Happy New Year everyone! We're kicking things off by taking a look at these brand new 'Beyond Bankai' forms from Brave Souls, featuring the bloodthirsty Kenpachi duo! Let me know which of these two is your favourite!
A warrior who loves combat so much that he became a living weapon, and a warrior who craves battle so much that she wants it to last as long as possible. They really went with the poetry and understood the characters combat methods. Kenpachis make more sense thematically though.
Kenpachi doesn't use his bankai, his bankai uses him. That is the genius of this design, because it shows kenpachi becoming in essense yachirus weapon, like when he first went bankai. We see this theme throughout the story too, of yachiru guiding kenpachi when he gets lost, or having him play to her whims. My theory is that nozarashis bankai firms ability is to enhance the users strength, and command them so that they do not tear themselves apart in the process.
In theory Beyond Bankai could potentially be a version of the captains that is similar to Dangai Ichigo during the Aizen fight. They look more fused to their zanpaktous like how ichigo had zangetsu's chain wrapped around his arm.
yea they dropped the ball on his design but again they don't have the license to TYBW content so they can't borrow ideas from that edit: nevermind i completely forgot about the connection to Yachirus shikai
Comparatively Tommo, consider how Kenpachi is personality wise and this makes sense for his B.B. form. 1. He is head strong to the point of self conflict, he's been fighting with his Zanpakuto from the very start of the series. So he's given a chimeric design to showcase he's not fully worked to hone his rapport with his sword. 2. Also he does have lumpy's fur on him as well as skully's, the base of his arm has the pale yellow fluff, and over it is the remains of skully, which makes it looks like he slaughtered and is wearing them both, much like with Unohana. 3. Notice the blending of how the B.B. is formed, both of them are lending him a hand, which was the first notion made from Yachiru to Kenpachi when meeting him. Something he never bothered to do outside of his own moral to not finish off someone who didn't have the reserves to continue a fight. That coupling with HIS OWN BODY not handling the power of his Bankai is more of a nod to Yachiru trying to assist him rather than outright give him more power than he already had on his own.
To be fair, the implications of his beyond bankai are absolutely terrifying if you think about it. It's a power BEYOND bankai, which implies that it's much stronger than Kenpachi's actual bankai. And he actually looks like he's in perfect control instead of some berserker state, which is cool and scary
I hope it isn't but it would be kinda hilarious if Gin's was like my blade can extend even further now!! Cause that's what his shikai and bankai do lol
I always imagined Soifon's "beyond Bankai" or zanpakuto fusion or whatever as effectively rocket boosters on her body and limbs that augment her hakuda skills. Heck, she could even have reishi wings that somewhat resemble the Nigeki Kessatsu mark. While what Scarchain said would be funny, I'm more so thinking of Gin getting _more_ magic extendy blades rather than making his existing one extend even further. Like, imagine him having floating blades ala Nu-13 that he can manipulate and extend at will. Maybe include the "kill" ability of his Bankai in the special attack too. Seeing how Shinji's was, Tosen's will probably include his Hollow powers as well as the abilities of his zanpakuto. It'd really show how he _could've_ been if he didn't dismiss the powers of his Bankai the moment he attained a Resurreccion.
Does anyone else find it hilarious that ikkaku was third seat below yachiru?? Like imagine if byakuya was like nah sorry renji, senbon zakura is second seat. U gotta be third bro. LMFAO
If they had made Kenpachi red with his bankai in his mouth and the fur still yellow but sort of as a skirt kind of thing, I think that would be perfect. Would still have the 3 blades for the attack and would showcase his bankai.
Personally with kenny I think a great way to do it could be to have him have the sanpo Kenjuu arms and one of the blades with the other being nozarashi as well as his skin being red to show all his powers coming together

Happy New year. I just got back into bleach. I was disillusioned it was a shitty anime because of the power creep in TYBW but you changed my mind and i have been rewatching and rereading Bleach. You gave me back my love for the series. thank you for this gift.
I know these are non-canonical, but if we were to pretend they were canonical for a moment, I can imagine that Kenpachi's bankai shown in the manga would be just Lumpy's sword since Yachiru said that he couldn't handle the full power. And once he's able to handle the full power, he can use Boney's sword too. And stay in control of it as well. Though I agree with some other comments that he would look cooler if he kept his red skin and horns. It would be reminiscent of Ichigo's bankai being split between his hollow and quincy powers.

