    I appreciate you giving the Nutricrave corn a try. I am confident you will see a noticeable difference in attraction with the Nutricrave. If I could offer a couple of suggestions; first, corn needs a lot of nitrogen so when putting on the fertilizer use some urea (46-0-0) also simazine is a fair preemergent herbicide but if you had used Resicore instead, you would not have had all those weeds. Resicore is a fantastic preemergent for corn. Hope you get some rain. Keep up the good work!

      This plot was primarily beans for the last 2 yrs. That’s why I didn’t feel the need to put the extra nitrogen down.
      I have a really bad water hemp and lambs quarters weed problem in almost all my plots. The simazine I sprayed didn’t help much because we didn’t get rain to wash it in. In a different spot that I planted later we got rain a few days after planting and that area the simazine definitely held the weeds back better. But I’ll definitely try the resicore next year. Resicore is only for corn right? I really need a pre-emergent for my soybeans. Will you be offering a pre-emergent for soybeans next year too. It’s hard to find info on pre emergents for soybeans.

    The Nutri-Crave company is doing great marketing. Those numbers are what you get from Heirloom Open Pollinated corn (Reid's Yellow Dent at 9%, Jimmy Red and Bloody Butcher at 12%). I've found Blue Hopi gets to 14% protein -- basically the darker the kernels the better (white heirloom like Hickory King has the same % as gmo/hybrid at 3-5%). I have a mix of blue/purple/red heirlooms from US and Mexico growing this year as a landrace cross to settle on best performers in my microclimate. .. Other options to consider: Buckwheat increases phosphorous by making it available for other plants from the soil. A good stand of Winter Rye can eliminate pigweed and water hemp. Deer harvested a lot of my wheat last year and I'm watching for rye consumption this year. I'd broadcast buckwheat after your last cultivation then first half of September broadcast winter rye (I'm also using clover and alfalfa in my rye mix this year). Look up interviews of Rick Clark (he sells corn to food companies without using chemicals or fertilizers) and Dr Erin Silva (more work on beans but applies to corn). Since you are also trying for 'grazing' spaces look for Dr Christine Jones New Zealand project presentation that may be useful for the margins around the corn bean fields.

      100% agreement it’s a scam. Grew it last year and had protein tested. No where near what their claims are

      I did not know about buckwheat increasing P levels in the soil. I looked at few other articles/ studies on it. Definitely interesting. The area I had the purple ish corn was buckwheat and then brassicas last year. But that section of the field has always been a bad spot.
      I don’t plan on doing any inter seeding into the corn rows other than maybe some brassicas if there was a thin spot. Buckwheat seed is expensive.

    For being corn for the deer do you think spending the extra money on the phosphorus is worth it, not like you need a bumper crop

    • @wisconsinwhitetail9744
      @wisconsinwhitetail9744  Год назад

      Yes. After about 2-3 yrs without any fertilizer your crops won’t do good at all. They will be stunted and the weeds will fill in. Believe me I know from experience LOL. By adding some fertilizer each year your keeping the levels in the soil at a balance. I only have about 3-4 acres plots and I want to get highest production/ yield I can. Also the heather the plants the faster they canopy and less weed pressure you have.

    Is the nutra crave corn worth the money. Or better results with round up ready corn

    • @wisconsinwhitetail9744
      @wisconsinwhitetail9744  9 месяцев назад

      It hasn’t had the attraction I was hoping for. Yes the deer are eating it but they are eating some of both. So far I haven’t noticed a major difference in the areas I have it side by side. The coons definitely noticed the difference and are really hammering my NutriCrave unfortunately.
      I’m really happy with the yield. Definitely produced a little better than my 100 day field corn. I’ll have a winter update in January sometime when the deer are really hitting the plots hard. Usually January-March is when the late season grain plots pay off the most.

    Your corn looks pretty nice--just need some more rain for sure. Looks like you decided to buy corn to plant this year? I actually did your corn plot planting with left over deer corn this year but the corn didn't come up very well. Guess the germ on it wasn't good or I don't have your planting skills?

    • @wisconsinwhitetail9744
      @wisconsinwhitetail9744  Год назад +2

      The last 2 yrs I haven’t planted any harvested corn seed. Like you said it never seems to come up the best and birds are more prone pull it out when it’s small because it’s not treated. But for some reason harvested soybeans work just fine.

      You can always spray the Nutri Crave with a dicamba like Sterling Blue or Clash or number of different generics…letting that waterhemp go to seed will continue to be a problem, even if you are getting 90% of it with the cultivation! Enjoyed the video man, good luck this fall!
