As far as securing the window, I chose to use a iength of stout dowel rod cut to
between the top of the window and the upper window frame. Use two if you're
REALLY paranoid. A determined thief
will likely break the glass anyway. That's
when the castle doctrine comes in!
Thanks and 73,
William Barrett/WW5MB
Bonus points for checking continuity. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching, Jim. Just got one for the Padawans shack, if maintenance can figure a way to lock the window to their satisfaction.
Screws in the window frame would do the trick. Best of luck on that.
@@jbgreer Not an option in the classroom. It's a wall of windows. We will figure something out.
K5ATA I am K6KTK IN SHASTA LAKE , CA. I got my license in1950. Talked to mir, space station and bounced my signial off the moon. Now because of restrictions not on the air. Thanks for MFJs equipment information.
Dangit... how did I miss this live... watching the replay now!!♡♡♡
🤜🏻👍🤛🏻
Thanks for watching, Aname!
Problem with them is once you open the lower pane it open the mid seals and air will pour in between the upper and lower windows you need to get weather stripping and put it between the uppers bottom seal by folding the lower open for cleaning then add in the stripping where the seal sits with the pass through in-place.
I literally just finished installing one of these and was wondering about that. Thanks for the tip.
Did as you suggested and it worked like a charm. I attached the weather stripping to the inside bottom of the upper pane. I used 1/2 inch X 1/2 inch weather stripping from amazon. Incidentally, the weather stripping I purchased is far superior to that supplied by MFJ. The foam is much more dense and the adhesive backing peels off easier. I would suggest ditching the MFJ supplied weather stripping and buy some better quality stuff.
@@douglaswilliams6834 welcome Douglas. I hope your using the balance fed part of the pass through 😉 I don’t use coax as it’s to lossy. I built the famous Toad Harbor Feed line. Simple easy construction and it will delivery 98% of my signal from rig to the antenna. Glad my Tip helped out ☺️
@@kevinkc3onohelijeepworld953 Kevin, I made hundreds of contacts using a ladder line fed "zepp" back in '80s and '90s. Just get an inverted V up as high as you can, feed it with balanced/ladder line, and use a manual antenna tuner. I'm just getting back into amateur radio again after a long hiatus, and my soon to be installed antenna is going to be a Hustler 5BTV vertical, so coax is necessary. Working on my rusty CW skillz. 73 de WB4DW
@@douglaswilliams6834 any chance you can fit a 160m dipole or a full wave loop at 40’ high ?? Yes those verticals work but the extensive ground system is insane. And to be brutally honest I prefer both elements of my ant in the air
I like the coffee cup in the logo.
Thanks, my daughter did that for me. She’s kinda awesome like that
Did you use the weather strips on the sides as well as top/bottom?
Does anyone know if the ground grounds out the Coax Shield? Wondering if I still need to but something to do that
Thanks for the informative video. I guess you can't lock the window once the panel is installed?
No. I had a dowel in the window to lock it. Thanks for watching
Can you remove the metal portion of the pass through from that cheap board and mount it into a nicer manufactured board? MFJ could had definitely done much better than a cheap piece of wood to mount this in.
Ingenious!!
Yeah, it makes it much easier to get line into the shack! Thanks for watching!
73, hope you're doing well sir
I am! Hope you are as well!
Do they make one for a crank out style window?
I don't think so. Thanks for watching!
nope
you could get a panel that mounts in the eve of your overhang of your roof. and run cable thru attic down wall or thru ceiling
Been looking at that for a while
I love it. I wish I had gotten one years ago. Thanks for watching!
F type connector. Its written on the panel
What about the window gap up top?