I see Zarakis form as the more complete version of his bankai, kind of how Yamamotos bankai is said to to completely different than it was when he originally fought Yhwach, this is a form of Kenny that learned to fully weird his bankai power, changing its form and allowing him to stay conscious and not a feral beast, thats at least how I see it

Im absolutely Loving the new Dangai designs we are getting from this so far, these are Dangai forms because its beyond Bankai, and we already know thanks to Ichigo V Aizen, that after Bankai is Dangai, the merging of Zanpakuto and Soul Reaper to an extreme degree.
Here's my theory: Retsu's zanpakuto works similarly Byakuya's zanpakuto, having 3 forms with 1 key difference. Both of their zanpakuto spirits takes the form of clothes instead of a fleshy being, senbonzakuro takes the form of japanese armor and minazuki takes the form of robes with a hood. Senbonzakura has 3 release states that becomes part of the user which each release state and the final form looks like a wearable armor shown in bbs 5th anniversary (most likely Shūkei: Hakuteiken complete form). Minazuki also has 3 release states but the difference is that instead of becoming extrenal armor, with each release state minazuki integrates itself into the user like a parasite and in exchange for integrating within the user it allows the user to make better use it's capabilities (similarly to venom from spiderman or migi from parasyte -the maxim-). When it fully integrates within the user it's consciousness is gone and all of it's base characteristics become the users

The thing I love the most about these two was how when they released, my friend wanted the Unohana and I wanted the Kenpachi, but we ended up summoning the opposite ones and as a result, we were both salty and jealous of each other for a while.
I’m kinda curious. What does Kenpachi’s Bankai spirit look. Kubo did say it takes the appearance of a older woman. I like to imagine that it looks like Yachiru older, but she also slightly has Unohana’s hairstyle. Like how Zangetsu looked different when Ichigo went into his inner world in Bankai.
I really do like the idea of incorporating Yachiru's Zanpakuto with Kenpachi but I do agree, I don't think the design flows very well especially the colours and would've preferred a more demonic form dialled up to 11 instead. Unohana's one is decent I like it

Totally agree with all of this, especially to Unohanas, to Zaraki it would've been way better if they kept the design that we got BUT also gives him a some sort of growing red skin under those gauntlets of both of his arms of sort until it later covers his whole body, signifying he grows stronger the longer he's in battle!!
I would like to ask you if you could make a video : "top 10" or ranking the original characters from Bleach Brave Souls, I think that would make interesting content. I like the way you make your videos, the way you analyze the characters and you have your opinion and present your arguments, and your narration too, you could analyze the characters by not what they do in the game itself but what they would be able to do if they were canonical characters from the manga/anime, for example Spirit Society Shinji would be a very powerful character with his climate control, or fifth anniv Ichigo or sixth anniv Aizen or SAFWY novel Shinji
There’s a lot behind Unohana that we clearly don’t know. We know that she is ruthless, sadistic, and has an insatiable appetite for blood. The real Unohana is unlike anyones perception of her, and that’s what makes her character great. We don’t know when she will make her debut in the new manga, but we know for certain that she is in Hell and enjoying every minute of it. A true Soul Reaper, she’s the manifestation of death itself, and she’s still hungry.
Do you think a video on the 5 war threats would be a good video(especially now the anime is coming this year)? Not only who they are but why they got the distinction from the other Shinigami and how far above the others they are in the eyes of Ywach. Maybe also add in who else you think could be a war potential? Like top 8 or top 10
Zaraki's B.B. makes me wonder if his Zanpakuto is capable of more as he gets more used to it, possibly gaining Sanpo Kenju as a technique in the future

