I had to restyle this doll's hair too, but I mostly just styled it to look more like the 1977 original. It's a lovely repro doll, and her hair is nicely rooted. I'm just glad it wasn't too thick or too thin or the wrong fiber.

I do crafts and styles for Barbie. Quick tip: If you fold a strip of aluminum foil around a strip of wet hair and roll it up around a dowel stick, take the stick out and let it dry 24 hours, the foil roll will hold itself (no pins) and it’ll release nicely and you’ll have a set of very tight neat curls. No heat needed.

I also got this Christie because I wanted her body replacement for a superstar doll in my collection and the head went onto a Made to Move body as I also have the Superstar ‘Toy Story’ Barbie also on an MTM body so thought she needed a friend. Thanks for the inspiration because I also wasn’t a fan of the repro hairstyle so will curl her hair too.
For a tighter curl I’d set it the doll in the boiling water until the water is no longer boiling hot, then dunk it under the cold tap to set and then let it air dry for a day or so as this will give you the look you’re going for. ✌🏼

So I opened and played with it… and put everything back in the box for her to open, used, on Christmas morning. Sigh. The good times. How many releases gave there been with the Barbie head? You can do exactly what you are doing with the boiling water, but use your steamer! It’s more controlled and not as messy!
