I am not surprised. This Airlines is a joke. Travelled recently from London Heathrow to Vancouver via Calgary. Flight delayed at first, got cancelled later. Travelled on the next day only to deal with the rudest and oldest flight crew I have ever seen in my last 15 years of travelling life. They should stick to domestic so that at least international travelers don't have to deal with this.
Corporate greed has no limits. Using the government to force workers back to work is insane, bullying, and abusive. Good for the mechanics to stick together and fight for their rights. Pay them what they're asking for and give them the respect they deserve. After all, planes flying safely is no joke.

Never cared for WestJet. I liked the old airlines, pacific western, wardair CP Air. Now it's so expensive to fly at all. 65 dollar airfare from Edmonton Centre Airport to Calgary 34 minutes. Via Pacific western. Skybus I think they called it. Went to Hawaii for a vacation with my parents in Regina and drove to Edmonton international and the flight was on pwa. We were served meals and snacks, including beverages. You're lucky to get peanuts on a flight nowadays. Got to see the flight deck, controls and a quick chat with the pilots. February of 1977 ✈️ Flight attendants were very helpful and polite. A magical experience. A civil time, not at all like today. Now flying is a big farce. Several hours early to get to airport and then several hours of security screening, baggage check-ins and waiting to board the flight. Passports in hand and whatnot. A stressful experience now.
As your travel plans are disrupted think about this. The federal liberal labour minister imposed binding arbitration to "avert" this strike. The union looked at the minister's document and said yeah, this is a joke and they went on strike. The federal liberal government (again) has failed to write good policy and look who suffers. Over and over this liberal government has failed when dealing with the Canadian airline industry and the Canadian citizens have suffered as a result. Remember that when it comes time to go to the polls.
Let's think for a moment about AMEs (Aircraft Maintenance Engineers) and the responsibilities they carry. They are worth alot more than what they are being compensated for. They are highly trained and responsible for your lives, as well as working in conditions that most can't even imagine. I support the AMEs at Westjet 100%. I have gained a new level of respect for my fellow AMEs sticking together. I can only pray to God, that when the next level of tyranny regarding Covid vaccinations or some similar fear mongering comes down the pipe, the AMEs all across Canada will unite and will not comply.
Dodged a bullet. I flew WestJet a week ago and heard there was potential of a strike. Very cozy economy seats for a 6'1 beast like myself and smooth flight to Halifax. Whoever is responsible for that, pay them more!
I wonder if in this case, you can sue the union as well as the airline. There is a knock on effect to what has been an off again on again story. It cannot be good for the passengers as well as any tourism-related businesses at any destinations that WestJet goes to.
If you all don't know who ever work at airline industry we just want to get what we suppose to pay some airline paying 17 dollars per hours and also passenger are also not behavior and treat us like garbage we are the one should allow have more money and more pay especially now everything so expensive I support them go on strike
22% increase in pay over 4 years and they reject it and decide upending customer’s travel plans and ruin their Canada Day holidays is more fun. Who’s the greedy one here?
Not at all 😂 WestJet attempted to use government intervention to impose a contract on the mechanics. Despite negotiating in good faith, the mechanics realized that WestJet's move signaled an end to negotiations without mutual agreement. Consequently, they exercised their right to strike. WestJet is obviously pressuring the union to accept their rejected offer under the threat of government intervention, which is blatantly dystopian and tyrannical. Sorry but the government can’t force people to sign contracts in a free society. It's clear that WestJet anticipated smooth brain people like yourself to blame the union, despite WestJet obviously being the ones causing disruption for themselves and their passengers.
My wife works for WestJet. They were offered a deal that would have made them the highest paid in Canada but rejected it. Don’t comment unless you know the facts. I am tired of these crying unions demanding crazy things when the rest of us are stuck making less and less every year.
Since you know all the facts why aren’t you mentioning the reduction in benefits, company matched pension and the issues of mechanics working over 16 hours then being expected to sleep on a plane before the next shift? All things that would bring their compensation below industry average. You and your wife are fine with WestJet attempting to force the mechanics into a contract? Which is contrary to every principle of freedom so you are pathetic. I’m tired of people like you complaining about things and pretending they know better when in reality you clearly have issues with basic coherent thinking
Exactly!!!! Airplane mechanics are fake. Airplanes are actually held together by thoughts and prayers!!!! Ever see a car or truck at the airport? Of course not!!! They don’t use any other support vehicles. Refuelling trucks are actually angels in disguise.

So sorry you’re strained in Edmonton! I hope you survive the boredom of this place.

All airlines should triple ticket prices and give all spare revenue and profits to the mechanics. Is that what your looking for?