I’ve always thought that the hybrid of the murderous intent and healing that I think her zanpakto absorbs the blood of her victims which later can be used as either a weapon in her bankai or used for healing in her manta form
Unohana is my favorite, so finding out there would be a new version of her was awesome. I always love those glares she gives to people to get her point across. I just hope I can scrape enough orbs together to have a few chances to try and summon her card.
could not agree more on Kenny I think they were too smart for their own good. an evolved oni version of Kenny would have been otherworldy. especially with restu being a combo of both but still having reason it makes all the more sense to have Kenny go full demon and wreak shop.
Mrtommo i think you should make a video about SEALING... Like how they hold the sealed immortal prisoners like azien in the muken (i wonder who else? there's the other kenpachi but is he sealed?) This is how Ikomikidomoe was beat as well. . I almost guarantee thats how gerrad would have been dealt with, But people don't even think of it when it comes to defeating him... You just kill him and as he regens at his weakest you seal him . ...thats how azien and ikomikidomoe were stopped, if aizen, him and the soul king/rei-o could be sealed, He could be to..... ..im sure there's other immortal sealed beings in the muken. Those parts of bleach are so mysterious
I agree with his takes about Zaraki. I wanted a legit demon but his beyond bankai form makes sense. But I would've preferred if his skin color was red and if he had horns too.
One very cool concept i like to think is that actually zaraki represents the the third demon/beast instead of yachiru, remember her power which is called something like the steps of the three beasts, well i think yachiru got a lot of influence of unohana to the poomt she even inherited some of her human traits, as their personaloties are very alike, almost like a spirit daughter of both zaraki and unohana, so if she is a more of a living human thing, who is the third demon of her power? Its zaraki himself, thats what a like to think, its almost like both zaraki and his zanpakutou use each other instead of the normal concept of the zanpakutou being the tool of the shinigami, zaraki is not the guy who would ever mind his zanpakutou using their power for whatever it wants, he is a simple guy, as longs as someone does not bother his fights, hes cool with whatever, so as much as zaraki did not gave two shits about his zanpakutou je also gave a kind of a permission for it to do whatever it wanted, and all of that mixed in nozarashi to make his power what it really is, so its fine to say that yachiru actually uses zaraki much like zaraki uses her, they ise each other, remember she was the on who invoked the bankai on him, not zaraki himself, he is her third beast, too his power is not one but three beasts, his power is also divided in 3 beings, and yachiru power is called three beasts steps, thats a lot of 3's to not have any connection, so zaraki bankai is just basically him assuming his own beast form, but in my vision thats only 1/3 of his full power, as theres others 2 beasts on that zanpakutou, so this beyond bankai is just zaraki mantling the other two beasts to fight instead of becoming the third himself, which would make him use 2/3 of his full power, i think this is not even his final form(DB reference lol) i think his ultimate design form would be both his bankai and beyong bankai form merged, just adding the demonic red zaraki on this new design instead of normal zaraki, in this form he would use the whole 3/3 power of his but it would be his most dangerous form, a treat for both him and his allies as he would be berserker plus his other 2/3 power added, well unless the other two beasts helps him from tearing and crushing his own body with too much power, and that woudl be very OP but amazing.
I have a theory on Unohana’s bankai; that it is all the blood, pain and damage she has restored in minazuki’s stomach unleashed as an attack. I like to think it somewhat represents her outward healing nature being literally torn open to reveal a bloodthirsty, blooded interior.
I understand how you feel even if you're being nice about it. Kenpachi's beyond banking seems divorced from the Shikai and Bankai that we have SEEN him use and they basically went straight Yachiru's ability. It's confusing. Unohana was well done.
What they could’ve done but it might sound over designed was stil given hime the red skin and fangs and the Maui’s hair even longer to end in a blade reminiscent of his proper bankai and he can swing and attack with it as well giving him more symmetry with unohana as well as giving a more composite version of all his power sources and roots
The extra arms thing is interesting. Kinda reminds me of asura from Asuras wrath where he had the extra arms and the kind of berserker look that Kenpachi had
I think the core thing of Sanpo Kenju is that it isn't just three blades slashing at one time, they are the embodiment of cutting something that couldn't or shouldn't be able to be cut by a single blade, but the target will indeed be cut by one of the other blades that the enemy doesn't normally see. I think had Sanpo Kenju had been used a bit more than a single time we would have seen that Yachiru would have been able to cut everything before her just like Nozarashi apparently can. But since the Beyond Bankai all really do seem like they are "Final" (I.E. Final Getsuga Tensho full fusions) it does make sense that his final form would look more like what his Zanpakuto spirit actually looks like which to me would be those two oni like beings we see from Sanpo Kenju merged together on an adult Yachiru. Would be interesting for Kubo to actually draw what the spirit looks like so we finally have an idea of what it really looks like.
Zaraki beyond bankai couldve easily use sanpo kenju as the base to really express both the oni and gashadokuro motif zaraki has; really bring forth a skeletal oni who hungers for violence, battle and blood
Don't forget that kenpachi loved yuchiru honestly I always considered his daughter then his vice or zanpaktou spirit so this makes me feel like parent and child working together
As others have mentioned I feel like beyond bankai is more of a mutual fusion between wielder and zanpakto. The manga shows that you are the zanpakto and the zanpakto is you, however I look at these as if it were two souls merging into one. Kenpachi is the easiest to see this with, as his bankai in manga is more of his own manifestation i.e an actual demon of combat vs beyond where in my mind yachiru more forwardly shows Ken she is his sword and thus he is more influenced and gets the form we see here. With how many different bankai Ichigo gets, it’s not hard to believe that depending on what’s going on at the time will change how your zanpakto manifests.
We all know , that if Kubo will indeed give us the Hell arc fully , you bet that something similar to those will be in the arc . The next logical big power up would be something similar to a dangai form .
Is it just me or at least in the full art of Unohana's on her left side (from her perspective) does it look like there are eyes under the red sleeve looking thing? Kinda makes it look like black zetsu did at the end of naruto when it was in Kaguya's sleeve. Also if they would have had the fur on Kenpachi's arm be red instead of that blackish color and his face have the cracks in it like his bankai does it might have tied in better imo
I like that they did this to Kenpachi. Seems like an homage to duality and balance: The whole yin yang, black / white theme. Perhaps he will still be able to rage out later, by forfeiting such balance and going full on berserker. This form just seems like it is acting as a greater limiter: the new eye patch so to speak.
It would've been cool if kenpachi's beyond design had him in head to toe spikey bone armor (both to reference boney AND when kenpachi and Unohana fought as enormous skeletons) with a big yellow fur pelt draped around his neck (to reference lumpy or alternatively a burning mane of yellow reiatsu to reference the iconic manifestation of his power in his first fight with Ichigo in the anime) instead of just representing them on each arm, I feel like it would've come together better. (In a perfect world though, I would've liked to see KING OF HELL ZARAKI)
Kenpachi's beyond Bankai made me think of how Yachiro's ability to cut (what the sword didn't actually hit) connects with Kenpachi's ability to cut (pierce) even things the sword cant physically manage without his power to back it up.

