful as he described it. Small quaint hotels and hostels and Cambodian cafe and restaurants businesses. 2017: Things changed dramatically in such a short period. Everything Chinese. Chinese casinos, hotels, land, groceries. I wish I could make it stop but like most locals I felt helpless as it isn't my country. I hope this town goes back to the way it was or better with more support for local Cambodians and preservation of environment. I miss the old SIhanoukville.

@@BlackKnight_999 well i haven't touched that topic of mass immigration through infrastructure investment yet, but you have also raised one of the concerns. Indeed investment in general bring benefits to the country in a lot of ways. Still, sudden mass immigration has its cons, heavy pressure on resources, different culture clashes, price hike in living expenses, population imbalances in countries with different races, and political shifts in countries that are allowed to vote.
China is indeed the most populous country in the world, but it's nowhere near the top 50 (I remember arounx 80) when it comes to population density, in fact they are even far behind from ASEAN country. The reason for these migrations is far away from the current topic, but just to say their population is not a reason for their migration.

Poor SEA countries need to stop being backwater and more forward to modernization. Your enemies and western imperialist do not want you to develop, so that you can be forever poor and provide cheap labour to the capitalist countries.
Sihanoukville will be the entertainment hub in SEA and also tourism; attracting various nationalities of tourists from SEA. Better and larger than Macau and Las Vegas.
People just have to adjust to the transition period. All countries on the planet have been thru this transition period. Cambodia is no exception, or you can sit around, keep jerking, do nothing, stay poor and misery forever. Progression and development is better than dropping bombs from the skies. The western imperialists like war and bring war to non-white and non-western countries.
Malaysia and Singapore are role models when it comes to progression and development. Both are #2 and #1, respectively, in SEA.

I find it funny how these mainland Chinese investors are building businesses and infrastructure but not actually hirer the locals to do the jobs but instead import more Mainland Chinese workers. Pretty much they aren’t giving back to the local economy but instead replacing them.
Maybe the Cambodian Government should restrict the work visa available to non-investors and encouraged more local citizens employments. Those Chinese investors and landlords has already raised the local rents and utilities.
