After watching your video I tried this method on a feral hog I recently shot and it worked. The tape measured a 40" circumference and 38" length. That calculates to 152 pounds. Actual weight was 151 pounds. Amazingly accurate even on feral pigs. Since feral pigs have very little body fat I thought the method might not work but muscle density may make up for lack of fat. Thanks.
We did the tape measure for our pig. I came up with 290 roughly and he dressed out at 220. The butcher doesn't give live weight. Our pig was a Berkshire cross. I have done some calcs and he is costly with everything about $2.10 per pound. I am pretty happy about it. I can't weight to get the meat back.
That is awesome. We got our meat back a few weeks ago. And it is so good. I cant wait for you to get yours and start eating it! I just finished up rendering some of the lard. Are you going to do that. That is an awesome price per pound!
Lumnah Acres no we are not planning on rendering out the lard. I was shooting for a hanging weight of 260 so I fell short. I know it will be good cause I sold one to someone for a pig roast this summer and he said it was good tasting.
On my show hogs this calculation was always 40-50lbs off. I think this method was off on show pigs because of the amount of muscle mass show pigs have on the front and rear and they are lean in the middle. They always weighed heavier than the calculation said.
Tried this method just to see were i was to schedule my butcher date. Came back with a weight of 125 about with 55 days till pick up pretty confident they will weigh out if not sending 4 in so might save a few bucks on the butcher fee lol. Thanks for sharing this was wondering how to do this like others heard about this never seen it in action.
I tried it on Lumnah Acres home page on youtube and it worked for me. Where did you try clicking on it? Thank you for letting me know, I want to make sure it is working

thank you
+Lumnah Acres YW👍
I have friends who use a similar method to weigh fish if they don't have a scale.
when we had pigs we did with tape and it was pretty darn close..
It is amazing how how close it is.
+Lumnah Acres 👍
if a pig games 2 lb a day and you measured them two days prior that would be 4 lb per Pig +