You didn't mention the fact that Kenpachi is the 5th dual wielder in Bleach, after Kyoraku, Ukitake, Hisagi, and Ichigo

I think Zaraki skin should still be red with forehead horns in his Beyond BANKAI form. That would have been perfect.

We never saw his complete bankai. The red oni form is a incomplete version.

I got the All Colour but the Black artbook for christmas. Also, these are my favorite beyond Bankai designs so far.
The thing I love the most about these two was how when they released, my friend wanted the Unohana and I wanted the Kenpachi, but we ended up summoning the opposite ones and as a result, we were both salty and jealous of each other for a while.
I’m kinda curious. What does Kenpachi’s Bankai spirit look. Kubo did say it takes the appearance of a older woman. I like to imagine that it looks like Yachiru older, but she also slightly has Unohana’s hairstyle. Like how Zangetsu looked different when Ichigo went into his inner world in Bankai.
I really do like the idea of incorporating Yachiru's Zanpakuto with Kenpachi but I do agree, I don't think the design flows very well especially the colours and would've preferred a more demonic form dialled up to 11 instead. Unohana's one is decent I like it
My favorite is Zaraki Kenpachi. And not just because I got him on my free 10x summon. Also love the design choice of 2 weapons

Totally agree with all of this, especially to Unohanas, to Zaraki it would've been way better if they kept the design that we got BUT also gives him a some sort of growing red skin under those gauntlets of both of his arms of sort until it later covers his whole body, signifying he grows stronger the longer he's in battle!!
I would like to ask you if you could make a video : "top 10" or ranking the original characters from Bleach Brave Souls, I think that would make interesting content. I like the way you make your videos, the way you analyze the characters and you have your opinion and present your arguments, and your narration too, you could analyze the characters by not what they do in the game itself but what they would be able to do if they were canonical characters from the manga/anime, for example Spirit Society Shinji would be a very powerful character with his climate control, or fifth anniv Ichigo or sixth anniv Aizen or SAFWY novel Shinji
There’s a lot behind Unohana that we clearly don’t know. We know that she is ruthless, sadistic, and has an insatiable appetite for blood. The real Unohana is unlike anyones perception of her, and that’s what makes her character great. We don’t know when she will make her debut in the new manga, but we know for certain that she is in Hell and enjoying every minute of it. A true Soul Reaper, she’s the manifestation of death itself, and she’s still hungry.

Zaraki's B.B. makes me wonder if his Zanpakuto is capable of more as he gets more used to it, possibly gaining Sanpo Kenju as a technique in the future

Zaraki doesn't need any "beyond". His bankai is already beyond everything and his design is perfect, nothing more can be done for him ( my opinion ).

I’ve always thought that the hybrid of the murderous intent and healing that I think her zanpakto absorbs the blood of her victims which later can be used as either a weapon in her bankai or used for healing in her manta form
Unohana is my favorite, so finding out there would be a new version of her was awesome. I always love those glares she gives to people to get her point across.
I just hope I can scrape enough orbs together to have a few chances to try and summon her card.
I spent 10,000 orbs. Worth it! Hopefully there won't be another Unohana Yachiru card for a while. It took me a long time to grind that many orbs. Lol
I think unohana bankai is the blood of the manta looking creature and that blood is acid like the saliva of the creature but this acid is lethal

could not agree more on Kenny I think they were too smart for their own good. an evolved oni version of Kenny would have been otherworldy. especially with restu being a combo of both but still having reason it makes all the more sense to have Kenny go full demon and wreak shop.

Mrtommo i think you should make a video about SEALING... Like how they hold the sealed immortal prisoners like azien in the muken (i wonder who else? there's the other kenpachi but is he sealed?) This is how Ikomikidomoe was beat as well. . I almost guarantee thats how gerrad would have been dealt with, But people don't even think of it when it comes to defeating him... You just kill him and as he regens at his weakest you seal him . ...thats how azien and ikomikidomoe were stopped, if aizen, him and the soul king/rei-o could be sealed, He could be to..... ..im sure there's other immortal sealed beings in the muken. Those parts of bleach are so mysterious

I agree with his takes about Zaraki. I wanted a legit demon but his beyond bankai form makes sense. But I would've preferred if his skin color was red and if he had horns too.
One very cool concept i like to think is that actually zaraki represents the the third demon/beast instead of yachiru, remember her power which is called something like the steps of the three beasts, well i think yachiru got a lot of influence of unohana to the poomt she even inherited some of her human traits, as their personaloties are very alike, almost like a spirit daughter of both zaraki and unohana, so if she is a more of a living human thing, who is the third demon of her power? Its zaraki himself, thats what a like to think, its almost like both zaraki and his zanpakutou use each other instead of the normal concept of the zanpakutou being the tool of the shinigami, zaraki is not the guy who would ever mind his zanpakutou using their power for whatever it wants, he is a simple guy, as longs as someone does not bother his fights, hes cool with whatever, so as much as zaraki did not gave two shits about his zanpakutou je also gave a kind of a permission for it to do whatever it wanted, and all of that mixed in nozarashi to make his power what it really is, so its fine to say that yachiru actually uses zaraki much like zaraki uses her, they ise each other, remember she was the on who invoked the bankai on him, not zaraki himself, he is her third beast, too his power is not one but three beasts, his power is also divided in 3 beings, and yachiru power is called three beasts steps, thats a lot of 3's to not have any connection, so zaraki bankai is just basically him assuming his own beast form, but in my vision thats only 1/3 of his full power, as theres others 2 beasts on that zanpakutou, so this beyond bankai is just zaraki mantling the other two beasts to fight instead of becoming the third himself, which would make him use 2/3 of his full power, i think this is not even his final form(DB reference lol) i think his ultimate design form would be both his bankai and beyong bankai form merged, just adding the demonic red zaraki on this new design instead of normal zaraki, in this form he would use the whole 3/3 power of his but it would be his most dangerous form, a treat for both him and his allies as he would be berserker plus his other 2/3 power added, well unless the other two beasts helps him from tearing and crushing his own body with too much power, and that woudl be very OP but amazing.

Just delivering this lil' tidbit of trivia here. Blood Manipulation has a name, Hematokinesis.
I have a theory on Unohana’s bankai; that it is all the blood, pain and damage she has restored in minazuki’s stomach unleashed as an attack. I like to think it somewhat represents her outward healing nature being literally torn open to reveal a bloodthirsty, blooded interior.

Kenpachi's beyond banking seems divorced from the Shikai and Bankai that we have SEEN him use and they basically went straight Yachiru's ability. It's confusing.

What they could’ve done but it might sound over designed was stil given hime the red skin and fangs and the Maui’s hair even longer to end in a blade reminiscent of his proper bankai and he can swing and attack with it as well giving him more symmetry with unohana as well as giving a more composite version of all his power sources and roots
Or even give him 4 arms with the last two holding a giant axe which would give some nnoitra vibes
The extra arms thing is interesting. Kinda reminds me of asura from Asuras wrath where he had the extra arms and the kind of berserker look that Kenpachi had

I think the core thing of Sanpo Kenju is that it isn't just three blades slashing at one time, they are the embodiment of cutting something that couldn't or shouldn't be able to be cut by a single blade, but the target will indeed be cut by one of the other blades that the enemy doesn't normally see.
I think had Sanpo Kenju had been used a bit more than a single time we would have seen that Yachiru would have been able to cut everything before her just like Nozarashi apparently can. But since the Beyond Bankai all really do seem like they are "Final" (I.E. Final Getsuga Tensho full fusions) it does make sense that his final form would look more like what his Zanpakuto spirit actually looks like which to me would be those two oni like beings we see from Sanpo Kenju merged together on an adult Yachiru. Would be interesting for Kubo to actually draw what the spirit looks like so we finally have an idea of what it really looks like.
It came a few days after Christmas, but I got a Harribel statue as a Chrimbo present to myself. She's taken centre stage in my model collection, lol.

Zaraki beyond bankai couldve easily use sanpo kenju as the base to really express both the oni and gashadokuro motif zaraki has; really bring forth a skeletal oni who hungers for violence, battle and blood

As others have mentioned I feel like beyond bankai is more of a mutual fusion between wielder and zanpakto. The manga shows that you are the zanpakto and the zanpakto is you, however I look at these as if it were two souls merging into one. Kenpachi is the easiest to see this with, as his bankai in manga is more of his own manifestation i.e an actual demon of combat vs beyond where in my mind yachiru more forwardly shows Ken she is his sword and thus he is more influenced and gets the form we see here. With how many different bankai Ichigo gets, it’s not hard to believe that depending on what’s going on at the time will change how your zanpakto manifests.
Shes like kiara from fgo, only and big difference is that instead of being the lewdest around unohana is a battle loving maniac
i got a feeling that all of this beyond bankai gonna play a role as a major power up in the hell arc if its really happening
I hope they use her design in the anime when her and kenpachi fights for additional scenes to show more details of the fight before its conclusion

Is it just me or at least in the full art of Unohana's on her left side (from her perspective) does it look like there are eyes under the red sleeve looking thing? Kinda makes it look like black zetsu did at the end of naruto when it was in Kaguya's sleeve. Also if they would have had the fur on Kenpachi's arm be red instead of that blackish color and his face have the cracks in it like his bankai does it might have tied in better imo
I like that they did this to Kenpachi. Seems like an homage to duality and balance: The whole yin yang, black / white theme.
Perhaps he will still be able to rage out later, by forfeiting such balance and going full on berserker. This form just seems like it is acting as a greater limiter: the new eye patch so to speak.
It would've been cool if kenpachi's beyond design had him in head to toe spikey bone armor (both to reference boney AND when kenpachi and Unohana fought as enormous skeletons) with a big yellow fur pelt draped around his neck (to reference lumpy or alternatively a burning mane of yellow reiatsu to reference the iconic manifestation of his power in his first fight with Ichigo in the anime) instead of just representing them on each arm, I feel like it would've come together better.
(In a perfect world though, I would've liked to see KING OF HELL ZARAKI)

Kenpachi's beyond Bankai made me think of how Yachiro's ability to cut (what the sword didn't actually hit) connects with Kenpachi's ability to cut (pierce) even things the sword cant physically manage without his power to back it up.
I pulled Retsu on step 6, SO SO HAPPY I GOT HER!!!!! Shes fricking amazing
